It was a daunting nightmare prospect when I graduated from college in 2007 (brb crumbling to dust and blowing away in the wind), I can't imagine it's much better now. Death of print and exploitative industry practices are a big piece of it, but i think even they are a symptom of a larger cultural devaluation of the arts. Free and constant online content is a terrible model but since we all expect it or have been conditioned to expect it, we all go along with it, and all the art gets worse because only the cheapest stuff can survive. My (partly rhetorical, partly not) question is, how do you fix it? How do you get people to care about art again without it feeding into their existing addictions to "content?" Can you make it work outside the existing channels? (Do the existing channels work to begin with?) And ultimately, how much of the problem is created by collective willingness to accept the state of the industry as a reality and not do anything to change it? Ye Olde Ancestral Illustrators probably touched a higher percentage of boobies than modern porn illustrators. The bigger problem with the proliferation of online porn isn't moral so much as it is a complete detachment from and misunderstanding of their actual sexuality. this broken hill posted:there is legit a children's book illustrated (not written) by me that can only be purchased in a single bookshop in jerusalem, it features a princess marrying a giant lizard in a traditional jewish wedding mazel tov!

There's a system with the free online content. If you want free art, it's plentiful, but you only get what the artists want to draw for their own gratification. If you want someone to make something for you, you still gotta pay. drat near everyone takes commissions if they're not running some other enterprise (like a webcomic). With the size of the internet and the sheer quantity of talented artists, you can get pretty specific about what you want to see before you need to actually ask someone to make it for you, but that isn't going to help, say, a business looking for an original mascot or something. Of course when it comes to interacting with businesses, art suffers badly from the internship problem, where there's enough people who would do it for free in the hopes of it leading to paid work that a lot of potential clients expect to not have to pay anyone at all. And since most such artists are going solo without experience, they're easily taken advantage of. I remember seeing a form contract floating around on Tumblr, written up by a lawyer, that actually makes "doing it for exposure" binding and requires the client to direct potential business your way; I hope stuff like that can catch on.

I've also seen a project manager on Tumblr grumbling about artists screwing themselves over in this regard; he'll be happy to pay his artists in cash money, just as soon as they remember to send him an invoice/timesheet, after the 3rd reminder a year after they send in the piece.

I started looking at new comics Kickstarters, and felt I needed to share some with everyone. Hard-On Issue One! It's about a superhero who only has superpowers when he's sporting wood. Yeah. The Developing Adventures of Golden Girl volume 2 Apparently about a pubescent girl with about 50% of her body mass in her breasts. It's funded, of course. The kickstarter creator also runs a futanari porn site and several other porn comic sites. The Mighty Utahn. I have no idea how this got 22 people to pledge $1700. Grand Strand Comic Con. Yeah, no video and your title image is a grainy gif using comic sans. Way to make a good impression. Gunfree Left-wing snowflake liberal anti-gun stereotypes in a zombie apocalypse. There's a 5-page preview on Tapas, and it's about what you'd expect. And a good one: FTL Y'all: Tales From the Age of the $200 Warp Drive IronSpike's back with another anthology!

From my reading, they seem to think that anti-gamergaters are the real hate group. But then again, they're so stupid and self-important I think it's just a matter of them vehemently hating everything because it's not them. I hope this type of post is allowed in here, but I did some unsuccessful googling and wanted to ask somewhere before I forget to do so later. There was a web comic that I remember from a long time ago that was one of those that just stopped updating one day and eventually the domain lapsed and the author never came back. It was interesting in that it was animated a bit - flash I think - and I think may have even had some level of interactivity to it? It was a mystery comic with a good few chapters that ended when the mystery was solved. I think it started when the protagonist got trapped in the village/town when the bridge collapsed on his way in. I remember there were a few inhuman characters, like one of the girl characters had feelers on the top of her head or something? My memory is so vague but I definitely remember it being a thing, I just can't remember the name of it. If anyone somehow remembers what I'm talking about based on that hot mess of a description I would love to know what the name of it was!
