So on the latest Harmontown Spencer introduces himself with chef Kevin catchphrase and no one reacts, endearing Spencer to my heart once again.

Spencer is such a crazy example of good audience interaction. He’s just a random dude who volunteered to DM for Harmontown and instantly became the MVP for most episodes. He is absolutely willing to go for the hard/impossible laughs in front of a live audience, which is pretty crazy for someone with no previous stage training.

I recently listened to a HH where they kept making Jay Leno jokes and Sean kept doing a great impression and parody of his bits. Any idea which episode this was, and even better yet maybe the time frame? May have been a pro version.

I have no control, I just keep eating, and eating.
Since I've only listened to one recently, and it was in it, I'd say Julie Klausner's latest regular version.

I just caught up on the last few weeks of James Bonding. So after they finish up with Casino Royale, Quantum, Never Say Never Again, and Everything or Nothing, they're just going to do Bond parodies and Indiana Jones?

I liking Obscure but I find it grating how the very idea of reading Thomas Hardy is seen as a joke strong enough to sustain a podcast.

I just wish it'd been a more universal "I should get around to reading that some day but probably won't" book like East of Eden or Ulysses or Infinite Jest, even though they're not in the public domain.

I don’t hate Mira, but I’ll admit i don’t get why he’s so successful. Maybe he’s funnier in the writers room than he is in literally every other situation.

My only guess is that he's just a nice dude that people like to work with.

Fiendly
May 27, 2010

That's not right!
He has the confident delivery of a funny person, which seems to trick people into thinking what he's saying is actually funny, though that's rarely the case. He's fine as a Bond fan Gourley can bounce comedy off of, but holy poo poo the Austin Powers episode was so dry and unfunny, I was devastated by how little fun they managed to have with it (and a lot of that is on the guest, but Mira's still a drag)

Chairman Capone

Yeah, the Austin Powers episode was a slog to get through. About half the episode was actually about Austin Powers to begin with - and I recognize it's normal for James Bonding to wander, but it felt especially bad this episode, maybe because I just did not care for the guest talking about his musical tastes in the 90s or whatever - and even when they did talk about the movie it felt like the most surface-level stuff possible. I had way more fun with the episode on Dr. No with the woman who knew nothing about Bond at all.

I have the same issues with Matt Belknap. He drags down every episode of NNF for me. If I end up listening, I always skip to the guest segment to avoid him as much as possible.

Okay but which of the NNF guys would play which character in Hamilton?

Yeah, I was skipping to the guest segments during the last season I was subscribed for too, mainly because I really soured on Matt. Elliot to a lesser extent.

Matt can be very pedantic and go down tedious side-tracks at times, but I haven't gotten to the point where I'll skip ahead. He still comes up with enough funny to balance it out for me. I can see how other people might see it differently though.

I don’t think it’s particularly early. I think it was sometime after the first Preacher’s Lounge episode.
