May be a goon doc thing. Dunno. I'm not too concerned, but obviously concerned enough... I'm having an intimate relationship with a 36 year old female. She's had an IUD for 5 years. A few days ago she got her IUD replaced with a new one (standard procedure). No big deal. GYN said use condoms for 2 weeks. Last night, condom broke because I'm an idiot who can't use a condom correctly. Full load. Anyway. Age isn't a factor to me. Women in their 40s get pregnant. She's willing to take Plan B. Should we do that? She hasn't had a cycle in years. The new IUD was in place already for a few days. So I dunno. Even catching a full ejaculation, I think the chance of conception is astronomically tiny. What do you think? Would Plan B be worth anything more than just a bit of peace of mind? It's probably expensive, which isn't a huge deal. But, she gets Chron's flare ups sometimes and stuff. I know Plan B makes a woman sick and stuff. I dunno. Whatcha think? Thank You

Better safe than sorry. Plan B can make you feel crappy for a day or so, but everyone I know that's used it says it's worth the peace of mind. I have no idea if Chrons can have a negative interaction, though.

The whole point of an IUD is preventing pregnancy, they don’t need a run up to efficacy when they’re placed. If she wants advice on birth control, and especially interactions with crohns, she should call her gyno or at minimum ask the pharmacist.

It's a Mirena which is the standard IUD. GYN said wait two weeks before testing it's sperm-rejection skills. I dunno. Doesn't make sense to me either. How's anything gonna implant? I think we good.

Just gonna note that if someone does somehow manage to get pregnant with a Mirena or other IUD there is an increased chance of it being an ectopic pregnancy so if you do start getting weird pregnancy like symptoms please check it out before your fallopian tube ruptures and you die but yes, extremely unlikely
