My exposure to Wildstorm has been through Planetary and The Authority so I know I'm missing a lot but it's neat to see how things go with players I'm unaware of.

That diner gave me Planetary vibes too.

Yeah, I haven't read a *ton* of old Wildstorm, mostly Planetary and Authority and a little Gen13 and pre-good WildCATS, so I'm pretty sure there's a lot of references I'm missing, but I also think Ellis is doing a solid job of not getting too continuity porn with it. I'm not sure how I feel about the art. It's spartan (no pun intended), but I'm not sure if it's intentional or not.

That's interesting because it seems pre-N52 continuity: their history and Oberon, the way Orion is portrayed as opposed to how he is in GL, all the New Gods on Apokolips, etc. I do like that it is Rebirth continuity though. Must take place in the future.

Oooh, what else was there? All I noticed was Science City Zero and the Four style governing of dividing up of the world and its tech, and the diner that looked very much like the one Elijah used to hang out in.

Having never read any Wildcats stuff except the great Stormwatch finalé/murderfest crossover, a lot of that side of things is kinda lost on me so I didn't realise that guy was Spartan. I am really enjoying seeing all the alternate versions of the characters though.

You've got them. I'd only add that the diner is an exact reproduction of the one where Jakita picked up Snow.

Also this character right now doesn't have a lot in common with the original John Colt other than being kherubim, unless he's more like the pre Spartan digitisation Colt. I didn't read Team One so I've no idea.

There's not too much known about original John Colt, he was depicted as a sort of man of action back in the day, like Doc Savage and such, didn't have much in the way of powers other than being 'peak human.' It looks like Ellis went the James Bond route, he's still a definite man of action but seems more suave. I believe he was higher caste, however, in the original stories. He had a romance with Zealot and sort of a rich life before his death and digitization.

WildCATS had a pretty good story, though I think it meandered a bit after Alan Moore settled the daemonite/kherubim thing in Homecoming, which was a great comic and Moore's work probably should have been the end of v1. It got more into the swing of things later on, V2 had a deconstruction, with the CAT broken apart and not really together as a team, Lord Emp gone and Spartan given AI freedom, 3.0 had reconstruction, with the team brought back together under new auspices as Spartan became Jack Marlowe, inheriting Lord Emp's businesses and deciding that saving the world was not a job for spandex. Some of it was echoed in modern Iron Man, basically Marlowe's interdimensional abilities allow him to get free energy, and he's dealing more with the business side of things as well as butting heads with the government when it looks like his 'forever batteries' are going to outcompete oil. There's some other stuff, with the remnants of the Coda (a militaristic Amazonian cult Zealot formed way back in the day) and Grifter attempting to train an apprentice. 1 was more spotty typical comic fare of the 90s, though Moore brought some depth to it. 2 and 3 were great, though.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.

Yeah but considering how drat high the odds are that the whole series is a dying dream/Scott Free actually escaping from death in the suicide attempt he made before #1 started that he only thinks didn't work, that doesn't mean very much.

Which is a damned shame and I'll be sorry to lose Jacob Free and manny Funky Flashman, but I really don't expect any of it to stick.

This is kind of an odd paring. Kind of the weakest offer of the bunch. But it could be good. Never been one for solo joker books.

Is that right? Do the comics treat the Wallys like separate people or separate people like the Time Travel X-men teens?

Their original plan was just to make Nu52 Wally black, but they walked that back when doing the "we're REALLY SORRY' apology tour so the original Wally somehow survived and Wally 2 is just a relative of his or something. So there are two Wally Wests who are different people.
