I think the Agent said it best when they were doing the Argcast he mentioned that 180+ mil over 6-7 years for a game of this scope really isn't that much. Some people have estimated they spend 2 mil per month. But that is really low and doesn't factor in any overhead, etc etc just salary. They want people to spend more. We're looking at 300-400 mil to get the game finished if ever.

It is low for a project with an undefined scope and never ending creep. :(

The major problem though is the lack of definition. You'll constantly make no progress because nothing fits together at the end of the day, so work never makes good headway. This is pretty much CIGs MO unfortunately. You need a plan, and you need smart people to keep everybody on plan.

However you won't fix the problem with more money. $400M won't create the game.

At the end of the day I'd settle for Freelancer 2.0 with procedurally generated planetary landings. The systems for Star Citizen already exist in Elite and No Man's Sky. Just mash that poo poo together, feature lock it, design your ships, and sell it. And it wouldn't be nearly as bad as whatever they are actually going to release is going to be.

This is basically all anybody ever really wanted.

Glad CIG so spectacularly missed the mark on something where all they really needed to do was give an already existing concept and idea a little graphics facelift and rebrand it.

39.6FPS

I seem to recall CIG performed stress testing by having everybody log in but not move. So they could do pretty good until people started moving.

So I'm not surprised they could do this, but I'd like to see what happened when everybody started moving. If they maintained a good 39 FPS that's great.

The downside to all this though is that this is 39 FPS in a in arena type game. It's not 39 FPS in an MMO. The MMO doesn't exist, and the longer they don't start working on it the more and more likely it becomes that it will never exist.

All those hopes and dreams of fleet actions in a twitch based Eve game... never gonna happen. Y'all spent $$$ on an arcade drop in drop out arena deathmatch game.

It definitely happened more in Quake but it was also definitely a thing in Doom.

Its largely a question of how many community doom deathmatch maps you played. The stock doom multiplayer maps were just the single player maps and they didn't have many telefragging opportunities.

I remember one level where you had to run and grab some armor that was over lava and then hit a teleporter or something... long time ago.

Good things about Star Citizen combat:

Your $700 ship can be one shotted by a single guy with a certain kind of weapon as you come in for a landing.

This is so the fun of griefing isn't going to only be relegated to ship to ship combat. Man to ship combat is just as deadly.

The Star Citizen experience is definitely going to be great.

Soon the video guy will be able to add in a screen of a respawn timer set for two weeks.

There will be comments from cighobo that say "it's not two real weeks, guys! It's two Jupiter moon weeks across the sun on the reverse clock of Pluto!"

And then there will be a thousand posts of "Yeah dumbass! You should feel dumb for posting this when obviously it's not a long wait timer!"

There will be more posts, but we won't cover those here because the police will need them as evidence against internet bullying charges and threats. :vd:

Telefrags in doom caused your guy to do the exploded death. You could also kill monsters that way so it was a fun mechanic to mess around with.

Fun is not something Chris knows about so don't expect fragging but do expect horrible twisted body horrors of a broken game.

There's something else about bears not many people know. If a bear gets hooked on the taste of crowdfunding, it becomes a man-killer. He'll go on a rampage and has to be destroyed. And that's why you should never hug a bear.
