Siri question. I’ve had it happen twice so far where I will say “Hey Siri I like this” to which she will respond “Do you?” Uh wtf does that mean? Did she like the song or what? Most of the time she says “Got it!”

Say “I like pie” “I like glarp” “I like <anything but a recognized special word>“ and Siri will respond “do you?”. So it sounds like what’s happening is if it catches “this” in your situation, it responds with “got it” and if it doesn’t it says “do you?”

WithoutTheFezOn posted:It didn’t understand the word “this”. MarcusSA posted:Siri question. Ok I have to come back this is question. It can be because she didn’t understand the word “this” reason I say that is because I told Siri I liked a song on my phone and she understood all of the words but still replied with “do you?” I know she got all of the words because they were typed out on the phone. So what’s up with that? Just a random bug? Besides that the HomePod is loving awesome and I use it every day. I’ll definitely get a second when I can have the same music upstairs and downstairs but for now it resides in the kitchen. Also it’s drat amazing how much better Siri is on the HomePod vs the iPhone (8+). It’s like night and day.

Is there a way to use voice commands to make the homepod continue playing whatever I was playing (through headphones) on my iPhone? I tried ‘continue playing what was on my iPhone’ and Siri said she couldn’t do that, but that could also mean I phrased it wrong.

Despite this ad from 2001 https://youtu.be/mE_bDNaYAr8 that has never worked for me on any combination of devices. You should be able to airplay it though

I said this in the Apple TV thread but I’m a little miffed that you can’t tell Siri via the HomePod to turn on the Apple TV and open an app (say direct Tv now). It really doesn’t seem like such a thing should be that complicated. Also I don’t know if this is a bug (it seems like it is) but the airplay hand off from the phone to the HomePod is a little weird. Like if I airplay a station from my phone but then tell the HomePod to stop playing music then a little later tell the HomePod to play some music it starts playing it from my phone not from the HomePod. Only reason this becomes an issue is when its doing that all of my phone sounds are routed through the HomePod (hint don’t watch porn on your phone lol). Has anyone else noticed this?

Is there any way to get this thing to not stop my music whenever an autoplay ad shows up on my phone? Browsing through Twitter and listening to music is impossible if I'm using Airplay. I guess the idea would be to use Siri to play my albums?

Use a non-lovely Twitter app and then you won't see ads. And, yeah, if you're listening to music, just use Siri.

11.3 is out. Which includes HomePod. (You update through the Home app)

Endless Mike posted:Can you explain this? I don't know what you mean Yeah, it's still new to me, so I may not explain this the best, but I assumed that you had two options for listening to music on the HomePod: 1. Ask Siri to play you something - this is the "pure" way to listen on the HomePod but requires vocal commands 2. Stream music through AirPlay on your device (iPhone, laptop, etc) - the way you would listen to the HomePod if you wanted to control it from your device What I didn't realize is that if you go to the menu where you choose where to stream to (either through the control center or the music app), you can scroll down and click on what's playing on the HomePod. From there it lets you directly control your HomePod from the music app, without having to AirPlay to it. Then the audio on the HomePod is completely separate from whatever plays on your phone. I've only had AirPlay receivers and Bluetooth speakers, which both rely on streaming from your phone, so I didn't realize it was an option for the HomePod to not rely on the phone for streaming, but still use it for audio controls. :edit: looking it up, I can't even find any good demonstrations for this. Here's an official Apple video that shows the HomePod audio controls in the Control Center, but doesn't mention that you can click the album artwork and choose a different song. I figured you just had the basic controls here (play, pause, next, back, volume), but any song changes needed to be done with your voice. I will note that anything not-Apple Music still has to be streamed using AirPlay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZABBsla6dtA&t=41s Dick Nipples posted:Ya that feature is neat. Yeah, It wasn't really clear from the app that this was the way to control the HomePod. I probably wouldn't have figured it out if some guy on Reddit didn't say "why are you airplaying to your homepod?" like I was an idiot. We did a bunch of promos at my work recently where the winner could pick the Sonos or HomePod. Everyone picked the HomePod. I am looking forward to 11.4 and being able to have the same thing playing in a bunch of places at once. Computer, AppleTV, and HomePod all in sync? Hell yeah!

I love my HomePod, but I wish she was more of the "central" Siri. There's too many things she can't do and refers you to ask your phone when she should be the main bitch in charge.

It's really bad that when multiple devices hear you, the HomePod gets priority, even if it's not something it can do, but one of the others can.

I haven’t run into this at all, I think. I’ll usually throw a timer on my watch via siri and the HomePod never trips on it so I think it knows when not to listen. Then again, it’s really only those 2 devices I have Hey siri on so maybe it works differently with iPads and iPhones.

Our HomePod will take over almost instantly if she even slightly hears you. The only way to not use it is if you hold the Siri button or you quietly say it in another room
