Pookah posted:Ah there's plenty of corned beef eaten in Ireland, you can even get it rolled in dirt for special occasions. Yeah, the tradition goes back to when the Irish immigrant population was still treated as second class poors stuck in a ghetto. Turns out their Jewish neighbors had this corning/pickling method to prepare the cheap hunks of meat they could get into halfway flavorful meals that just so happened to go well with the Irish vegetables of cabbage and potatoes. And so, one of the earliest forms of American fusion cooking was born.

spudsbuckley posted:Same thing with Irish Americans and corned beef. I eat corned beef here all the time - I get it from dunnes no problem, canned or at the meat counter. But it's a tradition that goes back to my English side way more than my Irish side of the family. It's very much a sandwich food here and trying to find a good corned beef hash is a fools errand.

When I was in America I had no problem finding actual mozzarella in the Supermarket but it was for some reason six times as expensive as in Germany, where mozzarella is the cheapest cheese you can buy (which makes sense since it’s the quickest to make).
