Rip Adrian, the original drummer. Mirror reaper is all about him and his passing, and dylon and jesse’s coming to terms with it. Beautiful intense show.

I didn't know that was the backstory until someone else said that in this thread, and it really makes sense now. I may give the album a run through tomorrow again with that in mind, and see if it sits any differently.

I have the feeling that it'll wind up kind of like how I feel about Julie Christmas' music where I can't really say I strictly enjoy it but I'm captivated by it.

I don't think the album lives up to the hype (or its cover art) but I also never was able to get into funeral doom.

Also I realized today that their name spoonerizes to Well Bitch and I think that's an even better band name.

Yeah about 45 minutes of Mirror Reaper is what I think it was, but it was such an exhausting set that I can really only guess it was about that long. Like I said right after the show it felt like hearing a song end for the entire set and it is a weird feeling.

In my head I now class them as an "experience" band, kind of like I imagine Sunn to be. I've been to hundreds of shows at this point in my life and I have definitely never come across that before.

Just saw them and yeah they're definitely an "experience" band. I never really looked into them much beforehand and was blown away that it's just a dude with a 6 string bass and a drummer. The bassist is hitting these absolutely massive chords where I swear there are points he's got all 10 fingers on the fretboard. The drummer's vocals were also terrifying at times. For me the show kinda alternated between feelings of overwhelming awe and mind numbing boringness where I fully checked out of reality. Not sure if I'd be into their recorded stuff, but the live act was really interesting.

And Yob ruled. The Screen was probably the highlight for me.

They begin again

Mirror Reaper is an album that grows on me every time I listen to it and I’ve never even gone start to finish with it. Sometimes it gives me a similar feeling as listening to Watching From A Distance. I don’t always want that as it’s a bit heavy mentally but it’s certainly something special.

Only 80s kids will get this.

Bell Witch is nice to listen to alone, in the dark, when you can just sit and let the music envelope you. Kinda like Sunn O))). I want to go into one of those isolation pods and play some weirder stuff like that.

I'd listen to a Bongripper cover album where they just do like 4 soft rock/pop songs over the course of 90 minutes.

I bet they'd do a killer version of Yellow.

I’m really obsessed with Mirror Reaper right now. What else hits a similar mood? That lay back relax every muscle in your body and just sink into the thick layers of music feeling. The album conjures up so many images and such in my head. I don’t get that too often.

Have you heard any Ommadon? Might do it for you. Other chances: Jupiterian, Leechfeast, and Broughton's Rules (their first album only, unfortunately).
