So this is a bit different than the usual Trump talk, but last night I decided to catch up on Frontline (excellent documentary series produced by PBS) and saw one about the Myanmar rohingya genocide, which I (and probably eveyone else) is really ignorant about. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/myanmars-killing-fields/ All I have to say is, holy gently caress  the poo poo the Myanmar military is doing to the villages is ISIS levels of savagery. It's amazing what this documentary has uncovered, the video, the satellite images, the first person interviews - the know the names of actual commanders committing mass-murder. There are stories, collaborated by surviving eye witness and video of soldiers marching into a village, and slitting the throats of every man and child that they find. Sadly, because no one seems to give a poo poo, nothing will be done about it. The US COULD play a roll in using the United Nations as a platform to pressure the Myanmar government to knock it off, or face sanctions and international isolation again. Of course, we are under the glorious leadership of the Donald J. Trump administration so lol to democracy and accountability anywhere. Also Aung San Suu Kyi is NOT the free-loving democratic leader we thought she was because she is very much apart of this Genocide. There are also a few threads in the Travel subforum where goons were asking about visiting Myanmar, but honestly I would say boycott the country until they, you know, stop committing mass-murder.

I listened to a 30-45 minute podcast on the cleansing going on in Myanmar last year, and it truly is horrific stuff. Soldiers showing up and killing all the kids, throwing babies into bonfires, sometimes raping the adolescent/teen girls, then once everyone's had a turn, killing them on the spot. Survivors tended to escape either by simply fleeing to the jungle immediately, without having time to take any belongings or help family or sometimes playing dead among bodies. In some cases, these massacres had some plausible deniability using paramilitary or troops out of uniform. Other times clearly marked military vehicles and helicopters showed up.

I dont see why venezuela gets brought up. Their economy was basicially pegged to the price of oil, even if they where 100% fygm capitalism, once the price of oil tanks the country would have been hosed regardless.
