Yeah, Shantae is cute and relevant. K. Rool and Waluigi can stay trophies, assist or otherwise, let the cuties be playable. Of the Indie Characters, #1 Cutie Shovel Knight needs to join the battle first of course, but Shantae can be second. If this was the complete roster I would not be happy with it tbh. I kinda hate most of the oldcomers and think it was a waste to bring most of them back. Like everything else sounds pretty danged good but man, I like playing smash for the new characters. Only having 2 would just kill a lot of my interest. (I mean, I'd still get it to play with friends but ehh) Also I think if they had another 3rd party they would of announced it at E3 or the actual game announcement. Just me tho on that front.

Of course only 3 (Hi I'm Daisy) are completely new, but there's a ton of old characters returning that have been reworked no doubt, some of which haven't been seen since Melee, 17 years ago. That's a big deal, and that's apart from the returning stages and gameplay overhaul. According to Wikipedia, Smash 4 finished with 58 characters and Smash Ult is starting at 68 (presumably separating the Mii's and echoes, which I consider fair) so that's 10 more characters before any new announcements or DLC. I'm not saying people can't be disappointed if this is the finished roster, and it definitely isn't with us still 6 months out, but saying it's not enough as is is being a little greedy IMO.

It's not that I want everything ontop of what we got now. I just don't see why we need 3 links that all have close to the same exact moves just with slightly different properties. A pikachu that hurts itself doing literally anything or 3 marths. Like of the oldcomers returning the only wants that I'm actually cool with off the top of my head are Snake, Ice Climbers and Wolf because they offer their own unique play styles. Everything else could of remained in the abyss and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep. (And if I'm being totally honest I'm only okay with wolf because I know a handful of people were desperate for his playstyle even if he was a semi clone) I'd probably be a lot lighter on Smash if Sakurai just left out the "hope you aren't expecting that many new guys" because it is cool they got everyone in there. I just don't care about that though. Also I *dislike* that Ridley got in and I don't think he fits at all art style wise

btw I dissed the idea of patches instead of solaire earlier but solaire's final smash would have to be something boring like sunlight spear while patches' final smash would be luring someone off the stage edge with promises of treasure and that would be really really good

Realistically, if any further characters are added and Sakurai didn't just blow the entire load at once, I'd say there's probably only gonna be one or two more, not counting any DLC stuff that happens. Also realistically, Sakurai doesn't change his design documents to add or remove new characters after they're written, so as to avoid loving up the budget and workload. The deluge in Fire Emblem stuff in Smash 4, for example, was due to FE Awakening taking off right as the initial designs were being written up. So, if you want to get super-educated with your guesses, take a step back and try and think of what was popular around February 2016, when Smash 4 DLC development ended...

theres been lots and lots of rumors that microsoft signed off on some Smash Bros content, part of which will be in the base game and part of which will be DLC. we dont know if thats legit or not yet but if its true banjo may have gotten in, and probably some kind of minecraft level or something

It would be so loving weird to see the Minecraft guy, probably the lowest effort character ever made, in Smash, a series known for insane levels of polish in just about everything. I don't think even Sakurai could make it work, unless he's a joke character that only has one attack and the same half-assed animations as his home game.
