I can't tell on the new appstore, but that's universal right?

EDIT: Nevermind, requires IOS 9. My ipad is stuck on 8.

I used to use Comic Zeal but the version I had seems to have been completely removed from the app store and even under my purchased tab it doesn't exist. Damnit.

Not much of a deal, but they extended the 5$ first month offer for a week after it was originally expiring (code 042718). Just be aware it'll auto-renew you at $9.99 a month.

My digital DC backlog is huge, so I'd only buy in if they had some premium tier for new releases.
I am curious about the Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing shows, though. Hopefully they go to other available services outside of the US.

It starts great, a ways in there’s a membership shakeup in an attempt to keep the book from being cancelled and it’s a little mediocre, then it goes out on an optimistic ending.

And then Avengers Arena kills one of them off right at the beginning and features some of the others acting totally out of character.

Avatar Press sale. Currently reading the Uber series. Also going to pick up Black Summer for some laughs I guess?

The Avatar comic I read is Cinema Purgatorio, which is an anthology series with serialized stories from Alan Moore, Kieron Gillen, Garth Ennis and more. I recommend that.

edit: Especially with the price going from $7 to $2 per issue.

The Civil War but with Giant Ants and Code Pru dont really do it for me, which is the only downside of Cinema Purgatorio.

Uber and Uber invasions are really good stories. Absolutely brutal throughout the whole thing but the narration plus how the story has escalated and changed as it’s benign told has really clicked with me.

I like Code Pru but think the Kaiju story is just ok, and agree on the giant ants but I do like the very brief history lesson included, so consider this as another recommendation for Cinema since you'll probably get something out of it.

Moore's story I find really interesting and Gillen's Mad Max Pokemon is super... Something.

I've been reading the first few issues of that lately and...it is quite heavy stuff, to say the least, but Gillen is good at writing villains and approaches the subject matter with the right mindset. The violence feels horrific rather than glorified and makes a point rather than becoming gratuitous. If you're going to do a book like this, that's the best angle. I also enjoy reading his creator commentary after each issue.

I don't think Cinema Purgatorio is worth $7. At $2 it's worth a try for an issue to see if you like it before picking up the rest of it, but I would not recommend blind buying the whole series just to take advantage of the sale. Nothing in it is great. It really feels like Alan Moore guest editing 2000 AD, only without a solid serial like Judge Dredd or Nikolai Dante to anchor it. It's all very slight. Sometimes the Moore stories are pretty good, but sometimes they're just embarrassing, like the month he decided to play Hollywood Babylon with DC's corporate history. Before I dropped it, I was basically reading it for Gillen's Pokemon serial and on the off chance that the Moore/O'Neill feature was good that month; otherwise Code Pru is an adequately entertaining Ennis feature, and the other two serials are a waste of time, in my opinion.

As far as other Avatar stuff in the sale goes, Si Spurrier's Crossed: Wish You Were Here is the one thing I really enjoyed and would recommend. That's not a recommendation to investigate any other Crossed series.

Image has a buy one get one sale with the code Image. Picked up the latest East of West volume alongside Lake of Fire, which I’ve been wanting for a long time. Also there’s a delcourt sale which has some fun stuff in it but I really need to read up on some of these books because the art in some is outstanding.

Just another Friday dropping over 50 bucks in comics.
