Kinda of a related funny story, I moved to Cleveland, OH from uber-podunk SW Ohio in 1985, to seek fame and fortune. I had just walked out of a job interview at a company on Superior Ave. in Cleveland, just a 100 or so yards away from where the Sohio Building (... at that time. It was later called the BP Building after BP's Sohio buyout, and now the Huntington building, but I still call it the BP building). Weirdly, standing on the street, smoking a cigarette, I run into a HS friend who had just graduated with me four years earlier. While laughing and talking, I was watching the final construction on the skyscraper out of the corner of my eye, because, gently caress I've never seen anything like this before. They were hauling huge granite slabs with a roof mounted crane, up about 3/4 of the building's height, and somehow attaching them to the outside. I was literally mid-sentence talking with this friend when one of the slabs broke free of the crane and fell. I remember watching it drop absolutely perfectly straight down, right on top of the flatbed truck that was carrying it. It missed the tractor, but the flatbed, was, well, literally as flat as it could possibly be. To this day, I'm still amazed I was in the right place at the right time to witness that. The building in question: BlankIsBeautiful fucked around with this message at 09:42 on Jul 21, 2018 |

Grem posted:Didn't one sink just a year or two ago? Like a year ago, yeah. The things have very little freeboard and tend to sink quickly once they take on water. That makes them dangerous in either collisions (in the opposite way that they are dangerous in traffic collisions!) or any significant waves. So this happens from time to time.
