Well, this is oddly relevant to our recent discussion. Very cool. Yu-No was a really influential game, though it's also pretty flawed. It is extremely mid '90s anime, and the creator was horny as hell and it shows. Will be interesting to see how people react. Though the remake ditches the mid '90s art style (with excellently done art for the time, like all games from that dev) for a generic modern anime art style, which is kinda disappointing.

How far am I through Alternative if I just started the assault on the original hive? Seems like I've been reading it forever... Also are there any different endings or anything or is it just a straight shot the end? I kind of hope not because I can't even remember the last time I had to make a choice about anything lol.

Also, don't confuse the subtitle "A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World" with "The Girl Who Keeps Singing at the End of the World", which is the subtitle to Ar Tonelico, which is a different game. That would just be embarrassing.

The visuals speak to a more typical presentation than ZTD's really awkward budget cinematic style imo, so I'm optimistic about something without any franchise baggage.

I started Umineko (with the PS3 sprites/art/voice mod). I don't have much to say, EXCEPT for the fact I really like this idea of different styles of suits/dresses with this family logo on them in different stylish places.

I can't imagine the kind of people who license VNs would see it as an issue, especially since it's presumably toned down in the console versions.

To give it the slimmest benefit of the doubt, this is a release of a newer version that came out last year on the PS4 and as such would have to be all-ages. I can only assume it could/would/should get some rewrites for large swaths of its content.

Hell they'd probably slam it on the cover if they could. In all seriousness though, much worse stuff than YU-NO gets localized all the time these days and at the end of the day it's still one of the most popular and highly-rated VNs ever. I told you how much the author's horniness shows, lol. I found that twist unsettling, but maybe I'm broken because "unsettled" is about all I felt by it, not repulsed or anything. I don't think it's the kind of thing that would ever prevent localization. But for real, the original version of this game was a '90s eroge, and it seems like there was a competition among eroge devs at the time to see who can be the edgiest. I'm not a big fan of the remake's art, music, and voices, but YU-NO will be immensely improved by leaving those terrible eroge elements behind (though the spoiler in question will likely remain). The Japanese console version came with an all-ages replica of the PC98 version too. I'll be very happy if the English release has that. Finally finished Muv Luv Alternative, I took a look back at the spoilers from a couple of pages ago and in general agree with pretty much everything that was said. It was definitely at its strongest early on and the double (or triple or) gut punches of Marimo's death and the return to the 'real' world was amazingly well done, but after that it just became endless numbing fights and introducing people just so they could have a noble death and lost whatever heart I felt it had up to that point. The awful stuff with Sumika also didn't help in that regard. I also didn't like how the core cast basically got sidelined so they could kill off some other named characters instead so they could still be there to die in the finale. I still found it an enjoyable enough action sci-fi thing but I didn't love it like Unlimited. I'll somewhat disagree on the ending though while it could have been done more subtly than 'and everyone comes in for a giant party' I feel like the tone shift was required to show what Takueru had finally regained through his actions and I also feel like there was no way he would have reintegrated properly if he hadn't at least partly lost his memories and gone back to how he was before. Maybe it's just a cop out I dunno but I didn't hate it. Anyway that's more words than I've written on pretty much anything for years so.

Yeah its interesting that that seems to be a common sentiment among several of us who read Alternative for the first time within the last year or so. It really makes those "LOL SKIP EXTRA AND UNLIMITED AND GO STRAIGHT INTO ALTERNATIVE" people kind of even more baffling to me too.
