i lived in Israel when i was younger and have citizenship and whatnot and im horrified at the idea that my old friends from kibbutz could be among those shooting children, or cheering it on. i remember we had regular rocket drills where we all crowded into a reinforced bunker not far from the school, and thinking nothing* of it. 9/11 happened and the adults said, and this is the real translation of a real thing that was said, "now they'll know how it feels". i guess they were right--the america i returned to was as insane and bloodthirsty as israel apparently was, though i was too young to see any of it. ive wanted to go back but i dont know if i could now, knowing everything that happens, that had happened in the last 16 years. nowadays bibi and son literally defend hitler and post neo-nazi propaganda. indicted for corruption and he's probably more popular than ever. and the way they--we?-- treat Ethiopian Jews; what moral or spiritual legitimacy can we claim, when white supremacy is more important to the government than Judaism? literal nazis praise the state of Israel for how it's organized, how it acts--how is this not a wakeup call? *they were vastly preferable to school assemblies in america tbh pouring one out for the dream of a just Jewish homeland and a two state solution. im gonna drink more and go back to ironyposting.

If it helps you feel better the US is in all ways but name closer to the textual Israel than the modern state Israel. If the security council didn't have veto then the great powers wouldn't even be sitting at the table. The UN is a place for diplomacy between great powers, that's it. It's not supposed to solve the world's problems (since a lot of those problems are because of great power conflict), only the problems that everyone agrees are bad.

Is it me or does Israel call the shots instead of America now? It reminds me of a WWI book I read where the author stated that one of Germany's greatest mistakes was letting Austria take the reigns in foreign policy. No longer was Germany the rider and Austria the horse - the roles had switched under their noses.
