Question for the Americans: Does the second amendment extent to stuff like (riot) shields and helmets? Because I'm kinda surprised that those nazi protestors don't get immediately busted for turing up in that kind of gear.

You can legally own tanks and rocket launchers, who would give a gently caress about helmets?

There’s only a couple states that even have restrictions on vests and those are mainly against felons having them.

And I mean that seems the most harmless thing in a nation that already lets people concealed carry. There's no body armor you can get that is going to do much against serious assault. Like even things that are resistant to pistol fire are only resistant to so much pistol fire. If a bunch of cops show up with Glocks and start mag dumping you are still done. The only thing that full body armor covering everything you can buys you is a few more seconds against the guys with pistols, maybe, if they are far enough away. A dude at 10 feet with a shotgun basically puts you down, the end, not matter what armor you have. It's good, it's much better than nothing, but it's not magic. You can't cheat physics.

Ceramic/steel plate body armor is fairly widely available though heavy and bulky. Soft body armor (eg kevlar) won't stand up to much but you can get AR500 plates for less than $100 a pop and level 3 is good for up to .308 ball. I was thinking about it more in the context of marches/riots. Around here we do not permit people to wear stuff like helmets, shields or vests on protests, because it makes it harder to enforce against them and enables people to fight other protestors more effectively.

full on level 3+ armor will definitely save your rear end but you'll probably be going to the hospital with every bone broken in your body but yeah theres almost no restrictions on armor its not even really all that expensive
