They both do the Screech thing but the anime one is much more chill afterwards.

I.. am not sure? Dragon girl was specifically following Lindon not only because she thought he knew something, but also because black dragon ingredients are worth money, so she wanted to harvest Orthos. The attendants are basically victims here, but there is no real indication she would not have killed him had she taken the eyes of the deep. Or any indication he could have survived without it even if she didn't (and she wanted Orthos too).

She specifically said she would let him live if he handed over the Eye of the Deep (and there's nothing to suggest she was lying, especially since there was nothing really stopping her from killing him first and then taking the Eye).

I mean, she also specifically said she was looking forward to skinning and selling off Orthos, and the thing that would stop her from killing him first and then taking the eye is him plausibly destroying the eye first/trying to escape.

Ghostwater discussion: At the end of the day, Ekeri was using the threat of lethal violence to shake him down (also, even if she left in alive he would die without the Eye when the world collapsed). Saying "I won't kill you if you give me your stuff" is effectively the same as saying "I will kill you if you don't", so it's hard for me to empathize too much when it comes back to bite her.

I thought Ghostwater was a big improvement over Skysworn, and I was glad to see the world and some of the major power players in more detail. I liked the self contained story - Skysworn would have been better if it didn't have to spend the first half wrapping up the Jai Long fight storyline. I'm excited to see where the story goes next.

I'm telling my mommy. That pubbie doesn't do video games right!
The dragon girl and Harmony were both really straight plays of typical xianxia character archetypes. I didn't find them sympathetic at all and I don't think they were supposed to be.

Don't doodle on it!

I’ve been reading that sword reincarnation thing as my garbage fiction that I read before going to sleep, and I don’t know if it’s even good enough for that to keep happening. What broke it for me is (chapter 200-ish) all of the completely unearned powerups. The protagonist gains level-up points offscreen as the result of training mentioned in a couple of throw-away lines, then those points are spent offscreen without being mentioned at all, and then the protagonists pull an exciting new bullshit powerup out of their asses with no lead up whatsoever, just “we use this new power, which i bought a little while ago”. The most egregious of these was the fact that the heroine’s main driving plot arc was literally resolved exactly the same way: entirely off screen so that it could be used as an 11th-hour powerup. It felt entirely unearned, too! Even when there was a flashback to show how she accomplished her life’s goal, it was revealed to literally just be “the people we lucked into meeting spent a ton of resources on summoning a monster for us to defeat in half a chapter”.

The fight scenes were basically the only thing keeping me going, but now I can’t even trust those to be good anymore.

Feels like it's been a while, but I found a Japanese web novel I can recommend: Ore no Megane wa Tabun Sekai Seifuku Dekiru to Omou

It's a non-isekai fantasy story about a world where everyone receives a special Talent when they come of age, and the protagonist's is the incomprehensible "Glasses" gift, initially letting him summon a pair of spectacles to, uh, improve his poor eyesight. Since boyhood he's been the village hunter's apprentice, after his teacher noticed he'd always be hiding away from attention and would thus be good at stalking prey, so now that he sets out into the world with his trusty bow, he gets to put these skills to use.

Basically, it's got lots of monster hunting and adventuring and learning to grow ever stronger, surrounded (grudgingly) by friends and powerful teachers. What makes it special is really the voice of the narrative, with the protagonist's reluctance to be around other people often leading to laughs. In that way it kind of reminds me of Kumoko. It's also being updated frequently, with something like a hundred new pages of content monthly.

Someone go translate it for the Western audience, please.

Just finished the web novel "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" (partially machine translated into Chinese). The story overall is at least pretty decent, let's hope the actual novel release will be much better.

ha ha, there's a blatant chinese wn ripoff of saiki kusuo, except the jokes are tedious and incomprehensible and the mc is mostly just an rear end in a top hat for no particular reason. also, no one seems to have motivations for their actions so it's just unpleasant characters doing boring things for no discernible reason. it's so bad it gives me a headache. here's the link in case someone feels like punishing themselves: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/the-daily-life-of-the-immortal-king/

That seemed interesting up until the mention of the protagonist's reluctance to be around people. It seems like that's the case 95% of the time with WNs, and while I guess the author is just writing with their audience in mind, I find it really off-putting. I really hated that aspect of Kumoko's character as well.

Eh. It wouldn't be Kumoko without lots of voiceover from the main character; I assume VAs get paid more for big roles like that. Plus they need VAs for the Voice of Heaven, Shun, Katia, etc.

99% of the lines from the dungeon arc are kumoko babbling madly to herself

also the dungeon arc is like half of the series

seems harmless, huh? well by the third chapter it starts gunning straight for a bestiality ending. i don't want to read any further chapters.

there's a big difference between a former human getting horny for a big titty elf and a big titty elf getting horny for a small cat.

It's an isekai. No matter what body the protagonist is wearing, the ladies are going to want to gently caress him. No exceptions.

It is pretty funny that they're not even trying to put a figleaf on it, though.

"...and she wants to gently caress."

"The cat? That's pretty weird!"

The official translation scene has taken off a bit since the OP of the thread was made too. Yen Press and the other various publishers all have pretty high quality translations (relative to typical web novel TLs) if what you're looking for has been picked up by one of them.
