Who's got the videos of the racers hauling balls on public roads (I remember a TL1000 being involved) with calm voice over?

Love to see that poo poo again.

I'd also like to see that video of the Euro dudes screwing around on a kart track on 250s and maybe supermotos. At one point they have four or five dudes on one bike, dragging knees in corners. There's also a caterpillar bucket full of water and a dude in it getting dumped out.

As a thanks in advance, have different blast from the past: Nicky Hayden and Max Biaggi playing on sumos.

I wonder how close a modern superbike would come to that lap time? I mean they all make considerably more power than an 80s NSR (~150hp) and probably have tricker suspension, but obviously weigh a lot more and are on street tyres.

In the 1988 US MotoGP at Laguna Seca the fastest lap was 1:29.2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_United_States_motorcycle_Grand_Prix

And the current motorcycle record is held by Casey Stoner at 1:20.7: http://www.weathertechraceway.com/pace-car-driver/mazda-raceway-laguna-seca-0

9 seconds is a relative eternity on a track that short, but at the same time it's pretty incredible that 30 years of development have only led to an 11% improvement in lap time. Especially considering the tires they were running back in the 80s. Those NSR500s were fast.

And note that the current record is also for a race-prepped track bike. I'm positive the NSR500 would still beat any modern superbike if they had to run street tires.

Called my dad, he knew instantly what film I was talking about. I could have done that to begin with but the old man is hospitalized and often cannot pick up. A sad story in that he has to do away with all his bikes due to the accident in april that left him wheelchair bound.

Here is a picture of him on the track of about 4 years back. He turned 70 last year and we had many plans to ride. He now told my mother that he will keep his gear so he can sit on my buddyseat, so who knows?

The implication.

This guy was a regular poster on the B-King forums, then one day mentioned he was riding to the shops. Never posted again, and sleuths on the forum found out someone had failed to yield at a roundabout and killed him.

That's the Fast Bikes magazine crew, featuring Shakey Byrne, who most recently posted this pic after crashing his BSB superbike during testing.

God I miss Schiller-era Fast Bikes magazine. Schiller himself (the guy doing the voiceover, and also who did the 80s hair metal guitar noodling over their videos) was a prick of the highest order but he knew what made a great magazine. Also launched the racing careers of Shakey Byrne and Rob Frost (both road testers for the mag and riders in that vid), and was apparently the guy who got Chris Walker his first factory race.

Anyway the year this vid came out (which was a bit of a low point for superbikes - 916 excepted it was the height of the "way too much engine in nowhere near enough chassis" era) they gave "Bike of the Year" to a Chinese moped done up like the bike from Easy Rider with the apehangers and Stars and Stripes tank, because even though it was a hardtail with 6 foot front forks they said it easily out-handled all of the usual suspects (and Ducati had stopped letting them have loan bikes for... some reason).

Could only find a facebook video, but BRC Racing got a 500cc kit running. It's based on the KTM 250/300 2-strokes between 2007-2016 and from what I can tell, reuses the gearbox and side covers but replaces pretty much everything else in the engine.

I pretty frequently buy stupid poo poo that costs enough it might raise the eyebrows of the more fiscally responsible, and even I am not dumb enough to buy a 500cc 2-stroke frankenmotor based on a KTM. Do people really miss the CR500 THAT much?
