I like Vlasic “Original” dill pickles better than the regular/kosher ones. I’ve probably said that before. I say it a lot because everyone always thinks I’m nuts. To make matters worse, Walmart is the only place around here that has them and I only really go there if we’re doing a “big” shopping.

Zombie fiction is modern utopian fiction. We have been so beaten down we can no longer imagine a world where surviving isn't hard and precarious. But in a zombie apocalypse, your life is in largely in your hands. You can fight back, you can struggle, and if you die you'll understand why. You don't lose your job because somebody seven states away who has literally one million times more than you wanted to be slightly richer, you die because a fence got pushed over. It's a world no worse than ours, but it's understandable, there's cause and effect, it makes sense. That's the best we can imagine now.

pharmaceutical companies get rich by charging extortionate rates for their products and then force insurance companies to either negotiate their prices or absorb the cost, or, if a person doesn't have insurance, I guess die. there is not a single way the current structure of pharmaceutical cost and distribution actually helps sick people.
