How about the French Canadian lyrics of the anthem that talk about wielding swords and Catholicism.

Honestly I'm like 99% sure my grandparents would have hosed off if they were told they had to learn God save the queen to get citizenship Also dude who joined the Canadian Alliance and then the tories because the libs were too commie for him knew both sets of lyrics for O Canada by heart plus the entirety of God save the queen, it was scary to watch even as a teen and everytime I hear about his antics he's further to the right.

Surprised at all the anthem playing, in Edmonton where I went to school it was basically "do it before assemblies or for Remembrance Day stuff" and that was it.

I went to elementary school in BC, the national anthem was played every morning and most of the younger classes sang along. When I moved to Alberta for high school it was weird to see that traded out for the Lord's Prayer.

We had the Lord's Prayer in elementary school but I think we dropped it in grade four or five or something. We also had ONE anthem in middle/high school, it was the Alanis version, and i'm convinced it was just subconsciously training everyone to buy her CDs in grade twelve.

I remember the anthem in grade school, K-9. They used to only have 1 version of the anthem until grade 6 I want to say and then someone was able to scrape together enough funds to buy the school 5 different versions including a "fun" acapella version that played on Fridays. No one ever sung along and I honestly can't remember if they played the anthem once I got into high school, I always made sure my first period was a spare so I could sleep in.Mad Hamish posted:Hey, so I just got a text from what I assume is a Conservative organization based on the name: I thought this was illegal now and all email/text communication that organizations send out had to be with people that opt-in or that have had a "prior business relationship with the organization in the last 2 years"

Goddamn, I'd forgotten about that one. Yeah, our school played the bilingual version, but mixed it up every so often with like, acoustic versions or whatever. We also prayed afterward, but I went to Catholic schools, so that's to be expected.

A country that bases its entire economic policy and a big part of its culture on symbiosis with America deserves to get slapped around economically. If I were a less cynical person I might even say this could yield some educational value to our national elites and policy makers.
