I may never know for sure, but I just get that feeling with watching how he acts and how he looks. Maybe that's natural for him though I don't know. The Chris/drugs thing has long been a meme without a source. The CIG LA workplace does seem to have been pretty lax about illicit substances though. If you can shoot a segment of ATV totally baked with weed right out on your desk, and neither interview subject, nor editor, nor cameraperson says “oh hell no”, it at least suggests Chris & Sandi ran a very chillax shop.

Virtual Captain posted:I may be alone in this line of thought but the "playable" hangar module was a huge mistake in my opinion. It celebrated and rewarded CIG for endless asset polishing and immediately set them off in an unrecoverable direction in terms of their vehicle functionality. Looking at Star Citizen from a purely technical standpoint, I think this was the original "cart before the horse" moment. No, you are not alone. I very much agree. The hangar module would have been fine if this was the core game play loop for the intended end-result: Walk around sci-fi interiors and look at things. Arena Commander is more like what I was talking about. Getting the Space Opera/WW2 dog-fighting game up and running. This is where they should have left the game until they had a good flight model and good core game-play. That's of course under the assumption that they were making a space fighter game, with multiplayer elements, and not an MMO. This was doomed from the moment they put the MMO scope into the kickstarter pitch. MMOs cannot be built iteratively in this fashion. Certainly not from a tech demo, but even with a properly designed first iteration, they'd run into scalability and architectural issues. Not to mention that CryEngine is an exceptionally poor choice of engine for an MMO. That's why I think they did a hilarious combination of right and wrong. They did right in the sense of getting something playable out there - but they did horribly wrong by building it on a tech demo and trying to make this into an MMO.

Certainly not from a tech demo, but even with a properly designed first iteration, they'd run into scalability and architectural issues. Well, I mean, they can, kinda. A lot of what goes into building an MMO can be done iteratively. But it's an amazingly poor start to commit as hard as they did to a networking model that cannot be iterated into something that will be suitable for an MMO; not only did it set bad expectations for what was possible with the engine, it seemed to calcify the idea that there was nothing wrong with CryEngine's networking model and that it was clear sailing from there. PederP posted:Not to mention that CryEngine is an exceptionally poor choice of engine for an MMO. Boy is it ever. It's not the first time someone has tried, though (no thanks to the networking model, which was tossed immediately). CryTek were awfully eager to have an MMO under their belt at the time... I can't help but wonder if they buddied up so hard with Chris because the relative failure of that one still stung and they were a bit desperate for a second chance.

What kind of motivational tapes or other self motivational material do you think Chris is in to? He’s in Hollywood and that’s a hotbed of magical thinking, Scientology, The Secret and other brain hacks to keep you pushing for your dreams until your ship comes in. I bet (especially in the dark years before the Kickstarter) Chris had to do something to keep him going.
