The closest thing to a coherent argument defending Crowley that I've seen is that him running for another race would involve spoiling that race instead, but I find that extremely doubtful. He benefits from name recognition in the case of the current race, which actually makes him a threat as a spoiler (though AOC will still probably be fine), but that wouldn't be the case for other races. And it certainly wouldn't be "election fraud" (I imagine he was flat-out ignoring the "run in another race" thing when he said that, since there's no defense on that front).
