So Pauline gains votes for rejection of tax cuts. If Labor runs an election on tax cuts it's going to be QLD election mk2.

Random aside. Today, I learned about The Queens Commonwealth Canopy! An initiative started by her Maj back in 2015, where all nations of the Commonwealth would pledge to a network of participating protected woodland and forestry across the world. Nearly everyone's contributed. Canada gave the Great Bear Forest, 64,000 km/sq! Well poo poo, I can only assume said Australia. We don't want to protect any forest! That'll give the forest publicity! And stop us cutting it down! But we love Her Maj! We're the Libs, the monarchy party! But then some bright spark presumably had an idea! Why don't we solve this the same way we solve all our other problems! And so Australia pledged a forest. In Papua New Guinea. I'm assuming the course of events, but loving hell, we gave a forest IN PNG MikeJF fucked around with this message at 14:09 on May 27, 2018 |

Aesculus posted:It's still absolute poo poo to shut down discussion of how we can help these people who are being actively tortured in concentration camps and to still basically condone it. I was talking about the horrors of our immigration policy in a couple of other threads and people were responding well, then the whole "We lost one and a half thousand immigrant children after forcibly separating them from their parents for no reason other than racism and they're probably slaves now or dead. Also we tied them up and tased and tortured and starved and abused them for fun" thing came out with the US. It was like the "hold my beer" meme, but with crimes against humanity.

What if the optimist in me is correct in thinking the ALP will change tune and soften once in government? What if the current strategy of being a small target also means giving no narrative for the Coalition to grab onto. Or maybe they thirst for refugee blood.

They're forging a pretty clear narrative around business being held accountable which is all they really need right now. It's pretty incredible that there is such a high level of distrust for business right now. I've never experienced such a high density of terrible interviews with VECCI and AIG spokespeople on the radio. They're freaking out.

https://www.facebook.com/AngusMcAlpineGreensFootscray/ Phone/work posting so I'll just leave the link, but I don't know him which is why I ask. As someone who doesn't know him he comes across as very negative to me, and almost everything he's posted has been either slamming Labor or about refugees, with no positive policy announcements, which is not a great strategy for a state government election, especially with a fairly popular state Labor government. Also he keeps tagging things with #VicPol which someone should probably explain to him doesn't mean what he thinks it means.

Something that ALP strategists should probably be factoring into the mix is that, should they win election, all the Neo-con appointees in Border Farce will stop concealing the number of 'turn-backs', 'turn-back' deaths and concealed boat arrives and start leaking it all to the press. This will make it look like the ALP (or ALP & Greens) have 'lost control of our borders just like we said they would'. Any policy that isn't a straight out rejection of the current arrangements is doomed. Forget any humanitarian aspects this is pure strategy.

Probably the only way they could get ahead of this happening is if they conducted an investigation day one into historical statistics during the coalition days and released them straight away.

Yeah, that'd be the only way to get around it, but it'd rely on the MSM not being total poo poo and only focusing on the LNP talking points. Good luck Labor.
