Somebody once said that if you have a last name like Smith, the only way you're gonna be famous is if you have a unique first name.

I, uh, I don't know what they expected, but I don't think it was this.

Will Smith is mega famous and he's just Will. Even Jaden and Willow have normal-sounding names even when they are named after the opposite-sex parent.

On the other hand, Kevin Smith's daughter is Harley Quinn.

Surprised no Mario or Jennifer there, despite a Jenny.

Woman charged with kidnapping two men in Murray County, blowtorch used

You might think I intended this for the weird news headline thread.

However, this is a story that keeps on giving, beginning with our suspect.

quote:

The caller said a man named James Hampton was being held "against his will" by a woman named Tapanga, who was Tapanga Summerrain Slaton.

His parents were first generation immigrants from Thailand and I guess wanted to name him something really American without knowing the language well if at all

He hated it and literally just wanted people to call him Asian as a nickname

RuPaul's Drag Race alum Jujubee's birth name is Airline Inthyrath. His parents were recent immigrants who didn't speak English and just picked a word they saw upon arriving in the US.

I think I told this story before, but a thick Greek accent is why my grandmother was legally named Mary Apple until she was an adult. The nurse couldn't understand my great grandfather and either did her best or was a complete rear end in a top hat.

I knew a Kenneth Kenichi ((Lastname)) in high school. He was half Japanese, so I guess his parents wanted to give him a Japanese name and a western name? Not sure why they'd pick something so similar, though. I knew several other half Japanese kids and they all had western first names and Japanese middle names that made sense, but this poor guy got to be Ken-ken. And you bet that was his loving nickname as soon as any of us found out.
