Egg is actually pretty good as a pizza topping. Cook the pizza then put scrambled egg on top, only need the egg to be seasoned with a little salt and pepper. Just have to time it right so the egg is done at about the same time as the pizza for peak hot pizza deliciousness.

I would seriously consider the Pokemon XD pizza challenge...but I mean starting off with pineapple? Some things are just a step too far.

LET ME EXPLAIN TO YOU WHY YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING
I think in various XD playthroughs, five of the six Hexagon bro's Shadow Pokemon made it to my endgame team. They're all so good! EXCEPT BALTOY UGH.
Gulpin was my Good Buddy, and I think the moveset I ran with was Shock Wave/Water Pulse/Sludge/Sing. Not super-high damage, but decent coverage, and Swalot is nicely tanky. and using it in XD inspired me to use it in Emerald, where it was also fun.

Part 5: Finally Some Gosh Darn Purify Chamber

Cipher Lab

Welcome back to the Shadow Lab. Let's battle for this item, I'm definitely interested in what's in it now!

Sometimes it's fun to imagine what if certain Pokemon were Shadow, like Feebas. How would that even work? Would we need scents? Happiness? Theory crafting is great.

Eh, I should use PP restoring items more often, but this game is more generous with healing machines, so I kinda don't need to.

Sometimes I don't remember every single Shadow Pokemon we'll encounter, so I'll pause and go... "is this a Shadow Pokemon?"

They weren't.

Since we're not finding DNA Samples, a chunk of this place is completely optional, but that just means I can delay the objective as much as possible!

Hmm, no Shadow Pokemon again.

I can't wait for the AI to be less useless and random, it feels like I'm beating up a small child. I should at least save that for Battle Spot.

I guess we're back on the main path again.

Ooh look, a distraction.

I can't believe this game dangled a Shadow Nincada or Shadow Wailmer in my face and then snatched it away.

I'm forcing myself to include at least one battle screenshot in, cause man are they uninteresting still.

I think so, too. But he sounds quite obstinate and tight-lipped about the whole thing. I've heard LOVRINA's getting incensed over this.

What?! A kid in the lab?! Hold still so we can catch you, kid!

The Wynaut could be a problem, but Pineapple just one shot it.

C'mon, give me a Shadow Corsola.

Woah woah woah, is that an evolved Pokemon? Go easy on me game, sheesh.

Ah it probably doesn't even have STAB, we are still in Gen 3, after all, when Pokemon was poo poo.

Alright we had a Shadow Qwilfish already, so I'm fine with that. This is a good time to get a Great Ball, since we're gonna want it.

Where the hell is this ID Card?

I'll admit, hoping for Shadow Magnemite, but this is also fine.

Carvanha, 225 catch rate (78%, low health, Pokeball), starting moves: Shadow Blitz/Water Pulse, Shadow Hold/Refresh, Scary Face, Bite

Stay out of the water, Carvanha is an unfortunate victim of stats, being a physical Water/Dark type in Gen 3. Yowch. It's not all bad though, you can ignore its amazing Attack stat for a meh 65 SpAtk and use your STAB to do an alright amount of damage, but nothing spectacular. Early Crunch is very nice, but the best Water move you're getting is Water Pulse, which ain't too great. Sure, your SpAtk becomes pretty good when you evolve, but we've gotta use that Attack stat. Thankfully you can, with Earthquake and Double-Edge later down the line, as well as Ice Beam and Slash if you fancy. You're definitely gonna want Protect though, this fish is SUPER fragile and really can't take even a good neutral hit. Team support will be really appreciated, but give it a chance and it'll take a bite outta you. It just gets a lot better shortly after this game.

Also, maybe Shadow Psyduck would've been cool. Ah well.

I'm an RPG protagonist, I invite myself round people's houses.

Hey, remember Chimecho? Too bad it's not a Shadow Pokemon, otherwise I'd use it. Immediately.

That was one hell of a team. Least they've replaced the Pokemon cages, these areas aren't exact copies from the last game, there's a couple of subtle differences here and there.

MASTER GREEVIL's supposedly making a personal tour of all of CIPHER's facilities. I think he wants to confirm that everything is fine so he can proceed with his plans without ending up with a fiasco like last time.

What?! Who are you?! You suspicious intruder!

How long were you there?! You might be just a kid, but we can't let you walk out!

If you're curious, no, Kecleon will not become Shadow type.

Oh hey it's our third team member. It feels so long ago that we got Houndour, but it was only at the start of this facility. Crazy, huh?

Shroomish, 255 catch rate (99%, low health, Pokeball), starting moves: Shadow Blitz/False Swipe, Shadow Mist/Refresh, Mega Drain, Stun Spore

This walking spore scatterer isn't particularly impressive to start with, its stats are meh, the moves it gets from purification are pretty bad, if useful for catching Shadow Pokemon, and it seems like it needs an evolution to save it. Thankfully, Breloom absolutely does that, giving it Fighting STAB and a great Attack stat. Mach Punch is great for picking off weakened foes, while Brick Break will do until Sky Uppercut, as well as deal with pesky screens. Its Grass STAB will languish, but it'll keep it topped up with Giga Drain against those pesky Water types that keep popping up. Aside from that though, there's not much else, since Return and Sludge Bomb are postgame. I guess there's Iron Tail and Body Slam? Eh, fine. Still, you can rely on your Fighting attacks just fine for the most part and, no, it's not worth keeping Shroomish as is until postgame to get Spore. Hell naw.

Don't bother trying. You don't know how scary LOVRINA--she's in charge here--can be. She looks cute and all, but she's nothing short of terrifying. Get out of here while you still can. It's for your own good!

Alright, it sounds like we're nearly done with this place, but there are some scary foes on the horizon that might pose a problem.

If this was the first Great Ball I could've gotten, I would've been very upset.

Before we rescue the Prof, we need a refresh and to get our new team member out. She'll be very useful (no, seriously), as well being the first female team member in Orre, since Colosseum was a sausage fest.

There's also item management, since we get a fair few boosting items from Shadow Pokemon. A 10% boost is meh, but there's nothing else for now, so sure.

A bit harder to use compared to Houndour, but she'll be purified soon enough.

Despite going through this place for the third time, since there weren't exploding scientists in my way, it wasn't too bad.

Please, won't you help us stop this SHADOW POKEMON plan? Join us, and help us save POKEMON!

...PROF. KRANE. I understand what you're trying to say, but I can't help you. Whoa?! You... aren't you that kid I saw at the POKEMON HQ LAB that time?

DAVID? Is it really you, DAVID?!

Are you trying to tell me that you came here by your lonesome to rescue PROF. KRANE? It's too bad, I'm still a member of CIPHER. I can't very well let you folks go now, can I? As for you... you snagged my TEDDIURSA from me that time! I'll give you this. You've got guts to come here alone. But I'll fix you good so you'll never get out again!

Cipher Peon Battle

Since we last saw him, Naps has gotten a bit trickier, but that's mainly cause of my poor lead, and my general frailness of my team. That Rhyhorn is gonna be a problem.

Murkrow is fast and hits hard, while Rhyhorn is slow and hits hard.

So yeah, should probably switch, Shroomish has done more than it needs to.

Thankfully Pineapple pairs with her very nicely, taking the Peck, so that's one down.

Is now really the time for this?

Oh it didn't matter anyway, back out you come Shroomish.

Eyyy, she gets a kill. Thank god Rhyhorn is so loving slow.

Slakoth is not something to worry about because of Truant, so we'll focus on the Beldum. I know, none of these cool Pokemon are Shadow, but we've already snagged one from Naps.

Bit scary, but we manage it.

You can go on about the poor abused POKEMON and all, but you should think about your own selves. That's my advice.

But it's dangerous here. We'd better get out right away. My worst fears turned out to be true of CIPHER. They weren't wiped out. This is just one of their bases. But the details can wait. Things could get complicated if they return. Let's get out of here quick!

Neat, soon a Shiftry can be yours. Okay, now we have our permanent team member of the game, sorry about the misdirection, I just can't help it.

Of course we're not going to get out of here that easily, so we should heal up and get ready.

Cipher Admin

PROF. KRANE is so going to be very busy, oh so very busy! So, please be a nice boy and don't disturb us.

We're going back to the HQ LAB. Stand aside, please.

Going back? Seriously! You are so joking! This so happens to be where you work from now on. After all, we so need you to keep working on your studies. You so are the key to our plan. XD001... the ultimate SHADOW POKEMON that can never be purified!

Stop that nonsense! Do you seriously think I would help you do something that horrible?

Oh... that NAPS! He so must have made a boo-boo again! I so have to punish him lots! Little boy, maybe you can convince PROF. KRANE. You should so tell him to study or XD001. You see, our plan is to make SHADOW POKEMON that can never ever be purified. XD001 is only our first prototype. So, when we work out the problems, we can make combat units with XD-series POKEMON. Wouldn't that be just peachy?

That does sound pretty cool... okay then.

However the Prof ain't a fan of this and loops us endlessly, so we must say no.

Ah she's just a teen, how tough can she be?

Cipher Admin Battle

Shrromish gets her sending out gauge reduction, so time for her to take a back seat, since Pineapple will take this Gust just fine.

whyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Aside from that, Pineapple will have a real easy time with this fight. Lovrina does have an Attract strategy but, uh, she didn't use it. Since it's early game, this battle can be tough depending on how you're building your team.

But her movesets don't exactly scream danger, and all her Pokemon have pretty low stat totals. Like I'll be completely ignoring Luvdisc for now, since it does no damage.

Getting a bit lucky, but hey, Effect Spore is gonna be fun, and Bite is a great move when it flinches.

Roselia is nearly down, so now we can focus on Luvdisc, since it's an easy knockout.

And Shroomish gets another kill. Neat. Now what if we made already fast Pineapple... even faster?

Alright, the star of the show. It's only a threat since it's evolved, but shouldn't be a huge deal otherwise. The main challenge is catching the drat thing, but we'll para it asap.

Oh yeah, Shadow Rush is still in this game. It's a lot less useful than before, since it's now 55BP instead of 90 and no longer has a boosted crit chance, even in Reverse Mode. It's an upgrade from Shadow Blitz, but it's nothing special.

Against regular Pokemon, this Delcatty hurts a lot, but it doesn't do much against opposing Shadow Pokemon, so you should be fine.

Oh yeah, I haven't really been able to show this off. If you have a spare turn catching Shadow Pokemon, it's quick to Call a Pokemon, except now if you Call, a Pokemon gets a +1 accuracy boost, which is pretty neat! You can also use this in battle generally for Hypnosis strategies and the like.

Delcatty, 60 catch rate (50%, low health, paralyzed, Great Ball), starting moves: Shadow Rush/Secret Power, Shadow Wave/Sweet Kiss, Attract, Shock Wave

This classy cat is usually a bit poo poo, right? Well, let's see how it is this time around. Oh, it's still poo poo. Darn. It's a bit of an unfair comparison, but Teddiursa is just the better Normal type, since it starts with Return, already has a higher Attack stat and still has moves to learn. However, despite having a higher SpAtk, Ursaring can't use many special moves, whereas Delcatty can. Too bad Delcatty's SpAtk is low enough that it can't really use any of them. Not like its Attack is any better, so just give it whatever moves you fancy, it won't be doing much with them anyway. I guess you don't have to use the Shock Wave TM? Body Slam will be fine, but there's just not much to say here. It's fuckin Delcatty.

Hey we managed alright, not all of our team fainted!

Cipher Lab

But that's okay. I'll let you owe me this one time. But you have to promise you will think about my plan next time. If you see XD001, I'm sure you will so want to help me. I'll se be waiting for you!

We'll so see you later.

I guess we'll be relying on you even more from now on, DAVID. Now that we know CIPHER is back, we need to move quickly. We have to come up with ways of stopping them. This time, let's really head back to the HQ LAB!

Hmm... this may be something important. We'll take it back and analyze it.

Aw man, they skipped all of the cool desert adventures we had with the Prof. Ah well, that's what the third game is for.

Pokemon HQ Lab

First and foremost, CIPHER hasn't disappeared! The fact that they're still around is alarming. Worse, they are making more SHADOW POKEMON again. And worst of all, they are trying to create the ultimate SHADOW POKEMON--one that is impossible to purify. CIPHER must be plotting world domination using SHADOW POKEMON as their weapons again. To counter CIPHER's new SHADOW POKEMON conspiracy...

Oh! What fantastic timing! It's finally finished! LILY, thank you! Thank you for pulling everyone together so capably in my absence! Okay! Let's not waste any time! Let's all go have a look at the PURIFY CHAMBER.

Let's!

Finally, I can purify these drat Shadow Pokemon. Took long enough.

If evildoers were to create SHADOW POKEMON again, we wanted to be able to save them ourselves. DAVID, your father believed that passionately. To honor your father's wish, I put together our POKEMON HQ LAB. DAVID, if your father were here, I'm sure that he would be delighted. While I was gone, everyone seems to have rallied around LILY and made things happen. Okay, DAVID, we'll have you lead the way. The glorious history of the PURIFY CHAMBER will begin with you!

Okay, we'll stop here, I can just show it and go over it instead of listening to mister no name over there ramble on.

Step onto the circular plate. A holographic image of the POKEMON involved in purification will appear. Well, it would if there were actually some POKEMON on the SETS.

Purify Chamber (Again, mislabelled)

Well this is a bit boring, let's spice it up a bit.

Purify Chamber!

Alright, that's more like it, let's get jamming and purifying! The Purify Chamber is great in that you can purify up to NINE Pokemon at once, so long as you have enough regular Pokemon in it to help purify them. You can put up to four Pokemon into a set and their typing matching against the Pokemon clockwise to them determines how quickly the middle Pokemon gets purified. So it's gonna be pretty slow starting to begin with, but when the ball gets rolling, it REALLY gets rolling and you can purify a lot of Pokemon at once, including the ones you probably have in your party.

This is by far the quickest and easiest way of purifying the many Pokemon in this game and makes all other methods basically obsolete. This is walking on steroids, which explains why the Day Care isn't a method of purifying in this game, since that was walking on steroids, but cost a lot. This is free and can be accessed from any PC to edit as you see fit. Also make sure to press Y to switch the cursor to yellow so you can quickly move Pokemon around, it saves a lot of time. Once you have one Pokemon in a set and a Shadow Pokemon with an empty Heart Gauge, it's purification time!

There we go, as easy as that. This means going to Relic Forest is completely unnecessary since you can purify any Pokemon in your PC or Party. However, you will need to come back to the HQ Lab to purify a Pokemon, so we'll be doing them in batches when I fancy.

I also won't be showing any of that off. There's a lot of Shadow Pokemon in this game and I'll purify them and edit them whenever. It is still a bit of busy work, but it's so much better than the previous game. I won't be using AR codes as well, since it's just easier and the endless walking trick in Agate Village still works just fine.

Oh yeah, Houndour is all ready for battle. Faint Attack is a nice attack, but I prefer Bite, so hopefully we get it soon. It's also time for the nickname!

Hotdog, you say? Usually my thread are full of thirsty buggers, but this time they're also hungry! Nickname by MarquiseMindfang.

Pokemon HQ Lab

Annoyingly, every time you purify a Pokemon, you're kicked back out, so if you still have Pokemon to purify, then you're going right back in. To then purify something and then get kicked out. Oh well.

Now, the issue is how SHADOW POKEMON should be recovered from CIPHER. It looks as if you'll have to get busy some more with the SNAG MACHINE, DAVID.

Good boy

The DIRECTOR came back safely, and the PURIFY CHAMBER was completed. We can finally slow down and catch our breath. After your father passed away, PROF. KRANE and I carried on with his studies. If he were here to see this, I'm sure your father would be happy and proud.

DAVID, could you go upstairs and ask DATAN how he's doing? DATAN is the man in the room next to the DIRECTOR's office. Remember? He was compiling the basic data.

Big brother's tired, so JOVI will go!

Oh, JOVI, it's okay! This is for work!

Anyway, I wonder what's on that DATA ROM.

Oh, JOVI. There's no stopping you. Please, DAVID. Go ask DATAN how he's doing in his office upstairs.

Hmm, good question. Surely he can't've gone far. I swear, if I need to rescue another person from the Cipher Lab...

Oh wait there he-

Uh, cool, good thing we're still here.

That DATA ROM is heavily protected like a bank vault. It would take some seriously talented guy to break through and get at the contents.

Ahaha, it can't be helped. And if it's a seriously talented guy we need, well, I think I may have a solution.

Who would that person be?

DAVID, I'm sorry to spring this on you, but can you deliver the DATA ROM to ONBS in PYRITE TOWN? DATAN, hand the DATA ROM to DAVID, please.

Oh, right away!

The people that later founded ONBS were actually instrumental in breaking CIPHER's conspiracy five years ago. Please deliver that DATA ROM to NETT at ONBS. He's the right-hand man to SECC, ONBS's leader. I'm confident that he will be able to get at the contents of that DATA ROM.

I'm surprised, though. NETT is one of the founders of ONBS, which is now the biggest information network in all the ORRE REGION. It's amazing that our DIRECTOR would know someone like that. His social circle must be huge.

It's quite possible that the DATA ROM contains critical information that CIPHER wants to keep secret. I'm sure that NETT at ONBS can check the contents of that DATA ROM. PYRITE TOWN is past AGATE VILLAGE. It's a little far, but I need you to do this. Take care, though!

Alright, only Ledyba is able to help purify Pokemon right now, since everyone else is gonna be on the team doing stuff. It won't be too long before it'll get some help and we can start the ball rolling. I'll be going over all the Purify Chamber's details in the Side Course.

Next time, we're heading back to a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Should be a ton of fun!

Side Course 03: Everything To Do With Shadow Pokemon (XD)

What, purifying 51 48 Shadow Pokemon wasn't enough for you? You want to purify even more Pokemon? Well, that's what we can do in XD, take a bunch of Pokemon and then make them love us. This system is very similar to how it was in Colosseum, so if you want to know every little detail about it, then you can read it here. Any differences from that Side Course to this one will be mentioned here. Unless I forget about it.

So, firstly, Shadow Pokemon are generated in the same way as before, with it being random when it gets first sent out. Similarly, the Pokemon's OT and ID number will change, however there is now no way for a Shadow Pokemon to be shiny, the game checks against both your and your opponent's numbers and will reroll the Pokemon if it would result in a shiny. Everything else such as IVs, nature, etc, will still be random, but once the Pokemon has been encountered, that info is saved and will not changed if you encounter the Shadow Pokemon again.

The reduction of the Heart Gauge is also the same, so a Shadow Pokemon will not gain experience or EVs or the like until it goes below the fourth gauge. However, since all Shadow Pokemon in this game have a minimum of two Shadow moves, reaching the final bar in the gauge does... nothing, except making Reverse Mode more likely. Everything you couldn't do with Shadow Pokemon in the previous game applies to this game, though Battle Mode is no longer a thing.

One big change that I literally just discovered and I'm pretty sure wasn't on the Bulbapedia page for Shadow Pokemon when I made the previous Side Course, is that all Shadow Pokemon in XD have a 50% boost to their Speed. Interesting, makes them more fun to use I suppose. XD also balances the Shadow type to make it more interesting in battle, as it is now super effective on non-Shadow Pokemon and not very effective on opposing Shadow Pokemon. Note that it only checks that and not the specific typing, so a Shadow move is not 4x effective against a dual typed Pokemon.

Various Shadow moves were added and while Shadow Rush is in, as we saw, it's been reduced in power and no longer has an increased crit chance. Shadow moves can be physical, special or status moves depending on which one they are. Take that Gen 4! The status moves in particular are souped up versions of regular moves and do some crazy effects, usually to both opponents. I go over them when we encounter them for the first time.

Now onto Reverse Mode, it's like Hyper Mode, but poo poo, since there's no real reason to stay in this mode when a Pokemon enters it at the end of their turn (not as their turn for Hyper Mode at least). You immediately take 1/16th damage at the end of the turn and can only use Shadow moves, disobeying similarly to Hyper Mode when told to use other moves. As before, items cannot be used, but Scents can to end Reverse Mode, as well as Calling to it in battle. That's the main function of Reverse Mode, to reduce the Heart Gauge, as it is actively harmful to the Pokemon to stay in that state and does not effect any Shadow moves or stats.

Next is purification, the methods are mostly similar to Colosseum, aside from the big one that makes all other methods practically useless, but we'll talk about that in a moment. Like before, nature affects how effective the action is on the Heart Gauge. Let's go over them and compare them to Colosseum.

As you can see, most numbers were changed in some way, often being overall lower than their Colosseum counterparts. This is due to the lower starting point for Shadow Pokemon of 1500 instead of 3000. This is why Hotdog nearly lost an entire bar when he was Called. It's pretty nuts and it remains low throughout the game, with a very steady curve for most Pokemon up to 7,000, with some going as high as 10,000, the limit, compared to 20,000 for Tyranitar. So it's a lot easier to purify Pokemon this time around, but that's from mostly ignoring this list. The Day Care has been removed, since the Purify Chamber is so much better and more efficient and free, so the ??? row might not be used, but we don't actually know. Love it. Overall, everything is basically the same as before, with endless walking in Agate Village being the easiest and cheapest option in tandem with the Purify Chamber.

So here's the best way to purify nine Pokemon at a time, putting them in different sets with regular Pokemon to quickly reduce the Heart Gauge while you're doing other stuff. When this system gets rolling, it gets rolling, and you're able to just breeze through all the various Shadow Pokemon with a bit of patience. What you need to do is place Pokemon that have types that are super effective against the Pokemon clockwise to them, and continues around the entire circle.

So this image is a bad example, since types that have no effect, are not very effective or neutral don't boost the Flow very much. So figuring out which Pokemon should be placed in which set is the key. With four Pokemon being super effective against each INCLUDING the Shadow Pokemon on one of the Pokemon, the Flow (and thus the Tempo, which changes the music) will be maxed out and the Pokemon will purify very quickly. Shadow Pokemon use their own types instead of the properties of Shadow moves being super effective against every type, just fyi.

This doesn't take dual types into account, so a Pokemon that is Fire has a Grass/Rock type placed next to it, it will count as super effective on the Grass and that's it, you can use either Grass or Rock to be super effective on the next in line and it doesn't have the match with the previous Pokemon, so if the next Pokemon is Normal/Flying, then Rock will be super effective against it, but the Grass typing still counts for the Fire type. There's a lot of room for experimentation and the music is great, so that helps a lot. To give them a reason for being placed in the Purify Chamber, Normal type Pokemon are counted as super effective against themselves, so four Normal or Ghost types will max out the Flow. And that's all there is to it, we can't do much to begin with, but once you get this facility rolling, you'll be purifying lots of Pokemon, which then gives you more options to purify other Shadow Pokemon. It's a much better system than in Colosseum and once you purify, you can then get going and purify more Pokemon to then purify more Pokemon to then... you get the idea.

I used that Delcatty in one of my runs on this game and it sure...it sure was a member of my team. It basically existed to weaken shadow pokemon but I was determined to use it through the whole game, so I did. Again, a testament to how flexible these games are.

And hey now that we've seen Loverina, she's a great example of how much better the models & animations are in this game

Look at those animations! And facial movement. They look nice and she has way more personality, it's great.

Could always change it to Portabella if you want it to sound more feminine, I guess.

this glorious monument

Two things that should be noted.
1) It can't be stated enough that the music is the second best music in the series after Miror B's theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKI3zpqqxd0
2) The pokemon arn't still sprites in the chamber. They animate in such a way to look like they're dancing to the music.

We have our shroom Portobello! I'm not too bothered about masculine names or whatnot, since our female Marowak was mr. skeltal and our female Teddiursa is Roosevelt. I've put the name into the game anyway, so there it is!

Also as much as I like a theme, I also like my variety, so that'll be the last food nickname for this LP, in the same way I stopped the Conquest nicknames for Emerald.

Part 6: Pyrite Its Wrongs

Pyrite Town

Welcome back to the hive. This place looks pretty similar, but there's a lot to do in this place, we'll be spending the entire update here!

It's alright man, we've all been there.

Do you know who I am? I'm CAIL. They call me the gatekeeper of PYRITE! Hehe! That smoldering look says you're raring to challenge me. If it's a battle you want, I'm here! All right, then! I'll show you what being CAIL, the gatekeeper of PYRITE is all about!

I feel like Cail got weaker after 5 years and looks exactly the same, but maybe I'm imagining it.

Swapping a hotdog for a pineapple is a good dieting tip.

I think you need a gate to be effective, honestly.

Fateen

FATEEN, who's considered PYRITE's mother, foretold the appearance of POKEMON in the wild! Well, it came true! It's incredible. We'll now be able to catch wild POKEMON right here in the ORRE REGION.

I am FATEEN. If ever a problem clouds your brow, you shall come to me. MR. DUKING, this town's leader, took my fortune-telling to heart. He searched high and low for the wild POKEMON I had foretold. His search has been rewarded. He appears to have found several locations where wild POKEMON appear.

Pyrite Town

Crazy to hear that Pokemon can be found in a desert.

They know how to keep us busy, what with their brawling and so on. Lots of them will go out of their way to pick a fight with you. Be careful when you're out on the streets.

Huh? Kid, are you... that thing on your arm... it can't be! ...oh, nah, it's nothing. Get lost already.

Guess Team Snagem are still around, though this is the first time we've actually seen them, so I guess they're not doing much. That wasn't Wakin, the guy we fought outside Phenac Stadium, he just has the same model as all standard Team Snagem grunts.

You know what I love about these games? Everyone has a real swaggadon slow walk.

Now don't you lie to me! I know about the likes of you. You're up to no good, aren't you?

Cut us some slack, OFFICER JOHNSON, sir. We had a change of heart. We've sworn off our criminal ways, yes, sir!

No, no, no! That doesn't wash with me, no sir, it doesn't! I won't have you lot walking around the streets as if you owned the place!

Tch! Pompous oaf! FOLLY, the man won't listen to reason. Let's get out of here.

Before we talk to the men of men, let's talk to the big man of Duking.

DUKING, the town leader, discovered a place where wild POKEMON gather. Ever since then, he's been engrossed in searching for wild POKEMON. In the meantime, he left me in charge of the COLOSSEUM. If you want to battle, you should go straight to the COLOSSEUM registration desk and apply.

I never imagined I would be getting a part-time job at this age. Hohoho. But it's a bit too dark and chilly for my old bones to take. Achoo!

Back in those days, they wreaked havoc as if they owned the place. But I caught up with them and put them straight! I cut quite the dashing figure, don't I? It's my job to uphold the peace in PYRITE! Pow!

Ah finally, being able to buy Revives is great for when things can go south. And I guess the X items are useful or something.

So, sonny, how about we have a quick battle? Good, good! We'll work up a good sweat together!

Shroomish is getting closer and closer. Naughty is +Atk -SpDef, which is pretty drat good! It will make its special weaknesses more apparent, but it's better than Lonely!

You're quite a toughie. I'm sure surprised. You should check the DUEL SQUARE up ahead here. You'll be sweating up a storm.

We don't offer a children's rate, but I'm sure you'll find our charge of $100 to be a mere pittance. Will you stay with us tonight? A boy your age travelling all alone... it's quite inspiring. You've earned this rest. ... I hope you've had a good rest. I hope you'll stay at the PYRITE SUPER GRAND HOTEL again the next time.

I love looting places. Sure we could use the PC in the police station, but I'm super lazy, so we'll stay here a couple times.

After all, it's time for Duel Circle, uh, Square.

Trainer Battle

There's no Shadow Pokemon here anymore, so we'll just get some experience, since Shroomish needs it!

I forget that Togepi is fine getting Flying moves since it evolves into a bird.

If you get the urge to battle, come for a visit. We're always waiting!

Since this game has an immensely poo poo level curve, we should be fine. Mostly.

Of course we're able to rematch these guys, but this game is overflowing with experience, so I won't bother with any of that, like I did last game.

Despite the weak moves opponents keep using, they can still get lucky and knock us around.

If anyone demands a battle here in DUEL SQUARE, you shouldn't complain. That's the rule around here.

Still Shadow Bagon eludes me...

Everyone keeps picking on Hotdog while Shroomish is just chilling on the side. It's great.

We'll purify Shroomish in a moment, she's still gaining exp regardless, so it doesn't hugely matter.

Least I don't have to transcribe that, I would have to copy that accented e from somewhere.

Get all the crits out of the way now while they don't matter, I repeat to myself until the end of my life.

And that was Duel Sqaure, wasn't that battling fun? There's still plenty more fights to go in this update.

Pyrite Town

Wahaha! Not to disappoint you, but this isn't a job that anyone can just pick up. Give it another twenty-five years, then come back. Wahaha!

We've reached our destination, though there's still a little bit more of Pyrite to explore. And... is that a vending machine? Hey, Lemonade is pretty good, let's grab some!

...HUH??? What's the best healing item in the series doing here? Moomoo Milk is fantastic, since 100HP is great healing for most of the game and this is the first time it's become easily available so early in a game, it's crazy! Almost too crazy, our team still gets healed by Super Potions, but when the time comes for Moomoo Milk, we will be using them a lot, as Hyper Potions are only really useful in the late endgame or postgame, depending on the level curve.

When CIPHER's hold over the town was broken, the UNDER citizens moved out into the sunlight. I'm one of them, ONBS's NETT is another former resident of THE UNDER. They went and buried THE UNDER to prevent people from getting to the abandoned town site. It's sad to see my hometown go like that.

You can only get to this item box when ROKIT isn't running. I don't get why it's so complicated. Anyway, it's a shame, but The Under, and its surrounding locations, aren't in this game. So no Under Subway, Under Colosseum, or Deep Colosseum. However, to make up for that, when you get near the windmill, or go across the bridge, you can hear the creaking of wood and the wind from the abyss, respectively. As always, the little things are better than full on content. Uh, right?

Unlike the previous game, we can challenge Pyrite Colosseum immediately and get cool cash and TMs! It's definitely worth it, since Colosseum challenges are much easier than before and it'll be a good way to train up Shroomish. We'll be back in a moment.

ONBS

My name is MEGG, and I'm the official guide. Glad to meet you! This SHROOMISH is my friend. Isn't it cute? We broadcast TV signals all across the ORRE REGION. I hope you'll take the time to see how we work.

They really spruced up the old Pyrite Building. Let's have an explore.

Since they're here, the act at the Krabby Club has changed. I think it's the Krabby duo, but I haven't gone over to check, since we'll be back at Gateon Port soon enough.

Started by kids five years ago during the "SHADOW incident", a tiny network has grown into this today. I operate this place with my partner, NETT. We're convinced that reporting the unvarnished truth will be for the good of peace and justice. Anyways, did you want something from me?

Okay, understood. You should take that DATA ROM and show it to NETT right away. I'm sure he can decipher whatever information is stored on that DATA ROM. After fighting against CIPHER five years ago, we decided a free press that reports the truth was necessary to protect the peace and justice of people. That's why NETT and I founded the ONBS. It's not an easy job to report the unvarnished truth in a fair manner. In a way, this is a battle, too.

We can't do everything in this building for now, so these item boxes here and there will tease us for the moment.

Guess where her mommy is? That's right, at the end of the game, this girl is our permanent team member! ...ah just kidding, she's on the floor above.

ONBS News

PROF. KRANE, the abducted head of the POKEMON HQ LAB, has been safely rescued! PROF. KRANE had been held captive in CIPHER's desert research facility, which was widely believed to be abandoned. Reports say that PROF. KRANE was rescued by a lone teen. This incident is evidence that CIPHER has returned after apparently being crushed five years ago. The authorities fear that CIPHER's return could result in more serious incidents. Citizens are urged to be vigilant and cautious.

ONBS

My job is to deliver the news to as many people as possible. When I was starting out, I did experience some close calls. But still, I find this job to be fulfilling.

I'm starting to get sick of this game's poo poo.

KANDEE, sweetheart!

Mommy!

Oh, am I glad to see you! I was worried about you! You seemed to just disappear!

I'm sorry, Mommy! I went out of your room for just a minute, but then I couldn't find it again. That guy brought me here!

Oh, my! How very kind of you! Thank you!

When I was lost, I felt really lonesome, Mommy. I'm so glad we found you, Mommy! Thank you, too!

Sincerely, thank you. This is just a small token of my appreciation.

If you thought your Teddiursa needed an easier time reaching Return, then this is the item for you. It can also be useful later for happiness related stuff.

Man, I wish something big happened to distract everyone and let me get these items. Ah, what a pipe dream.

Weird place for a healing machine. Pyrite Cave has been shut down, so that's another area gone. I won't miss it.

Oh, NETT! This person here says he's come calling from the POKEMON HQ LAB.

Oh, yes, I was expecting him. Please show him through.

Oh, sure thing! I'll let him through! Now, please! NETT's waiting for you inside.

Pleased to meet you. We heard from PROF. KRANE. Sounds like you pulled off a daring rescue.

Yes, BITT, but now's not the time to waste chatting. Let's see the data PROF. KRANE called about. ... I've deciphered something similar to this before. It brings back memories. Okay... I think it's going to take some time for me to check the contents of this DATA ROM. Can you wait while I do that?

Hey, NETT! How's this for an idea? Our news team should be out visiting DUKING at one of his POKE SPOTS to file a story about wild POKEMON. Since he's got free time, why not have him go visit DUKING as well?

Hey, that's good. Good suggestion, BITT. Are you interested in wild POKEMON? It wouldn't hurt to go look, you know. Oh, yes. May I have your P*DA number? I'll contact you as soon as I find anything out. Thank you. I'll try to decipher this as quickly as possible. By the way, BITT. Where is our news team?

Um... I think they said the ROCK POKE SPOT.

The POKE SPOT that DUKING discovered is outside of town and to the east. That's where wild POKEMON have appeared.

We'll be going to our next destination next update. Just a few things we need to do first.

Hehehe, we're okay on that score. I went and snuck a transmitter on the boss. You can tell where he is by checking this RADAR. So, we can always be ready for him when he blows his top.

I have to hand it to you, FOLLY. Way to go!

Huh? TRUDLY, looks like we've got E-MAIL.

Gaah! Is it the boss? Hmm... let's see... "You two come back right now!" it says. Aww, gosh darn it all! It sounds like he's fuming! He might dock us dinner again. We'd better scoot back!

Tch! Well, so much for this RADAR! It's not much use if the boss is going to page us by E-MAIL! Oh man, why do our lives have to be this tragic?!

We'll be back in just a moment, it's purification time!

Pretty meh, but Shroomish is gonna get very good very quickly.

Already she's nearly caught up.

Alright, our team is halfway complete! Hopefully shouldn't be too long until we get our next member. Nickname by ZeButler. This is also our last food nickname, so enjoy this pizza!

So, how goes it? I doubt that I could beat you again, but how about we have a battle for a change? Okay! Let's get this happening!

I know I said we wouldn't rematch any trainers, but this is the only trainer we haven't fought in a double battle, so let's fix that. Then I'm not gonna talk to him for the rest of the LP.

Wow, that was a wake-up call. DAVID, there's nothing fake about your toughness. DAVID, so long as you're around, world peace is assured!

I might forget to show it off every time since no one's bothered to figure out when new moves become available, but there's three new moves to learn, which could be useful.

Alright, to round out this update, it's Colosseum time! Like before, we can enter even with Shadow Pokemon, but this now applies to all Colosseums, so use whatever you want.

The place looks the same, but the new font is nice. Also like before, I won't be covering this place much, since there's not much to it!

Colosseum Battle

We've got 16 trainers to take down, so let's get going! The battle themes for the Colosseum are the same as last game, so this is the only place we'll still find these tracks! What a tune!

Okay, let's get into why Colosseums are easier this time around. Like before, you can still use items and gain exp and all that, but no matter the trainer, they'll always be at the same level, in this case level 20. This means the Colosseum gets easier and easier as you go through them. And also because of this game's weirdly flat level curve, we're about to get horrendously overlevelled for the next chunk of the game! I'll go into why when we breeze past it soon enough, but it does put a damper on the game if you decide to fight every trainer you can (like me).

So since Portobello already starts off stronger than every trainer in this place, we're going to have a really easy time. Ah, what else is new, I'm just too good at these games.

Hey, a nice physical move. Just what I needed.

Even with a boosted SmellingSalt ruining Portobello's day, we clear the first set no problem.

It's very worth doing this, since bam, here's Brick Break for ya. We'll be using this very soon, oh yes we will.

Now if you wanted, there's not any reason to keep going, all the TMs left to get in this place are pretty naff (at least to me), the opponents are weak and it'll stop you getting even more overlevelled so the next part of the game won't be boring. Of course, I've got to show off everything, so let's get even stronger!

We just keep fighting babies, but some interesting things shine through, like an early sun team.

Oh yeah, you might have a harder time depending on your team, but since I've chosen Pokemon that evolve pretty early, you can see why I'm about to have a really easy time.

Oh but there's more.

I'm about to crush this game with my already fully evolved team.

While Taunt is whatever, Portobello has a really good STAB move, so anything weak to Fighting might as well not exist. Hmm, I feel like I said something similar last game...

Colosseum 2nd Round

Oh Breloom is really good since it has sky high Attack? I'm shocked.

Notice how strong we're getting compared to everything else. This is mainly because of double battles. Since we've only got 3 team members, there's not a lot of combinations we can go for, so they're out battling for quite some time and thus get even more experience.

Woah, an evolved Pokemon, that's crazy.

Like Taunt, Torment ain't great, but maybe you'll find a use for it.

More of the same, I would show off what the opponent was doing... but they're not even getting any attacks in.

Like the last trainer, who didn't get to attack once since we knocked out his entire team in one hit. Get used to this.

And then there's Roar. Whoopee. Sure, it can be useful to disrupt opponent's strategies, but there's less of that in this game, so it's not very useful in most situations.

Alright, that's it for Pyrite for now. Next time, we encounter something quite wild.

The worst thing is that the game has a typo here, trčs bien is spelled with an č. I suppose the game doesn't have that character at all. Well, they'd need it for the French localization regardless.
