Is it possible for me to determine the date of manufacture based on the auction sheet? Last time I asked about a '93 JCD got back to me pretty quickly that it had been built in '92. It'd be great if i knew what to look for on '93 and '94 auction sheets.

Keep your eye out for the 1989-1996 hilux surfs. They changed up the body style to the same as the AU 4Runner, but in 1993 they fitted the 1KZ-TE motor, which makes the 2L-T seem like something that SHOULD be in a skid steer. If your deciding to just eat the chicken tax, Import an early 90's dual cab diesel hilux or a 70 series landcruiser ute!

Theft is an insane issue with these cars- you can break into them by looking at them the wrong way and cheap/easily interchanged parts makes them highly desirable stripped on the CL market. I protected mine with a Club, kill switch and quarter panel rust and even that wouldn't stop the odd crackhead from peering in the hatch or tugging at the door handles. They are also a bit too spartan in 2018 although I suppose that isn't a concern if you are cross shopping it with a kei car...

Right so, you know the Crown wagon? It most likely has a blown head gasket, and now that I think about it I'm pretty sure it's been blown the whole time I've had it. The symptoms are runs fine, will stutter and kick out a cloud of vapor with a sweet smell, then run fine again. It's intermittent. No oil in the coolant (no sheen or milk), no coolant in the oil (no milkshakes), so it's got to be a very specific break in the gasket somewhere that allows coolant to seep in. I think it's been blown the whole time too because I've smelled the sweetness before right when we first got it, but like a dummo went 'NO OTHER SYMPTOMS MUST BE WEIRD JAPAN HYUK'. It isn't driveable as it sits because the power will leave you when it stutters but it can move under its own power no problem. It doesn't overheat nor has it ever overheated on us, and we drove it quite a bit. The reason we parked it was because the power would surge and I thought, since I reconnected a broken wire for the fuel air mixture sensor, that now that the fuel was being regulated properly the fuel filter might be at fault. No, that was incorrect and it is probably the gasket. It has a new timing belt and water pump, brand new set of tires (BF Goodrich Advantage T/A) and is excellent shape otherwise, and I'm the second owner and have all the books and everything. 1JZ-GE straight six, new fuel filter (  ) I am unwilling to put any money, time or effort into it so I have to eat the loss. Do you guys have any thought as to what someone would pay for it?

If it is blown for sure, I'd at least start by trying to get your money back out of it and work your way down if it's not selling. Kaker the 1js and 2js are crazy easy to do a head gasket on, if u have the tools u should try and fix it. If u still don't want it my buddy might want it to do a sleeper build and would probably pay an ok amount.

Thanks guys. It's easy for me to go "MEH" and just kinda blow past the Crown because I'm doing well otherwise and it feels like this big thing that's in my way, even though it isn't and I'm not into it for a terrible amount. I'll check the plugs tomorrow. I do think I am losing coolant but it's hard to tell because about two weeks after I did the timing belt it started acting up so it's been parked. Since you gotta pop off that radiator when doing the belts it was drained. It hasn't been driven since. Tomorrow I'll make sure the coolant tank is filled, let it idle for a while, then see where the coolant level is after it cools overnight. Applebees Appetizer posted:Most likely? Not Crown related but something we can see in real-time! This AZ-1 sold 6920 bucks at auction. Guess what I just found?  If we use my assumed-costs and apply the $3000 tax for making it legal in the USA (it will not cost them that much but lets keep the number anyway) then they should be into this for $10000. They are based in Tampa too so I know they are going to Jacksonville. Wonder what they are going to charge. Weirdly I found this AZ-1 at Montu by trying to look up Supra-specialty shops in the area Also I just received confirmation that I will be receiving the AZ-1, Pajero and Jimny all at the same time. Those brake pads that someone told me (not naming names  ) absolutely do NOT fit the Prado. Nothing from the kit does because it's looking for a slightly larger caliper for everything to fit. The hardware kit, however, did. The pads were in good shape anyway but I was after the hardware more than anything. The separate hardware kit I ordered had what I needed, went ahead and installed it. Flushed the brake fluid and now the Prado is totally 100% ready for sale. The Prado is also really good, I'd argue it's better in every way than the real J70 besides styling. It's quicker, smoother, more comfortable and lighter. Drove it around the city for an hour and no issues at all. I don't have an outback to bomb down though so YMMV.
