Didn’t think that was classified info but still pretty weird. Lastly we had to double on certain tour groups because they kept trying to get lost. Was comical. Over though we had a great weekend and nobody from my group got in trouble.

I have so many questions. Like are they trying to sell the info to the Chinese government or legit sent by them? Whole thing is wild. I always heard the stories and don’t talk to anyone loose lips sink ships etc but drat I guess I’m wondering what the legalities are here if it’s not actual service men taking and sharing these photos. The nanny cam is spooky for sure

AT orders approved for Mayport at LCSRON. Cant wait to not touch the gear or stand watch since I haven't gone through 3m or srf-b in the reserves, never mind that I was an active duty sailor for ten years. I'm sure I'll be well tasked!

Yeah our command is pretty vocal about utilizing reservists within their rates and doing something that helps both them and the ship. If the AT guys get hosed with, all they have to do is tell their command and we stop getting guys. I mean I am no sailor so half of what you guys talk about is greek to me but I sit in all the dumb meetings where idiots propose things like making AT guys mess cranks and stuff.

Reservists on LCS is tough. The most useful thing I've had reservists do is escort duty during a maintenance avail where contractors outnumbered crew. It sounds like a waste of time but my guys were able to spend a couple of hours working on causalities without being called to the quarterdeck and it makes all the difference. The core LCS scheduled maintenance load isn't overly heavy (at least for non engineers); the sailors mostly drown in those uncounted sailor hours: collaterals, training requirements, correspondence with and management of contracted maintenance, programs, feed back reports, etc. These are difficult to load balance in a meaningful way to reservists who are probably unfamiliar with the systems and processes in the LCS unique snowflake model. Since reservists show up with proof of weapons qualification almost never, the next most useful thing would probably be second signing tags? Assuming they show up with proof of those qualifications, that is. I've also never been contacted ahead of time about what would be useful and what prework will get us there, but I'm just a lowly DIVO, and don't rate high enough for that level of planning. Usually just find out on a Monday that there are four unqualified first classes looking for tasking--outbrief will be on Thursday.

Yea I imagine no one will let me touch anything even though i build the loving things in big boy land. I wouldn't mind heading to the 3m academy or whatever bs the navy requires but everytime I call the unit I get a different person who knows less than the last person. I dont know give me a pqs or something.

So as I wrap up my first trip to Bahrain all I can say is how much respect I have for any of you that have actually had to spend a year or more here. It is so much worse than I had ever imagined. I guess my biggest takeaway is that it basically seems like one huge retarded all star / celebrity softball game. Some folks are trying hard, others are just showing their face, a few are hanging with their buds, and the rest are Carrot Top. Because of the generally short term orders like 90% of every shop I dealt with was either in their CMS window or had a huge case of short timer syndrome.

You're not going to want to hear this but your best bet is going to be military housing unless the apartments in San Diego have changed wildly since I've been out there.

What's the SO (if any) do for hobbies? For work? Kids? What resources (if any) do you value having in walking distance? In short driving distance? Bars, grocery, parks, restaurants, the beach, music venues, hiking, etc. How many vehicles are you showing up with (parking is awful here, so ensuring you have parking should be part of your math, and if you like to go out, being able to do so without parking is highly valuable) Consider mass transit availability or ease of biking to work if you're interested in those things. Some parts of San Diego are decently serviced by mass transit (depending where you want to go) others are impossible dreams. Too expensive and/or too crowded unless you find a sweet spot on the edges: Downtown, Little Italy, Coronado island Walkable, in town, probably has a grocery and things to do nearby: North Park, Hilcrest, Bankers Hill, East Village. Depending where your BAH is, you can get fairly under your BAH in these areas On the edge: South Park, City Heights (most of City Heights is garbage, so be careful with this one), Kensington (this is a fairly quiet area, somewhat expensive in parts), Mission Hills, University Heights Beachy places near town: pacific Beach, ocean beach For the olds/truly in the burbs: Encinitas, Carlsbad, Santee

Not Navy but commutes suck. Also being close to work sucks if everything you like to do after work is a long way away from there. It gets harder when there's a mix. My supermarket's on the corner, got decent restaurants nearby, work's 30 mins direct bus in good traffic, 45 in bad traffic - but my gym's 90 mins away with nothing realistic closer. For me that works because I get to live outside suburbia, my rent's considerably lower, and since my main evening thing is good food I can cook easily or eat out easily. I would like a shorter commute and 100% need a closer gym, but on balance it works because I can do emails and poo poo on public transport, so it isn't entirely wasted time also the good bars round here have busses all night so I can get plastered and not worry about a DUI. I suppose that's my other hobby

If you're E6/O2 or above w/ dependents, BAH is going to clock around 3000+, otherwise around $2500. That area has access to beaches, best possible commute to FASW and not bad to 32nd Street, Mt Calliboro Park, which is pretty cool though you'll grow to loathe it due to proximity to work. A pretty nice restaurant scene only slightly outdone by North Park, Hillcrest, and Little India. Northern Point Loma has some Midwest style sprawl, which will get you access to groceries, etc. Very suburban feel away from OB. I'd take a look at what's in PB (beach access, good restaurants, cool local businesses and a cool coffee shop/business center for the wife) as well. Brah is part of the local dialect. Mission Valley is well priced for homes if you live a rich internal life, but super soulless, corporate and full-of-malls. And guarded from transit by an enormous hill and interstate access, so you'll only be biking to those malls. But good car access to all of San Diego with good homes rates. Just expect to drive often, if never super far. Enjoy access to everything San Diego has to offer if you can overcome the inertia of driving. Mission Hills, though pushing the upper end of BAH isn't too bad either, with great access.

Seconding Point Loma. Lived there for 3 years and change, and there's no way I'd live anywhere else if I got stationed back there. 15 minute right turn onto 32nd Street commute was a godsend some days when I was late. I had a roommate, but (this was in 2009 to 2012) our combined rent and utilities was less than my E5 Bah.

we ended up getting a place in mission valley; its clean/low crime, we end up pocketing about 700 before utitilies from BAH alone and its right next to basically anything; shopping/restaurants, 10m drive to FASW / 15m drive to 32nd, trolley access; i could go on but it's awesome. thanks for the tips! i don't think i've ever felt low-class before in my life but driving through coronado's tourist area is probably the closest; that place is nice

Navy resurrected WO1 for CTN Ions because they all get out. They they went and made it a 6 year service commitment. Which is really really stupid. Why would anyone ( thinking of staying in) go warrant at E5, give up the massive reenlistment bonus you can get, only to get promoted to CWO2 in a few years and wind up a Divo or something? Everyone gets out because the promotion pulls them away from doing the actual job. Let them do the loving job and they might not get out.
