It's a soft transition until we can hire and educate another trainer. And even then I'll be handling the more "strategically important" customers. I figure I'll probably be going down to half-time trainer until at least the new year. Still an improvement and honestly I did a good job of making that server reasonably portable.

Only my loving god.

Since you are doing it for work and always on the road, can you just use slap everything into a pelican with that special anti shock foam and just use commercial services?

Carrying a work related server everywhere you go? Oooof.

I’m thinking of touring musicians where their stuff is insured and separately packed and all when they are on the road

They're already in a pelican case. These things have to get from one job site on Friday evening to another on Monday morning. I've done it but it costs $1500+ each time I ship it. And not all customers will allow shipments so I'd have to pick it up from UPS.

gently caress checked baggage. Unfortunately, I usually need to check baggage whenever I'm doing training with our partners because I have a little training kit I have to bring with me. But it's super annoying to wait around another 35 minutes for your baggage after a long international flight.

Don’t need commercial services. Depends on the size of the server but a custom made road case is easily checked. The fact ups charged $1500, unless he was next day airing it across the country and insuring it for 10k+, makes it
seem either real heavy or awkwardly sized. If it’s rackmount it should be no problem.

Again depends on size but overweight/dimensions would probably be a $250 charge?

Most musicians have a set of gear that they fly with even if the rest of the backline is rented/trucked/flown/advanced with a B rig. Usually there’s something that as big as a hard case with a server inside.

It's next day air yeah. I might be packing up from a training in Boston on Friday and giving a training in LA on Monday.

Similar set up for me. Four cameras, one server, one large switch, four small switches, and a bunch of cables. It goes in a knockoff pelican case. It comes in at just under 47 lbs (21 kg). It has wheels and is about as difficult to move as any roller bag. We used to have two of them per trip. One would go via FedEx, one would go via checked luggage. In my department, our general experience was that FedEx was way more likely to gently caress up the shipping than the airlines were. We recently had a hardware refresh that let us drop down to just one case thankfully.

It's one of American's biggest hubs, so you're dealing with both a large local population with status as well as everyone else with status who's transiting through. I'm Platinum Pro (will be hitting executive after this first flight) with 40k rotating EQDs and I'm 15th on the upgrade list.

I've had a lot of success getting domestic and international upgrades through ORD and MIA. I'm guessing PHL is a good one for European upgrades.

They're never going to hire and/or educate that other trainer, after a few months of you filling both roles they'll "suddenly realize" that you can do both, and you just got a sweet pay bump anyway so why are you complaining? I lurk for the killhour saga.

Let me guess, you qualify plat pro on segments with a lot of flights on American Eagle? Or you’re doing short international flights to Central America in business? That is an incredibly high rotating EQD

I fly a lot of short-notice long-haul international flights, some of which are business class or premium economy (only when the customer or partner is paying, though), so they're expensive as hell in some cases.

With the SPG/Marriott rewards program merger in august, how will the platinum tier work out for this year? I won’t qualify as SPG plat by August 1st, but will my Marriott and SPG stays throughout the rest of the year be combined for elite status?

I’m Pro as well (with like 10k EQD) and have gotten upgraded through DFW about a fourth or a third of the time. But I don’t fly consultant peak times.

I get upgraded pretty regularly on leisure routes or Eagle routes through DFW. Never even sniffed an upgrade on DFW to LGA.

Yep - I’m at 46 SPG nights and 20 Marriott nights and my understanding is that come Aug 1 those will just be combined into total nights across all properties.

Re: DFW - I also rarely get upgraded through there, but I’m going to ABQ through DFW tomorrow, returning Friday and was upgraded on 3/4 legs at the 100 hour exec plat window, so I am happy. I have to go to Shreveport, LA in a couple weeks, we’ll see if lightning can strike twice

Do I have to set up my National account to give me rental credits/airline miles? It looks like it’s defaulted to airline miles. I assume if I don’t choose rental credits, I won’t receive free rentals with National, correct? Hertz just gave me points that I could use towards future rentals.

What it lacks in substance, it makes up for in pretty colors

Yes, you can choose either rental credits or airline miles as your benefit in your account settings.

In related news, IAH was completely out of rental cars tonight at 9pm, so despite my Emerald status and existing reservation, I’m now taking a Lyft 90 miles so I can get to my work location in bumfuck Texas in time for tomorrow morning. Here’s hoping National will actually reimburse me like they promised.

If there's an event or a bunch of cancelled flights cars get scarce. I've been at both Austin and Dulles when nobody had cars available due to storms canceling flights.

Happened to me too at CLT last year when an ATC tower in DC was evacuated due to a nearby construction goof and caused ground stops all over the east coast.

Sorry if it’s kind of late , do you guys have much experience filing for travel insurance?

My credit card offers complimentary travel insurance and the terms seem to be really easy to understand.

4 hours plus delay I get to reimburse 500 usd for the calendar year

Cancelled flight is similar but they include hotels

Lost or delayed 6 hours plus for suit case I can claim 500 usd for clothes if the suitcase destination is not my residential country. I can claim more if the suit case is lost.

You guys have a similar policy?

It's easier when they put you on the DNR.

But they all suck in their own special way depending on where you are.

Can someone explain why Hertz is always 5-6x more expensive than the rest? Like outlandishly so.
