Just as Spawn, the comic book that is still being published in 2018, will never ever stop being extremely 90s (the most recent issue had eight variant covers!), so was Spawn: The Album (which was a fancy way of saying "the soundtrack to the movie") extremely 90s.

Like the soundtrack to Judgment Night, it also had songs that were collaborations between artists of two disparate genres:

I have no idea if it "holds up" because what minimal exposure I had to it when it was new didn't make me want to actively seek it out and spend time listening to it.

Trainspotting #2 is really good as well, itirc, it was songs that he wanted to use but couldn't originally get the release for? I still haven't watched T2 - Trainspotting, so I can't speak to that movie or its soundtrack.

Thinking of the biggest soundtrack albums of the past five years or so, they're either all originals from the movies (Frozen, The Greatest Showman) or licensed songs that were played in the movie (Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel).

I can't remember how it was for the Black Panther - it might have been more of a "from and inspired by" affair but I'm not sure.

Black Panther basically fits that mold, as far as I could tell only 2 songs from the soundtrack album appear in it (club scene and credits).

Which isn't too surprising because it's actually some pretty raw stuff for a PG-13 Disney movie.

The uboat base thing is completely made up for the article as no one could find any actual records of that other than some History Channel documentary. It's not like he wet the bed in late childhood or something, he made conscious decisions to espouse nazi beliefs when he was well aware of what they stood for. All those neo-nazi people that have left and wrote books on how the insights of how they recruit, how they twist and manipulate groups and people, how they operate in general so we can learn their tricks, IT'S JUST APART OF THEIR PLAN THERE JUST TRICKING US STILL. Now Blade, Blade had a rave scene. And a scene where that rave was being sprayed down with blood. And the bad guy was Stephen Dorff.

A lot of the people making it had a background that was very different than what was described. Dr. Dre went to a suburban high school. Ice Cube went to college in Arizona and studied architectural drafting. Chuck D was studying graphic design (which he has a B.F.A. in) at Adelphi when he met Flav. Kurtis Blow was a communications student at Nyack. Common went to a private high school and then Florida A&M to study business administration. Tupac studied jazz and ballet at a magnet school in Baltimore. The guys in De La Soul went to high school in Amityville, which is about as suburban as you can get.

The number of old-school rappers who were serious criminals might actually be lower than the number that had middle-class backgrounds and never came within a mile of crime.

I went to Sleep No More in NYC, which is ordinarily a silent production of Macbeth conducted in a giant 6-story set made up like a 1920s Scottish village and Prohibition-era hotel. Lots of creepy and dramatic orchestral music.

And then if you catch the witches' prophecy with Macbeth, it's suddenly a crazy rave with strobe lights, naked people getting fake blood poured all over them, lots of screaming, and people having seizures dancing on tables to this music:

I loved that production, I've been twice and would go again. The art direction is gorgeous and ridiculously intricately detailed. Malcom's a private investigator and you can creep through his office and go through his files and you go into his darkroom and he's got some weird ornithomancy thing going on. You can pretty much ignore the play entirely and just explore an enormous space filled with creepy poo poo. It's also not just Macbeth, it's Macbeth mashed up with Rebecca (which I've never read, so I was kind of lost there).

I was, however, not prepared for the amount of dong being hung all around that show. The nightclub rave, I had one actor's gyrating dingus flopping about 2' away from my face.
