Is there a mod yet to make the game not a dull boring grey chore

I'm not actually trolling when I say that. I keep wanting to get into modded skyrim because there's so many good mods out there, but the core game is so poo poo. Terrible combat in a hollow world filled with empty npcs and storylines. Whenever I think I'm gonna play a sweet unique gameplay style of a character I remember that I have to do it in a world filled to the brim with falmer in ugly dwemer ruins, draugr caves with backdoor enterences, and bandit forts. I swing my pool noodle sword enough and they fall down. I put my hand up to shoot incredibly weak and underwhelming spells until they're dead (while walking in sludge). Then I go back to Grungnir rear end-bearer and get my 200 gold for clearing out that cave (thieves guild quest, of course). Maybe for a shakeup I can help I can help that clothing store get more customers by clearing out that cave full of bandits for 200 gold. Or go to the Bard's College for a more roleplay friendly questline of clearing out that cave for 200 gp.

Average Bear posted:Is there a mod yet to make the game not a dull boring grey chore I have this problem with flatrim and in VR its a bit better because just wandering around is fun enough. The archery is fun and the melee is okayish. I use immersive armor and immersive weapons to mix up the variety and thinking about seeing if that organized bandits mod works at all, I’d like to do bounty hunting.

I don't have VR. Sounds like it could be a fun gimmick for a while. When I played Heavily Modded Morrowing, the best game on earth, I could rise to the top of the great houses, build a giant mushroom tower (filled with more good writing, npcs, and quests than literally all of skyrim), turn undead and amass an army of vampires (dark fargoth ftw), leap over mountains, explore an entirely new and lovingly created landmass and run a slave plantation. All with Morrowinds amazing vanilla world and quests to dip into in between. I would just go back to it but I was curious if Skyrim modders had advanced past making 16k texture armor sets and immersive pedophilia mods first. Like I still have never made it to the Dragonborn expansion, which seems interesting, because I cannot drag myself through the game long enough to make it there. Its wild to me that people can actually play multiple 100% run characters in this game.

After Witcher 3, Skyrim/Fallout 4 just seemed so shallow. ![]() That said, I feel like the combat overhaul mods do help Skyrim to an extent. I've only been running Deadly Combat, not a combination, because as with all things Skyrim mod-like, it's so annoying/tricky to tweak until it feels right. But ultimately, BGS are story/setpiece builders, not game builders. The goal is about exploring this big fancy world more than combat. If you don't like that world enough (or use some immersion/ENB mods to make it more to your liking), no amount of gameplay adjustment is going to fix that.

I don't think there's much you can do to make melee combat decent in Skyrim (unless someone has a mod I don't know about they'd like to share) but there definitely seems to be a wealth of options for mages to spice up their gameplay. It's not all high-red textures and hardcore porn. Just mostly. There's a lot of great stuff out there, some can add questlines blow the Vanilla quests out of the water.

Average Bear posted:Is there a mod yet to make the game not a dull boring grey chore OBIS adds a good variety and quantity of bandits, since human enemies are imo the most interesting enemies to fight. Wildcat makes combat not poo poo Ordinator has a combat focused perk line for every skill tree i had lots of fun sneaking and pickpocketing. Steal a bandit camps weapons except the bandit leader, reverse pickpocket a cursed septim onto him and make everyone aggro onto him. Apocalypse adds a lot of fun spells that let you do neat things. Entomb a strong enemy in the earth, cause a lightning orb to follow a mook to their doom, summon a bridge just to gently caress with everyone's pathing. I forget the name of it, but there's a mod that makes illusion spells have no projectile which I liked a lot for an illusion playthrough. Morrowloot alters item power and progression enough to keep you from being an overpowered demigod for at least a few dozen levels. Overall though, the main problem is that the world and quests are pretty fuckin boring. The two main expansions help a little, and there's a few fun quest mods. I've heard good things about Bruma if you want to see Cyrodil again.

Average Bear posted:Is there a mod yet to make the game not a dull boring grey chore I don't know if you mean grey in a visual sense or not, but if you're just referring to visuals, a good lighting mod can cheer things up/spook things out pretty well. Additionally, there are some monster mods by this guy that are really good. For some reason, in my game at least, they like to spawn in big groups next to other big groups on top of vanilla groups, which makes roadside fights into a chaotic mess. Otherwise, they have interesting abilities, some can outright kill you even at higher levels, and others are just there to make you pull your hair out in frustration (imps.) I guess you just need to think of something that could be added to the game to make it more interesting, then go find the mod that does that. There are some mods that improve the vanilla game content, but honestly the best things are user created.

The old interesting npcs mod adds tons of fully voiced characters (who are mostly pretty good - just a few stinkers). But the 99% unannounced feature is that it also has a ton of new quests, and most are a bit more involved than the main game's "fetch me <radiant item> from <radiant dungeon>" So the highlight for me was (after a long ol quest chain) meeting a Thalmor defector and raiding a convoy to free the soul gems of murdered dissidents. Hell it even had its own sountrack for the finale. Strategic Tea fucked around with this message at 04:42 on May 12, 2018 |

I just finished my Skyrim install, and everything is beautiful and smooth but I have one major issue. The game isn't capturing my mouse in either borderless windowed or exclusive fullscreen, which leads to my cursor going to my secondary monitor and then when I click it minimises Skyrim. It's a huge pain and basically makes the game unplayable. The only fix I have found online is to use OneTweak, but I do have that installed (which is how I tested fullscreen vs borderless windowed). Anyone got any ideas? Load Order

I've never even heard of such a problem, sorry. Im going to go ahead and blame Randaconda though since he got probated, and can't defend himself. It really doesn't sound like something that would be load-order dependent. Is this SE or Oldrim. If it's oldrim, maybe try the equivalent function in ENB.

check the INI for onetweak? Else, look for whatever other SKSE plugins that might be in your MO profile and not showing up in load order. Either interacting with Onetweak negatively, or they have their own INIs to tinker with.

I also have this problem, and have had it on and off in both oldrim and special edition, for years and years. It's sporadic as hell and sometimes only starts happening if I alt-tab out of the game. The only mods we share in common are the unofficial patch, cutting room floor, better quest objectives, the paarthurnax dilemma, violens, alternate start, and vivid weathers.

I understand OBIS is a bit poo poo but it's not worth the effort of removing it for me. It also has all of Enai's mods, except for Sacrosanct which I'd be running if it was compatible. Current next step is to remove Vividian ENB and swap it out for NVLA or Snowfall, Vividian is just too bright and oversaturated for me. The game runs astonishingly well for how loaded up it is.

I'm using Win 10, no problems after update. Actually no problems in general, I've really enjoyed Win 10. I never wanted to leave XP back in the day but here we are. I wasn't a huge fan of 7, less with 8, but 10 feels like they remembered their audience doesn't all use touchscreen laptops. I think my only complaint is that various crashes can't be solved by killing the process in task manager(this has happened in Skyrim a handful of times), but the logging out feature is smoother so that's a better compromise than having to restart like I would on previous versions when an app locked up.

Not a single mod, but there is a collection of them: Google "Bypass" mods. There's one that lets you skip Bleak Falls Barrow, one that lets you skip The Throat of the World, and one that lets you skip Ustengrav.
