Release Schedule: Weekly-ish Twitter: https://twitter.com/BreakMayberry Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BreakingMayberry/ Email us: breakingmayberry@gmail.com Breaking Mayberry is a comedy/criticism podcast where two guys (one of which is me) go back and watch every episode of the Andy Griffith Show to understand why its such a big deal. What made this show such a cultural touchstone, and why is it always brought up by conservatives as "the way things should be?" Along the way, we learn about the turbulent '60s, come up with fan theories, and explore the weird world of Mayberry. The comedy holds up - the lessons not so much. New Episodes 09: You're Lucky It's Columbus Day, Al Capone! This time around, Breaking Mayberry covers S01Ep17 - "Alcohol and Old Lace," talking about Andy and Barney's crackdown on the controlled substances in Mayberry County, NC. We brought on freelance cannabis writer Russ Smith to talk about some parallels to today's most contentious Type-1 narcotic, and we get into the fallout of the war on drugs, the Federal v. State law debacle, and some extreme parts of class warfare. Yes, this is still a podcast about The Andy Griffith Show, why do you ask? 10: This Is Not At All How The Stock Market Works Another round of Mayberry goodness and this time we have a special guest - Joseph McCarthy! (No seriously, we talk about McCarthyism and blacklisting in this one, turns out the Andy Griffith show was not immune from it.) First up, yet another episode about a stranger coming into town and getting under Andy's skin, but this one has like 30% more bluegrass - it's S01EP19 "Mayberry on Record" Next, it's the fascist reign of Barney Fife we've all been wating for when Barney takes over as acting sheriff in S01EP20 - "Andy Saves Barney's Morale" and to be honest, this one is so dark in context that we end up kinda loving it.

Release Schedule: Every Saturday! Duration: Varies on the longer side, somewhere between 1h40 to 2h15 at the extreme ends. Goon: Myself (Monathin)/Sven Michel, alongside my longtime friends/nongoons Alexa Hollow and Van Ong Description: Don't know your Kikaider from your Space Sheriff? Do the phrases 'Heisei Era' and 'Showa Era' fill you with a deep primal fear? Ever wanted to look into the origins of all those weird live-action shows Saban pushed in the 90s? Look no further! Henshin History is a podcast of tokusatsu heroes, from the beginning to now, and of three friends whose lives have been utterly ruined by spandex superheroes starting a perilous journey through nearly 50 years of tokusatsu history, with the occasional detour for context. --- Most Recent Episode: Episode 25: You See, Ivan - Cyborg Soldier gives us the warm-up to the Kingdom of Yomi: The Mutant Warriors arc! It's some time-travel nonsense that also expands upon the origins of Cyborg 001/Ivan Whisky and his terrible, no good, very bad father; who the show attempts to walk back, much to our indignation. Also, Van and I betray each other constantly. Next Episode: Kamen Rider 1971 - Dr. Shinigami finally gets his proper sendoff.

The Spoony Bard's Aural Theatre Last year my partner and I did a multiple-episode radio-drama-esque reenactment of Final Fantasy IV and Fallout 1. We're currently working on a 9-episode run of Soul Blazer, but in the meantime I wanted to try this other project out. I think this is going to appeal to a real niche of person -- like me. You know, there's that saying...if you can't find what you want, then make it. Or... it's something like that. The message is clear. This is a kind of radio drama reenactment of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. Yeah, the real time-strategy. Basically, this is an attempt to adapt nostalgia into a slightly different medium. We've described our podcast as a kind of "let's play for the ears" and that may be the most true in this example. Anyway, maybe it sucks, maybe not, but if you like it, let me know or let me know how I can improve it. First, in episode 23, "The New Doctor", Andy is jealous of a new young doctor in town that he thinks is trying to steal Ellie. In the studio, we stumble upon a piece of Queer Lit history and wonder how many Opies it would take to beat one Barney Fife in hand-to-hand combat. Next, our spirits are broken by "Andy and Opie, Housekeepers,"an episode we're not going to describe here because it sucks and is so insanely boring and we'd rather be talking about literally anything else oh god please help. 16: Andy Proves That He's Daddy In this episode, both hosts are absolutely furious, but at different times. It's a real bad cop/also a bad cop situation. In Season 1, Episode 25, "A Plaque For Mayberry", the town of Mayberry ignores an alcoholic's obvious cries for help, and we find a Southern-ism that makes even less sense than usual. Next, Season 1 Episode 26, "The Inspection," it finally looks like our' prayers will be answered and an authority figure will finally hold Andy Taylor accountable.... haha, no, this show's just gonna kiss his bumpkin rear end like it always does. 17: Swarmed By Horny Farmhands Look, this Andy Griffith episode starts off boring and benign and then it turns into THE MOST SEXIST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN ON TV. HOLY poo poo.

CSPAM ON THE AIRWAVES, A GOON PROJECT GETS OFF THE GROUND Two goons discuss the TV show "The West Wing" and its impact on American political culture from a leftist perspective. Genre: Political and TV I guess? Release Schedule: Once a week! We can do it! RSS Feed: code:
Original Thread Post: Mao Zedong, 'Combat Liberalism', 1937 posted:Liberalism is a manifestation of opportunism and conflicts fundamentally with Marxism. It is negative and objectively has the effect of helping the enemy; that is why the enemy welcomes its preservation in our midst. Such being its nature, there should be no place for it in the ranks of the revolution. at a time when Liberalis americanum somehow manages to threaten the existence of the entire human race through its own negligence and lack of conviction while also suffering its death throes and relinquishing all legitimate claim to power Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, 'Two Utopias', 1912 posted:Hence the striking, incredible weakness of the liberals in politics, their absolute impotence. Hence the endless series of equivocations, falsehoods, hypocrisies and cowardly evasions in the entire policy of the liberals, who have to play at democracy to win the support of the masses but at the same time are deeply anti-democratic, deeply hostile to the movement of the masses... in an era when four media conglomerates control 90% of every piece of entertainment an average person is likely to consume in their lifetime Antonio Gramsci, 'Newspapers and the Workers', 1916 posted:And so every day this same worker is able to personally see that the bourgeois newspapers tell even the simplest of facts in a way that favors the bourgeois class and damns the working class and its politics. it's time to take a baseball bat to the knees of a seminal piece of political media, one that defines SUCCin' and has shaped the perspective of an entire generation of comfortably milquetoast ~*CENTRIST*~ coastal elitists: THE WEST WING myself and fellow goon WampaLord are almost certianly not the right people to do this, but nobody else has jumped on this fuckin grenade so you know what maybe give us a listen and then post post post here making fun of our verbal tics and our lack of command of socialist theory. You do NOT need to have seen the West Wing to listen and enjoy our melodoisu General American baritones. Episode 0 - Introduction can be skipped if you don't have need of describing the show's basic premise, characters, and place in American cultural history! That's right! Don't listen! Episode 1 - "Pilot" is where we actually talk about things that Happen, In the show! Episode 2 - "Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc" oh no, my fallacies! ego detinentus sum??? Episode 3 - "A Proportional Response" is what is warranted for the death of an "American Hero" lol code:

Tara and Andrew Versus The Scarecrow Video Movie Guide Available on: iTunes / Google Play / Website / RSS Genre: Movie talk Duration: Around a half-hour, give or take Release: Every (other, for the time being) Tuesday What this? Seattle's Scarecrow Video is one of the longest-lasting independently run video stores in America, with over 120,000 different titles in their catalog, ranging from the mainstream to the incredibly eclectic and difficult to find. In this podcast my wife and I randomly select a movie that neither of us has seen before from the guide that they published back in 2004, watch it, do some research on it (when possible), and then discuss what we thought and learned. Episode 38 -- Nico and Dani I've been lax in posting the links to episodes as they've been coming out, but all of that changes now, maybe! In this episode we watch a Spanish coming of age drama that has way more mutual masturbation in it than either of us expected, we talk about and provide relatively useless live commentary for one of Kris Straub's "Local 58" videos, and we voice our support for bashing the fash. Fun! Social:
