as someone fluent in both, it's about the same, though ASL has a lot more room to express/exaggerate/alter signs -- though I suspect English has about the same amount of expressiveness, it's just conveyed via tone and emphasis which I don't really have access to

I think the vocal in the Deaf community needs to relax a little bit about them. The community is predicated on the language, not whether or not you can actually hear or not -- though I do recognize (and deeply appreciate, considering I'm deaf myself) that the shared experience of being deaf in a hearing world helps with connecting with each other
