A ticket came in. To update ACH information in really poor English referring to us as “customer” and referring to nonexistent due invoices. I asked the AP person to call the company to confirm. I hope that if it is real I don’t get blowback.

Hey yo ticket thread like, I know my job is all about outage resolution but there's been too many stupid fuckkin' outages going on today, I'd like it to stop please. Maybe start on a better note. Cisco, when we say "hey don't make any changes to this switch, we've got other active services on it" the correct response is not to start loving with the switch gosh hecking gently caress it. e: I work maybe 3-4 critical outages a week. I've done 4 today. "Hey we're doing a non-customer impacting maintenance to reboot this device" "Okay then why are customer impacted right this very second?" My business critical poo poo was while I was on holiday, they sent out the mailers for some event and the website certificate went down the same day. All of the people who received the mailer and actually checked the website was presented with a "THESE PEOPLE MAY NOT BE TRUSTWORTHY FLAG". I guess we're paying our web guy to do... what exactly? I mean I don't particularly work hard, I keep on top of my deadlines, but its a small shop. I can appreciate someone not being at gogogo levels 100%, but come on man this is literally one of your like 2 responsibility's you have even less to do than me! Why are you calling me on holiday to do your job! (Guy's been working with us for nigh on 30 years or so)

We had a developer in our team who had been with the department for 32 years. He couldn’t be arsed to do anything for the last five years and finally retired instead of waiting further for a redundancy (we were not going to give him one at £100k).

Well, everyone else involved said the email seems really fishy. I told my manager and the director about it. The person who originally got the email and I are doing Symantec full scans and they’re trying to reach out to the vendor by phone. This isn’t how I expected to spend the first half of today. Yes I know AV is worthless, but that’s what I’ve been told to do so I’m covering my rear end.

Do the headers look legit? Is it a new payment method for this vendor? We've seen some interesting stuff recently, the spoofers are getting better at some parts but still include lines like "Our CFO Mrs Lisa" with a Gmail address...

Make a list of all the stuff that seems out of place about it. Obviously the easy answer here is to contact the vendor and say "did you send this email requesting these things". Did the email come through the correct channels? If not maybe have them resend it. Is this vendor known for going around said channels for stuff like this? There's likely a non-technical pattern you can fit the whole situation into.

It’s from the name of the AR person using the company’s domain, but I don’t know if DMARC is set up and for all I know their small business may just have been hacked. It sounds like the kind of thing you would blast out to everyone in the client list. They also sent a W9, which would suggest either being legit or the latter. Our lead admin is going to take a look at the metadata. They also have an AR address and are just using an address with her name.

I had one of those moments during a doctor's appointment where we were trying to get some software working to read the data from my equipment (gently caress me, right? Can't go anywhere) and the doctor handed me a thumbdrive so I could give him a CSV of my treatment history. Internal pause, am I going to plug this stranger's thumbdrive into my laptop, ah gently caress it. Did briefly consider cloning it while I was at it but I don't wanna see that poo poo probably.

Last year I had a thumb drive that would cause OptiPlex 7010 and 7020 PCs to display a pattern of coloured stripes on screen, then turn off. Looked like the same pattern as the dell self-diagnostic thing. It would only happen on those models, and only on the front USB ports . It was one with that stupid spin mechanism that always start to fail after a few months of regular use. But usually they just start getting flakey connections instead of whatever that was.

Well, turns out the email was fraudulent. Our administrator team is looking at the metadata, the vendor is sending out emails to all of their customers warning them about emails like the ones we got, I sent in a report about it to my manager, guess it’s pretty much done at this point.

I saw an issue with a client earlier this morning where the 365 servers were complaining they were busy and to try sending that email again later. I'm entirely certain this isn't related.

Or the time I had to start yelling and arguing when I was trying to cancel my service after they lied to me both over the phone and in person and left me with a bill about $40 a month (plus an installation fee) more than had been agreed to over the phone. I had to say some variation of 'turn it off' or 'cancel my service' ten times before they did, and then said they could not give me any form of communication confirming it. Fortunately I did not keep getting billed.

Stupid question probably, but for an office of 5 people with no server and no need for local storage (OneDrive for Business is plenty), can Azure AD actually handle the laptop login/authentication portion? Or is it still just only used for Office 365 apps or whatever other broken half-assed poo poo you could use it for in the past? The client already has the Office 365 Business Premium tenant set up so I'm not really sure what's involved or even where to read up on it more.
