Remember when we were talking about how many Zappa's band members have rape and other unsavory criminal backgrounds? Buying broken poo poo you don't need with the intent of fixing it and keeping it "because it looks cool" That Fender Excelsior I posted about had at least two issues preventing consistent and correct operation, one being the heater leads coming off the power tubes heading to the preamp were disconnected thanks to lovely factory soldering (thanks RoHS), the other being one of the two half-wave outputs off the rectifier block was open circuit inside the 270ohm/7.5 watt part. Entertainingly enough, even with good parts installed, the resistors are passing so much current, they're at 246C in normal operation... Hence the schematic and test points. Oh, the trem circuit still thumps and distorts, but indications are poor tube matching can still cause that. Fortunately, I already ordered the semiconductor involved in case that part of the test shows it as bad, and also fortunately, if everything else checks out as within spec, I will be remote-mounting either a pair of 10-watt heatsink-equipped resistors, or seriesing up some lower-value 7.5 watt parts.
