I just want to say this is a great recommendation and I'm sorry I didn't think of it. Honestly I'd also check out his newer solo stuff too, he fell in love a bit too much with his own drumming and isn't as sample heavy (that's also part of sample laws being more stringent) but his production's still top notch. He's a decent rapper too, although his newer work has a bit too much old-man-yelling-at-clouds feel for me on some of the songs. Dude got really bitter for awhile (like a solid .9 Budden on the bitter rapper scale) and retired and wrote a book about his music experience while trying to get a "real" job (his book's pretty funny fwiw). But he liked music too much so started again. Although his last couple of projects have been him in a funk band and I haven't paid much attention to those.
