I think the better way to say what I was saying is that sometimes when people are unaware of a thing or claiming ignorance of it, that doesn't necessarily point to any kind of malice or bigotry but rather it's just that the person involved is a bit sheltered or naive. But sometimes there are also people who internalize negative things because that what our culture does to us so you can't really fault them for not noticing.

Re-watched Sicario. Dia del Soldado really is an above-average DTV action movie that just happened to get a major release deal, it's kind of fascinating.

I think besides just seeing the dollar signs in general they also think they can reasonably pitch del Toro as a franchise anti-hero. Sicario wasn't overtly setting up a sequel, but it's open-ended enough that you could see the natural progression of diving deeper into the world of his and Brolin's characters, without the 'outsider' as a sort of audience surrogate this time. And with Soldado that's basically exactly the story they went with: repeat the formula where Alejandro is a periphery figure who slowly comes to define the narrative, and now put him in a situation where he has to defy orders.

I recently read that story that James Cameron supposedly ripped off when he made Terminator and other than "a guy fighting in a war comes here from the future" the stories have absolutely nothing in common.

There’s a meme making the rounds about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being from Yorktown Heights that’s really weirding me out because I was born and raised about 10 minutes away from there and the idea that it’s a massively wealthy suburb is hilarious to me. In reality there’s a few people with giant farms/estates, a handful of McMansions, and mostly mediocre houses. It’s solidly middle class, not really bougie or anything at all. Might be my favorite mbmbam bit, “I’m gonna kill myself with whiskey now” has crept into my vernacular

Like it's not a shack or anything, but it's definitely not a house I would look at and instantly think "oh yes this person is very well off"

The Usual Suspects relies so heavily on the twist, that the idea of rewatching it reminds me of rewatching Eye of the Beholder, it would just seem tedious.

Nah. I think a lot of people read the twist as "all of this was completely made up and nothing that we've seen is real", but I personally take it as "all of this was real but the events were twisted and distorted to fit the lie".
