One more hex closer to safety! And hopefully a day wtihout bombings leads to at least some of the float damage being dealt with so it can go a bit faster. how lon before the KB gets in range of Truk to engage the Americans?

One critical thing at Chungking is engineers, because it's only going to be possible if Grey can break down fortification layers quickly. Grey, is there any possibility of sweeping up engineers from across the theater and sending them to Charnel House?

Tameichi Hara (原 為一 Hara Tameichi, October 16, 1900 – October 10, 1980) was an Imperial Japanese naval commander during the Pacific War and the author of the IJN manual on torpedo attack techniques, notable for his skill in torpedo warfare and night fighting. Hara was the only IJN destroyer captain at the start of World War II to survive the entire war and his memoirs serve as an important source for historians.

If Wiki is to be believed IJN had 68 destroyers in December 1941.. Does it mean KM U-boat captain was more likely to survive the war?

I could cite statistics, but suffice it to say that after mid-1943 the USN thoroughly and mercilessly destroyed the IJN wherever and whenever it could with near impunity. If you were a Japanese sailor or airman and you lived through the war, it wasn't for lack of trying on our part.

The IJN also leaned very heavily on their destroyers for operations with any amount of risk, e.g. the Tokyo Express. Heavier ships seemed to sit at Rabaul and Truk for most of the war.

Yeah, anything heavier than a light cruiser spent a large chunk of the war sitting in safe harbors far from the front. Being preserved for the anticipated "decisive battle."

Something of a terminology thing, but Samidare spent some time as one of the ships under Hara's command (as part of Desdiv 27), not as one of his commands. Commands generally refers to the ship they themselves are on (so for Hara that would be Amatsukaze, Shigure, and Yahagi). Or so I understand it.

I was reading up on the imperial family of Japan and found that Hirohito's brothers were various officers. Are they modeled in game? Can you send them off to fight, or does it cost political points if you pull them from the back lines?

Does the risk of sinking decrease as the days go by due to the crew performing emergency repairs?
Since the Yamato will be out of the fight for the rest of the war probably, can you assign the crew to do something useful instead? Like assaulting Chungking?

Again, there is no crew. There's just a captain, alone on his ship, with a few numbers representing the crew part of the ship. They're really just ship stats.

And probably the fires are put out by now so it's just floatation and systems damage which I think, if I recall correctly, have a chance of going up (or down?) every day, so the ship can still spontaneously sink at any point.

The fires should be out so damage shouldn't stack up any higher, and I think it might be possible to pump some of the flooding out to lower the floatation damage but the systems damage is also high so the pumps might not be working. As long as it doesn't get bombed again and doesn't get caught in a storm it could probably limp back, but I still don't give it good odds of remaining unmolested for another 5 days.

Are you able to keep a CAP up over it Grey? And good luck getting it back to port.. So it can be repaired enough to go back to port for the rest of the war! And good luck getting your carriers to Truk - or you not sending them as the USN is likely to be heading out by that time?

Question for people who are good at this game. As the Allies, I've got a bunch of troops in Singapore, but I don't think they will be able to take the city. I've got a few divisions of reinforcements I want to send in, but I'm concerned about the river crossing into Singapore. If the reinforcements cross into the city, they will have to do a shock attack, even if I have some friendly troops there already, right? If so, does the attack get rolled as just the new units attacking (in which case they would be outnumbered by a lot) or will the units already in the hex join the fight (still not ideal, but better than getting the reinforcements slaughtered)?

If you already have troops who have crossed the river into Singapore, you own that hex side. Crossing a river hex side that you own shouldn't trigger any further shock attacks. There's a hotkey that will highlight ownership of hex sides (I think it's W). This is also useful when you're trying to encircle a force and destroy it rather than force retreats.

When a unit does a forced shock attack across a river hex side that you don't own yet, I'm pretty sure only the unit doing the crossing will attack automatically. Of course, because it's WitP's UI, you'll see all of your AV in the hex in the combat report.

Ah, that's a good point, I forgot about hex side ownership. This is good news.

Another technical question: what exactly are the circumstances required to get the benefits from an Amphibious Force HQ (HQm)? I know it doesn't need to unload and can just hang out on AGCs. But for the landing to get benefits from the HQm, is it enough for the HQm to be in the same hex, regardless of planning? Or does the HQm need to be planning for the hex where the landing is occurring? If so, does the level of planning matter? Wondering because I am invading the Marianas right now and it would be great if my HQm could sail around and assist multiple landings without going through the planning process again, or even disembarking.

This chugging along for the Yamato is impressive even without any fires.

5 days more... like when the Allies sailed into Singapore harbor and gave up because of light resistance. We just need that kind of luck.
