I mean, I used to just use my pinkie when there was no pencil nearby, but I am guessing that that isn't an option.

Mraagvpeine posted:Huh, wasn't aware of that rule. Okay, I got another possible solution, but do we need to remove exactly 6 or can it be less than that? As for the triangle one, first remove the upper and lower middle matches, making 4 triangles. Then remove any one triangle to create 3 triangles. Yeah, it's kind of an implicit rule in matchstick puzzles that all matches should be part of the solution. We need to remove EXACTLY 6 matches. As for the triangle one, you're correct! This one's just the rotated version of your answer.

Alright, new solution for the square puzzle: First remove the 4 center matches; this should create 4 small squares. Then remove 2 inside matches of any one of those small squares and that leaves 3 small squares and one large square.

Music: Monochrome It's time. For a plot recap. Music: Easy Feeling Yo, Hyde! Didja figure stuff out and bust heads and all that cop stuff? C'mon, man, hit me! What's the deal with the tape? The tape was sent to Iris by a woman named Grace. Grace? Yo, I should know this Grace or what? She's Iris's sister. Iris has a SISTER? Seriously? Awwwwooooooooo!!! ...You're a moron, Louie. There's more. Grace is Melissa's mother. Pictured: Louie's slow realization of Grace's marital status. Aw, wait, man! That means... Yeah. Grace is actually Kevin's missing wife. Well, I'll be damned! You're some kinda cop, Officer Hyde! Apparently Kevin isn't much of a doctor, because he lost a big malpractice suit. Grace got the money to pay the thing off, but Kevin doesn't know how. Aw, TRIP, man! Sounds like dirty money to me! You and me both, brother. About six months ago, Grace up and vanished. That's the same time she sent the tape to Iris. Thing came with a letter that told her to sit tight until Christmas. If there was no word by then, Iris had to bring the thing here. Here, man? This hotel? She's supposed to give it to a man who paints angels. That don't make no sense, man. I know, but there it is. Yeah... There it is. Listen, I need you to take a buzz through the guest log from two years ago. Sure, man. I'll do my sneakin' around thing soon as Dunning takes off. You want I should check if Grace Woodward stayed here, right? Smart boy, Louie. If only my ma could see her Louis now! But first, we gott asettle something like men. ...Men who ROLL! You're on. Music: Monochrome We're then left alone in the room. After we get out... Psssst! Yo, over here, man! Not sure why that line is necessary since he's literally just a few steps from the door. You can even see the door in the map! Music: Easy Feeling You want to do this here, Louie? Aw, man, it's way more fun this way! C'mon! If you say so. Now let's get it on! Yep. We're actually doing this. In a hallway. I'm sure nothing can go wrong! That's...not really the kind of "wrong" I was referring to... So my statement still stands! Haw haw! Man, that the best ya can do?! Now it's MY turn. Watch this action! When playing this minigame, Louie's roll is determined by RNG. Usually he'll get 6 or 7. And also, Louie, why do you need 2 balls? Guess that's the way the ball rolls, huh? The first game's all mine. There's three rounds. The winner is the one who wins two rounds, so let's hope we do better in the next one. poo poo. Now it's MY turn. Watch this action! Not that it matters because...well...that. Guess that's the way the ball rolls, huh? That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Second game goes to ME! We lost two rounds. Technically the game still plays the third one but I'll skip it since we know the result already. You'll never win what with rolls like that! Once more? The bowling game will continue until Kyle manages to win. That's better. The trick to this one is to just roll it straight to the middle. Don't hold the ball too forward since it'll just make the ball go to the far right/left. Which is what happened with the previous attempts. Hey, not bad, Hyde. Now it's MY turn. Watch this action! As I said, pray to the RNG. First game goes to you. Now it's MY turn. Watch this action! You win the second game. Just to show that I won the first and second rounds but the game still goes to the third. Hey, not bad, Hyde. Now it's MY turn. Watch this action! The white flash has a breaking sound effect. That is why you don't play bowling in the hallway. Aw, man! Total bummer, man! OH NO! No, man! No, no, no, no, no... Man, that's Dunning's plant! Guy LOVES that stupid plant! Aw, man, he's gonna have my head for that! What have we here? Huh? This is... Tap key That a key? What's a key doin' in old man Dunning's plant? If Louie was the one we play as, this would've been a Game Over. Easy, Mama Sass! We're just having us a little chat. Don't "Mama Sass" ME, Louis DeNonno! You were playing that ridiculous bowling game again, weren't you? Aw, man... What? You thought it was a secret? You talk about it to everyone you meet! I'm sure even Mr. Smith knows by now! You should pray that he never catches you, or it'll be your job! It was supposed to be a secret?! Aw, c'mon, Rosa! Why ya gotta be Captain Hard-rear end all the time? Your fun is no concern of mine, Louis DeNonno! That's cold, Mama. Real cold. I don't have time for this! Mila is missing! Where is she? Have you seen her? Mila?! You lost Mila? I did not LOSE her, Mr. Hyde! She left my room and hasn't come back. I checked the lobby and the restaurant already... Oh, this is terrible... You seem pretty worried. There something I should know? ...Huh?! What? No! Nothing, just... Just trying to find her! Sure you are. I'm busy! I have to go! If you see Mila, tell her to go back to my room and wait! All right? Good! Rosa scuttles off down the hall. Hoo-wee! Sounds like they had themselves a fight or something, yeah? Something like that. Hey, man! We should help look for Mila! Ya know...just trying to be nice and all... I know why you're looking, Louie. And it's fine. It's fine as long as you don't treat her like a little girl, Louie. You take the first floor. I'll take the second. Gotcha! And Louie? Yeah? Keep this safe. What, the old key? See if you can find out what it goes to. Yessir, Officer! As you can see, there's shards near the pot now. The shards are even shown on the map screen. It's a nice little touch. If we talk to Louie again... I'll take the first floor, and you take the second.

Music: Monochrome Kyle says this when we get to the second floor. We aren't given any indication on where Mila actually is. Spoiler: She's not actually on the second floor. Knob Music: Big Dreams We haven't been to the roof for a while. We haven't heard this song for a while, too. The last one was in Chapter 4 with Iris (technically the end of Chapter 3, but we start Chapter 4 in here). Music: Secrets Mila. Tap Mila What's wrong? Just stargazing? It's cold. And that's not much of a coat. Rosa's looking for you. Something happen between you two? (No) Did Rosa say something to you? (Yes) I hand my notebook to Mila. Mila writes something in my notebook. ...? Music: Rainy Night Music: Secrets "Who are you looking for?" That's what Rosa said to you? (Yes) So she knows you're looking for your father, huh? (No) Guess you told her about that. (No) Wait, you didn't? I don't get it. Here. Write down what she told you. ...? Music: Rainy Night Music: Secrets Rosa knew your father? She said that? (Yes) (How the hell does Rosa know Mila's old man?) If Rosa is actually Grace in disguise with neither Melissa, Kevin, nor Iris recognizing her, someone else can finish this LP. Wind's getting chilly. And Rosa will murder me if you catch cold. Let's get you back to her room, OK? (Yes) Music: Big Dreams It's also been a while since we escorted someone. I think the last one was Louie back in Chapter 3. Music: Monochrome Knock Music: Straight Chaser Mila! Come in quickly, dear. Come on, come on! Music: Hangover Blues Where was she? On the roof. (Yes) What? Land sakes, no wonder she's cold! Poor thing will catch her death! Mila, you just sit and I'll make you some tea. And don't mind what I said earlier! You don't have a thing to worry about, dear. You got a second? What is it? I'm very busy. It won't take long. It's about Mila. Yes? Actually, I need to talk to both of you. Oh, all right! Go wait in the back room. OK? Good. I need to give Mila her tea first. We still can't examine Rosa's room, but this is the first time we see the map for it. It's MUCH better than Louie's. This room even has its own painting! Just wait! We'll come back in a second. All right. Music: Secrets Hey, you got a minute? (No) This door is basically the only thing we can examine in here. This leads to the back room. Music: Monochrome We CAN examine things in the back room, though, so let's do that. Music: Straight Chaser Bathtub Bathtub looks clean enough. Toilet It's a toilet, and that's all I need to know. Tissue Toilet paper. Can't have a toilet without toilet paper. Wouldn't be right. Towels Freshly laundered towels... One of the benefits of living in a hotel, I guess. You know, unless you're the one who have to launder them. Light There's a light above the mirror. Mirror I could use a shave. Bottles It's a bottle of shampoo. Sink Nothing in the sink. It's freshly cleaned, though. Shelf There's a shelf next to the bed. Window It's pitch black outside. I can't see a thing. Photo Bed This must be Rosa's bed. Picture There's a picture of some flowers on the wall. Calendar Hey, a colander. No, wait...that's a CALENDAR. Chair It's a wooden chair. Looks pretty worn. Desk There's a small desk in the corner of the room. Lamp It's a lamp. Shade looks familiar... Think I wore one like it as a hat once. Brochure There's an old, worn brochure on the desk. I'm gettin' tired of seeing these things... Upper frame Lower frame That's all we can examine and Rosa STILL hasn't come. Let's just ask her what took her so long.

New Music: Bright Crystal It's our first new music in a while! How's Mila? Oh, she drank some of my special honey tea and is feeling much better. Good. So what did you want to talk to me about? Hmm? Out with it! Hold on. I got a question about these pictures first. Oh, Mr. Hyde. Why were you looking at my pictures? I got a short attention span. So who are these folks? Those are pictures of me, Mr. Hyde! Pictures of... The bride, too? Of course! ...Oh. There's no need for words. Don't look so surprised, Mr. Hyde. I was young once, you know. Oh, I know. It's just... Just WHAT?! This is a bit awkward. I'll awkward YOU, Mr. Hyde! Out with it! I just thought she was a real good-looking dame. Nice save. Fifty Shades ruined this phrase for me... So you marrying your one true love there or what? Yes, I was. I thought I was the happiest girl in the world. Yeah, I bet. 'Course, everybody says that. Yes, but I was serious! I couldn't have been any happier to marry that man! Rosa, you never cease to amaze me. Your husband really that great? To me, he was! He was the best man I'd ever met. So what happened? I think he's on a boat somewhere. No kidding? Married a sailor, huh? I assume he's still a sailor! You assume? It's been quite some time since I've seen him, is all. Oh. That's a long time. No, now I'm sure that was it. I remember now, because it's when I started to work here. (...Guess it takes all kinds.) I doubt you really care about my husband, Mr. Hyde! I thought you had to ask me about Mila! Yeah, I do. Lemme get on that. Well! Out with it! How do you know about Mila? What? I don't understnad the question, Mr. Hyde! Music: Resolution She was thinking about something you said. So what did you say to her? I'm sure I don't know! Wait a minute. C'mon, Rosa. Don't lie. Rosa... Come on. Don't start lying to me now. I know you talked to her. And I know you asked who she's looking for. ...Wh-what?! And just how would you presume to know about that, hmmm? Mila told me. Oh, she told you? She told you! Miss Talkie just up and told you, is that it? She wrote it down in my notebook. Oh! ...Oh. Guess it's silly for me to try and hide it, then... How did you know she was looking for someone? You know something about her that the rest of us don't. And I need you to tell me. ...I don't know anything! C'mon, Rosa. Rosa... Come on, now. Rosa. We've been through a lot tonight, right? Helped each other? Had a few laughs? I'm not... I'm not hiding anything, Mr. Hyde. And I swear I don't know boo about that poor girl's father. Her father? What are you hiding? Please, Mr. Hyde! Music: On the Rocks Talk about the pamphlet. I think I know what's going on with the brochure. You were talking about... Considering that Rosa still has her normal response to Kyle's brochure, I'll say that it's not what she's talking about. Mila's brochure. You mean the brochure Mila was carrying. Yes, that's right. She got a ride from that terrible Angel boy in 213, remember? I think she showed it to him, and that's why he came here. What did the pamphlet tell you? What did that brochure tell you? Well, wee, I just figured that if she had that brochure with her... Then she must be looking for someone who stayed here a long time ago! Makes sense, right? Sure it does. Anyway, that's what I thought when I saw it. Talk about Mila's father. What about her father? You said you didn't know anything about him, right? Of course she does know about Mila's father! She said so herself! Or at least she think she knows. I'm still going to quit this LP if it turns out she's actually Grace in disguise and the husband in the picture is the one before Kevin. And the son is actually Melissa's half-brother. You DO know something! So you do know something? Probably! ...Probably? What's that supposed to mean? Well, it's just that if that girl is looking for her father... What did you remember? What did you remember? I can't tell you that! Come on, Rosa. I got you an autograph. I fetched wine labels. Trust me for once. I don't know... I don't have a secret agenda, Rosa. I just want to know what Mila was doing here by herself. And what her father was up to. That's all. Kyle: I just want to know what some people were up to. Like Mila. And Bradley. Possibly Alan and Grace too. And why? Huh? I want to set her free. And what does that mean? I know a little something about searching for people... I know it's hard. Not something a girl like her should have to face. When you find people that don't want to be found, you learn some hard truths. Mila knows that those truths are coming... But she can't stop looking. It'll hurt when she's done, but only for a bit. Then it's over and done with. But until she's just going to go on hurting. Talk about the promise. You made a promise, huh? I think I know who you made this promise to... I don't think it's going to be a stranger since we're already very late into the game. Someone I know. It's someone I know isn't it? Yes, as a matter of fact. The person trusted me. So what's your big secret? What's this secret, Rosa? What are you hiding that can help this girl? I can't tell you. I promised. Yeah, you said that. And I know you mean well. But the person who told you this secret? They told you because they trusted you. I suppose. Then maybe you can trust me in the same way. If it's something to do with Mila, I can help her. And I need you to trust me with it. I'll keep your name out of it. Music stops Oh, Mr. Hyde! I don't know what to do! Tell me what you know. I'll make sure it doesn't come back to you. Music: Insomnia Yes, I heard you before! Well, if it's really jsut so you can help Mila... I guess I can tell you. I like you , Mr. Hyde. And I do trust you, I guess. I like you too, Rosa. But you have to swear that you'll look for her father! You told her you would, so you have to promise! I will. Well, you see... It's about the old brochure that Mila was carrying. I knew as soon as I saw it. I knew... I had seen it before. Where? In Mr. Smith's room. His office? No, his personal quarters. He normally won't let anyone go in there! But he's such a lazy man, and he asked me to clean it once or twice. Having a professional maid clean your room once or twice within 5 years isn't a sign of laziness, Rosa. And anyway, that's how I saw the brochure. And once I saw that Mila had the same one, it all became clear as day! You want to fill me in? The poor girl must have been here a long time ago! Why do you think that? Because Dunning told me so, that's why! ...See, he only became the owner of this place some five years ago. And that brochure is much older than that, which made me curious. So I asked him about it a little while back. About where he got it. And he told me. And that's how he got the brochure. Wait... Dunning has a family? Well, I can't be sure about the details. He won't talk much about himself. But last year I told him a bit about my husband. And then he talked about his family. What did he tell you? But I think she lives pretty far away. A daughter... So that picture... That's right. I pretended not to know anything when you brought it up. But I think the girl in that picture is his daughter. Kyle has not brought up the picture in Dunning's room in this chapter. This is referring to the optional conversation with Rosa that I posted in the last alternate timeline update (or my last post if you read the forums and don't want to go back to that update). But something happened that has kept them apart for quite some time. So when I figured out that Mila was looking for someone... I instantly thought about Mr. Smith. That's why you told MIla that you knew her father? That's right! Oh, it just felt so perfect! But Mila just looked so sad, and then she left! I see. Mr. Hyde, you don't suppose that Dunning really is- No, he's not. Oh, dear... Mila's father is a gallery owner named Robert Evans. Oh, but I... I was so sure... Oh, heavens. This entire confrontation could be avoided if Rosa had thought about using her notebook to ask Mila who her father is. I opened my big mouth and spoke without knowing! That poor girl... Don't beat yourself up about it. How can I not? I mean... I... She... Well, now I'm just all kinds of confused! Why? About Dunning! I thought that was why he was upset when I took Mila in! And why he wouldn't get anywhere near her! So I guess... There must be something between them. Just not what I thought... Maybe so. You know what Mr. Smith said to me? And when I asked him if that was really the best thing to do? He couldn't even look me in the eye! It's actually even more impressive he thought of the police as a first response since he used the police as a very last resort against Jeff's "theft". Mr. Hyde, I'm just like you. I just want to help this poor girl. I'll do whatever I can. But you have to help her! I will. Music: Violet Sky But I need to know one more thing. Is there a painting of an angel in this hotel? An angel? Yeah. Wings, halo, little clouds. Angel. We know why Kyle's asking this (to know more about Iris' tape), but this must've come from nowhere in Rosa's point of view. No, not that I know of. Noticed those apple paintings throughout the LP? I pointed out the paintings in the later rooms not for nothing, you know. Yeah, I noticed that. Land sakes, those things are everywhere! Pictures of apples all over the hotel! Now, why anyone would need that many apple paintings is beyond me... Rosa, I don't care about apples. I care about the angel. Well, we don't have one. At least, I've never seen it. Just apples. (Again with the stupid apples. Can't sneeze without hitting one of those. There's even one in my room...) And just like that we're unceremoniously kicked out of the confrontation. No, it's not the case of continuing it later like Jeff's or Helen's. The confrontation is over, just like that. We can talk to Rosa again. I want to hear what you have to say. What? And then it brings us to the question screen. Guess we'll continue the chapter next update. Rosa's reactions: Read note What are you looking at? Write note What are you writing? Well. So far only Martin has special reaction to items during confrontations. 1234567890num fucked around with this message at 18:35 on Jul 6, 2018 |

Music: Secrets Don't worry. I'll find your father. (Yes) Music: Monochrome With nothing to do, let's go out. Music: Straight Chaser Phone Guess I should give Ed a call... Rachel? Go home. Seriously. I was going to, sweetie, but I'm worried about you. I'm fine. You're the one who has to go home at midnight. Aren't you sweet! But I'll just make Ed give me a ride. Anyway, he's right here. Tell me you got good news, Ed. Tell me about Gallery May and Robert Evans. I shook something loose. Looks like this gallery of yours closed down seven years ago. It...closed? Yeah. It was one of the older galleries in Santa Monica. Seems this Evans fellow inherited it from his grandfather. He was twenty-three when he got it, and that was back in 1933. Sounds like he had some success. That's what I hear. Art types say Evans had a good eye for rare stuff. Was real good at finding undiscovered works by famous painters. As a reminder, this is what the newspaper back in Chapter 4 says about Evans. American foremost modern art collection is coming to the Central Gallery. The collection features works by many bright young painters. The event promises to be fun for the whole family, and a great way to ring in 1980! Notice how it doesn't actually mention Gallery May. Only Evans Collections. He make any money? Plenty. When new art shows up from famous painters, folks pay attention. And then all of a sudden... Nothing. Gallery shuts down seven years ago. Why? Got no clue. When it closes, Evans does a runner and disappears. And he's been gone ever since? Music: Rainy Night Yeah. Real missing-persons type stuff. Hyde, you said his daughter was in that hotel? Think she's been looking for him this whole time? I don't know... I don't think so. I rang up some old friends in LAPD and asked about your case. They say no one in the family ever pressed for a full search. That's interesting. I looked into the Evans famliy, by the way. Wife Mary died in a plane crash in 1960. They had one daughter. Name'a Mila. I got a couple calls in to some other folks. I'll ring you if it pans out. Don't worry. Something pops up, I'll get you on the horn, pronto. (What the hell happened to him? In the restaurant No, that ain't it. She wasn't in the restaurant. In the lobby No, that ain't it. Mila wasn't in the lobby. On the roof Music: Midnight That's right. Kid was on the drat roof. Rosa said something about her father that upset her. Music: Play It Again Rosa told me that Dunning has a daughter. She thinks there's a connection between Mila and Dunning. But she doesn't have any real proof. When we were done, my pager went off and I called Ed. He had some info on Mila's old man, Robert Evans. Seems Evans took a powder after he closed down his art gallery. He went missing about... Six months ago No, that ain't it. Six months ago was when Melissa's mother Grace left. Two years ago No, that ain't it. Two years ago was when Kevin committed some medical error. Seven years ago Music: Midnight That's right. Evans went missing seven years ago. Even made the LAPD missing-persons list. Has Mila really been looking for him this whole time? Music: Play It Again Things are starting to come together, but I still got questions. Questions about Mila's father, Dunning's daughter, and some picture of an angel. The strands of this mystery are starting to fray. Music: Silent Moon I can see them getting rough around the edges. And Bradley? I think your story is the one thread I need to pull. The one that'll make the whole drat thing unravel. 1234567890num fucked around with this message at 17:10 on Jun 25, 2018 |

These little end of chapter summaries are usually bemoaned, but I'm actually grateful for them. With all this new information I had actually lost place of what was what, so I was pleasantly surprised to see these summaries helped me out for once. Good on you, Hotel Dusk.

Music: Same as previous updates (Sapu) This conversation goes exactly the same as before. If we try to examine the door... Music: Straight Chaser I'd better not barge in. That seems to get me in trouble. Nice pattern recognition. Too bad it's for something that doesn't matter. So let's talk to him and get our permission! Music: Easy Feeling So ya wanna put a fiver on the first game or what? Something's come up, Louie. Give me a few. What? Oh, man, but I was ready to ROLL! Just make it quick, yeah? Music: Sapu We don't actually need the envelope. Actually, if you don't pick it up now you won't be able to pick it up anymore. We still have to talk to Louie before entering his room, though. You don't need the ballpoint, either. You can't examine the room after Louie enters. It took me You can't press the pause button and there's no record button. The stop and rewind button just goes up immediately after pressed. So let's fast forward instead. Music: Straight Chaser Yo, Hyde. Louie. What's up? Learn anything? Huh? Ah! drat... Music: Drunken Waltz Aw, man... What're ya doin'? I screwed up. I told ya, my man! No rewindin' or fast forwardin'! Thing's busted! I thought you was listenin' to me, brother. What am I s'posed to do now? My music was all that kept me sane in this joint, yeah? Hey! Rewinding works just fine! Well not really since it doesn't work, but it doesn't break the tape! Music: Dream's End Great... Nice work, Hyde... Hyde went into his room and didn't come out until the next morning... Louie: 6 Jeff: 6 Dunning: 6 Rosa: 5 Martin: 4 Melissa: 2 Iris: 2 Helen: 1 Kevin: 1 gently caress it, I'm going to blame Iris for this one. I didn't blame Kyle since if I put it there it would be something like this: Kyle: 23 Jeff: 6 (Jeff is a jerk) Dunning: 2 (I just feel like it) Louie: 1 (Tattling first time we found him) Rosa: 1 (Wine label) Music: Sapu We have to ask this question and show the tape. The quit button here doesn't work. There's different dialogue if you quit before/after either asking the question or showing the tape. Let's move on to the confrontation. I don't follow you. Bring what here? The tape. The one that you refuse to return to me. I can't tell you any more, Mr. Hyde. That is everything I know about this whole affair. Loop and skip. You knew, didn't you? Cut the crap. I doubt you were with the guy for his sparkling conversation. I can't believe this is true... Fill me in. I got questions and I'm running out of time. Loop and skip. Let's talk about the plan. Grace is here. I think she plans to pick it up here. I don't think that's true. Let's talk about the doll. You wanted to steal it! You're going to steal it. You're wrong! Let's talk about Grace. It's about Kevin. You were going to ask her about Kevin. I told you, I only met him tonight. I couldn't possibly ask her about him. Music: Countdown Mr. Hyde? What? Your intuition is awful, and you haven't understood a single thing I said. ...Oh. You think you're bright and clever, but I don't think it's true. Please, I... I don't want to talk to you anymore. Just go. Huh? Music: Sunset Men I went back to Room 215. Why couldn't I figure out what Iris was trying to tell me? Hmm... She's right, Hyde. You couldn't find mud in a pigsty. Hell, I'll never find Bradley now. drat... Hyde went into his room and didn't come out until the next morning... Louie: 6 Jeff: 6 Dunning: 6 Rosa: 5 Martin: 4 Iris: 3 Melissa: 2 Helen: 1 Kevin: 1 Get any question wrong and you'll go into this Game Over.

This is one of those game where it's very easy to lose track of all the information. And they're contained to just 5 questions each chapter so it's not too long. Next update: bowling. And if I want to show Louie's one line of dialogue if the result was a tie then I have to pray for the RNG to give me that tie. We'll see how it goes.

Music: Same as previous updates (Sapu) Knock Louie, it's me. Door's open! C'mon in! As you may have guessed, this conversation is optional. We can just go in. Louie has a bunch of responses here. They trigger if: 1. Kyle hits <5 pins 2. Kyle hits >=5 pins 3. Louie hits <5 pins 4. Louie hits >=5 pins 5. Kyle wins 1st round 6. Louie wins 1st round 7. 1st round tie 8. Kyle wins 2nd round 9. Louie wins 2nd round 10. 2nd round tie 11. End of the 3rd round I already showed most of them. The ones I haven't shown are 3 (RNG hates me), 7, 10. I already showed this response, but look! I got a strike! That's number 7. That's number 10. It took a lot less time that I thought it would since Louie's roll is decided on your turn, so you can just view what his roll will be that round and reset if you didn't roll the same amount. Unfortunately, that means I have to lose various times to see number 3. At least if you get a tie you get a nice "T" on your scoreboard. It doesn't took that many games, at least. I get it immediately in the next game. For number 11 you have to lose twice. As in you just need to tie/win once to progress the game. And if you think I'm just padding this update, you're absolutely correct! The rest of the update can be summed up in this picture. You know, these middle-of-chapter alternate updates seems to be extremely short every time, so let's take a look at our notebook! Music: So Noted This is the numbers we got from the seven stars sidequest for the Pinkie Rabbit doll. And the name of the bar is Seven Stars. I see what you did there, Dunning. Still, it's strange that you can only access the final star if you're old enough to go to the bar but the prize is a doll from a cartoon. An old one, but still... At least the lipstick make more sense. Just imagine the children eagerly trying out the competition only to realize they can't go to the location of the final star... The 2nd and 3rd page are empty since I haven't written anything on them. Remember back when Melissa just name drops Grace and Kyle shuts her up, then 2 chapters later confront her about it? Wow, how time flies. We actually know this since Chapter 5. Again, if Rosa had just thought of using a notebook there wouldn't have been a misunderstanding and the confrontation with her wouldn't be necessary. At least we learned that Dunning has a daughter. Speaking of daughter, remember when Dunning said he wanted to "win" the lipstick? Even though he was the one who organized the whole event? It's probably for her. This is the note that causes Kyle to go after Kevin and Iris. And about the angel... We heard it somewhere, right? DariusLikewise posted:I'm guessing the pieces are starting to come together somehow, Jeff "Angel", Osterzone's painting "Angel opening a door", the angel doll Melissa had, what other Angel references am I missing? tomanton posted:Louie called Mila an angel, Melissa called her mom an angel. A bit superficial next to someone being killed over a painting, but references all the same! And the Angel room Helen got. You can probably guess which one Grace is actually referring to. The last page is the one from earlier so I'm just going to reuse the image. All I have to say about it is that Rosa shouldn't have been to cryptic to Mila. It's not as if it's a Kingdom Hearts game where Nomura hasn't actually thought about what those cryptic words mean!

Music: Same as previous updates (Sapu) We bring Mila to Rosa as before. We have to examine all 3 photos and then try to exit the room before Rosa will appear. Gruckles posted:Fun fact: Rosa's sailor husband is the boat captain from Cing's other DS game, Another Code: Two Memories. Good to know. I never played that game. I guess this is just trivia since this fact is pretty quickly dropped. The confrontation with her isn't even about herself! I don't believe you! You haven't spoken to her? Not at all? Not one little word? I haven't said a single thing to her! I'm just concerned about the poor girl, you see? Oh, I believe you, Rosa. But I think there's more to the story. Loop and skip. You think I'm an idiot?! You take me for a chump? Huh? Is that it? I'm an honest woman! Stop treating me like a criminal! Mr. Hyde, I don't have anything to tell you. I heard you the first time. But you didn't hear me. So let's try this again. Loop and skip. Talk about the pamphlet. My brochure. This brochure? The one I got when I checked into this dump? Not that one. Talk about Mila's father. You don't know squat! I don't think you know a thing about him. Well, I think I know more than you, and for a fact! No, you really don't. We've seen the end of the conversation and that you actually know nothing about Mila's father. Talk about the promise. A stranger. I bet it was someone I haven't met yet. I thought your intuition was better than this, Mr. Hyde. Music: Countdown Mr. Hyde? What? I can't believe that your intuition is so poor! There's a joke to be made here but I just can't seem to find it. I told you what I knew. I thought you could help. But you were just too darn thick to understand! Please leave, Mr. Hyde. Huh? Music: Sunset Men I went back to Room 215. Why couldn't I figure out what Rosa was trying to tell me? Hmm... Oh, that's what it was... Now I'll never find Bradley. drat... That night Hyde went into his room and stayed there until morning. To be fair, morning is only like 10 minutes away and Kyle did that anyway if we succeed with the confrontation. Louie: 6 Jeff: 6 Dunning: 6 Rosa: 6 Martin: 4 Iris: 3 Melissa: 2 Helen: 1 Kevin: 1 Again, you can get this game over by getting any choice wrong. It's been that way since Jeff with the exception of Helen. I actually got the Game Over for both Helen and Rosa since the Helen has the strange translation for the key choice and I figured out that it's all a misunderstanding and Rosa knew jack poo poo about Mila's father. Too bad that's not what the game wanted. Music: Sapu The rest of the chapter is the same. It's disappointing that Rachel doesn't have new dialogue this chapter. Next time: Chapter 9. We're nearing the end of the game.

Music: Monochrome (Rosa said there were five apple paintings.) So...what? Are we supposed to examine them? Music: Straight Chaser Painting There's a painting on the wall. It's a still life. Zoomed-in painting It's a painting of apples. O...kay? What am I supposed to do here? We can move it, but what are we supposed to find here? (It's actually in that GIF). Yeah... I'll just skip to the part where we found it. This is one of the most obscure part of the game. (There are other apple paintings besides this one...) So apparently we're apple hunting right now. Okay. Hotel Dusk is a great game, but it's not without its low points. Like this one. Kyle just examined apple paintings because...Rosa said there's many of them. To be fair, the apples are easy to find. This is the most hidden one and you HAVE to see this one to even get to this point of the game. Painting There's a painting on the floor. ...That's weird. Why is it there? The old photo is found behind this painting way back in Chapter 4. If you're wondering, there's no danger of someone seeing us going in and causing a Game Over this time. Zoomed-in painting It's a painting of apples. (There's still another apple painting.) The other two is seen when going up/down the stairs. Searching for the apples isn't hard. It's just knowing what to do that's hard. Painting There's a painting on the wall. It's a still life. The first apple painting you'd find is most likely the one in Room 215. And that's the one where the letter is hardest to find. Zoomed-in painting It's a painting of apples. This one might look hard to find, but it's actually the easiest. The corner is kind of the first place you'd most likely to look. (There's still another apple painting.) Mila was staring at this painting back in Chapter 3. Kyle mentioned the one in Room 215, so the one you aren't likely to see (if you didn't look at the top screen of the map) is the one in the 2nd floor hallway. Painting There's a still-life painting on the wall. Zoomed-in painting It's a painting of apples. This one is still easier than the first one even if it's exactly the same spot as that. The first one has a letter that can look like an actual stroke in the painting. (This is the fourth apple painting I've seen.) (I need to find one more...) (??? Where's the last apple painting? ???)<-- White Question You know, there's only a few places left we haven't entered: 1. Room 111 2. The room in the pantry 3. The back part of Dunning's room 4. Room 220 ?. Wine cellar (Why must you spoil things, Chapter 8 Summary?) So let's ask Rosa which one it is. Music: Easy Feeling Where you been, man? I been all over this place tryin' to track ya down! I finally found Mila down in Rosa's room. Looks like someone found her and led her there, yeah? Man, you shoulda said something! Made me waste all my time like that! I was looking for her too, ya know?! You were nowhere to be found. But still, Kyle didn't even think about Louie during that. Sorry. Naw, I get it. Just forgot all about ol'Louis again, yeah? No, I see what it is... Knock it off, Louie. I got some new info. 'Bout Mila? It's about her father. Seems her old man went missing seven years ago. Trip, man. That's a long time to be off the map. So, what Mila's been lookin' for her pops this whole time? Maybe. Something rough happened to her, but I don't know the full story. I have to poke around some more. Yeah, well check this. I got me some info, too! It's about that old key. (??? What's that key for? ???) Oh, and I also did that B&E that you wanted. To find out 'bout Melissa's ma. Looked up the guest book from two years back. (??? Was Grace here two years ago? ???) Music: Rainy Night Read note What're you lookin' at? Write note What're you writing? Where's the apple painting? Just point me to the apple painting. Wha-?! Those crappy things? Man, what you want to know about those for? Just a hunch I need to check. Rosa said there were five paintings. But I can only find four. Apples, huh? You sure you ain't been hittin' the bourbon again, Hyde? OK, lemme think... Ya got the second-floor hallway... Yeah, and your room, too! You remember that one? I saw those. There's also one in 217 and one at the end of the central hallway. Oh, right! Right... Yeah, lemme see... Naw, man, sorry. I dunno about the last one. What's the old key for? So what's that key for? It's the key for the booze cellar! And are you thinkin' what Louie's thinkin'?! Probably not. Guess I had to try, yeah? That's already spoiled by the summary for Chapter 8. It doesn't really matter though since it's actually told pretty soon and you're pretty unlikely to read it between that and the end of Chapter 8. Anyways, this is the one key old man Dunning never let me touch. Don't even keep a copy with those other keys what he keeps in the office. But, man... Hidin' it inside a PLANT? Never woulda guessed. What a trip. Yeah, it's odd. What's the story with Grace? So was Grace here two years ago? See, that's the thing, man... I dunno. Guest logs in the office only go back one year. I got no idea if he tossed the old ones or what. Gotcha. You said "Oh, and I also did that B&E that you wanted. To find out 'bout Melissa's ma. Looked up the guest book from two years back." Way to tease, Louie. Music: Easy Feeling So hey, Hyde? You gonna go scope out that booze cellar? Yeah. Well, just hurry up before Dunning finds out you have that key, dig? Listen, I gotta swing over to Seven Stars and close up shop. But come down to the cellar after one, dig? Got it. Why not now? After that, you wanna take a look at this? I picked it up a little while ago. What's this, Louie? I dunno, man. Like I told you, I just found it when we were looking for Mila. It was lyin' on the stairs. What's on it? I ain't had a chance to listen to it, man. Guess I'd better. You can use the box in my room. If it's disco, just burn that crap, yeah? All right. Well, I'd better get my hump back to the bar. That bit only shows up on New Game +. In NG Louie never found the second tape. It's part of a sidequest only available for NG+. Music: Hangover Blues I'm... I'm going, Mr. Smith! I'm on my way! Then get to it! Thought I could trust ya with watchin' my bar! Don't make me regret it! Yessir! I'm going! Louie runs down the hall. drat kid. Gotta whole lotta learnin' to do... I'm sorry ya had to hear all that, Mr. Hyde! Don't worry about me. Kyle: I often did that to him myself. Well, ain't ya just a big sweetheart. But tell me somethin', Mr. Hyde. Why ya talkin t'Louie at this hour, anyhow? Just bored. That so? Well, all right then. S'cuse me... Dunning stomps off down the hall. Music: Monochrome Now that the other staffs are gone, let's talk to Rosa. We'll deal with the tape later. Knock Well, Mr. Hyde, what can I do for you? You got a minute? Of course. Music: Secrets Hey, you got a minute? (No) Music: Hangover Blues Have you learned anything about Mila's father? Huh? Well, have you? Rosa, it's been about twenty minutes. I'm good, but not that good. Kyle: (Actually I just have to wait for Ed to give me the information. I didn't investigate Robert Evans myself.) Really, the only thing Kyle found out himself about him is his name and job (and daughter). Oh! Oh, yes. I suppose not. Well, I guess you'll just have to put on your sleuthing cap! But I may have one thing. Yes? Mila's father is a guy named Robert Evans. Robert Evans? Robert Evans! Oh my goodness! Oh my stars! Easy, Rosa. I take it you've heard of him? No, I'm just excited. Oh. Way to tease, Rosa. What next, is Dunning going to tease us with information right before immediately handing out a Game Over? So your father's name is Robert Evans, is it, Mila? (Yes) I wonder where he could be. Never you fret, Mila honey! Mr. Hyde is going to find him for you! Right, Mr. Hyde? Sure... Rosa is great. Music: Rainy Night Read note What are you looking at? Write note What are you writing? Where's the apple painting? Listen, where are those apple paintings you were talking about? You said there were five, right? That's right. Are there really five? For a fact! This hotel isn't that big, you know! And I've counted them many times! Those paintings have been here as long as I have. I guess you saw how each painting has a different number of apples? Well, I was sure that had some kind of meaning, but darned if I know it! I tried asking Mr. Smith about it once, but that man is just useless. "Who knows," he told me I bet HE knows, the old coot! I don't know about that, but I did learn something else. There's a hidden letter in each painting. Letters? Goodness, me! I think those letters mean something. That's why I need to know where all the paintings are hung. I see. Well, there are three on the second floro and two on the first floor. Right? Wait, there are TWO on the first floor? Of course! There's the one in the hallway and then... Oh, but you wouldn't know... You wouldn't know about the one in the special room! (??? What's the special room? ???) You have a special room? OK, I'm curious. What's the special room? It's at the back of the lobby. It's the only room like it in the entire hotel. And that's where the fifth painting is? That's right! It says Room 111 on the door. Music: Hangover Blues Can you get me into Room 111? So you can see the apple painting. Is that it? Well... I suppose so. All right. But only for Mila! Oh, and because I'm a little curious, too! Thanks. I'm going to have to sneak the key away from Mr. Smith! Once I do that, I"ll go into Room 111 and wait for you. Then you can just slip in later. OK? Good! Got it. Mila is counting on you to figure this all out! So don't mess it up! And for mercy's sake, don't let Dunning know about any of this! Sneak around! Rosa sneaks off down the hall. OK... Mila... All right, all right. Don't look at me like that. (I'll just wait until I know what's what with those paintings.) You coming along for the ride? (Yes) Music: Monochrome As you can see, we're escorting Mila now. But more importantly we can finally examine this part of Rosa's room! Music: Straight Chaser Cabinet Got herself a nice, big china cabinet. Dishes Hey, dishes. Rosa's not as neat as I thought. Fridge It's just your average refrigerator. Wonder if she's got any cheese. Painting It's a painting of some sunflowers. Right sofa A red couch. At least all of her upholstery matches. Paper There's a crossword puzzle on the table. Man, i hate those things. Big table It's a big table. Small table She's got a little side table in the corner of the room. Vase There are some flowers in the vase. Left sofa It's a big chair with red upholstery. TV It's a TV. I bet she watches soap operas. Lamp That's quite a tall lamp. Shelf Rosa's got herself a built-in bookshelf. Left frame It's a picture of a young woman. Probably Rosa but Kyle doesn't recognize her. Right frame It's a picture of Rosa and some guy. Top books It's a bunch of cookbooks. Upper left books She's got some books on fortune-telling. Upper right books Rosa sure has a lot of cookbooks. Lower books Books on language, huh? When's she find time to study? Bottom left books Law books? Wonder if Rosa's planning on going back to school. Bottom right books None of these books mean much to me. Music: Monochrome Now let's go to Room 111. Hyde! Music: Drunken Waltz Where do ya think yer takin' Mila? Don't ya know what time it is? I left my watch at home. There's somethin' shifty 'bout ya, mister, and I don't like it! No sir! Pullin' a young gal like Mila 'round a hotel in the middle of the night... I don't need creeps like ya in my place, and ya better not be here come sunrise! Hit the road, ya creep! Getting mistaken for a pedophile is not a thing I expected to happen in this game. Huh? Music: Dream's End (Nice job, Hyde. Guess I should have listened to Rosa...) ...drat. Dunning: 7 Louie: 6 Jeff: 6 Rosa: 6 Martin: 4 Iris: 3 Melissa: 2 Helen: 1 Kevin: 1 This Game Over is kind of bullshit. I mean, yeah, Rosa told you to avoid Dunning and you last talked to him in the lobby, but come on! He left after that conversation! How am I supposed to know he's back there?
