For any given fuel type to be viable in all cases, fuel replenishment centers (sorry for the awkward term, need to be generic here) have to be anywhere that might be a midpoint on a trip, not just where people are.

If we want to come close to a primarily EV world, the existence of a gas station shows need for a charging station that could provide equal throughput. (Obs not right away, don't go build a 30 stall charging center on route 66 and come to me when you go broke before demand builds (or construction finishes)).

Given that we're talking about BFN, Nevada, it seems like an ideal place for someone to give Billy Bob's Last Chance Gas a few 50kw solar arrays to put on the roof of his shack so you or the one other car he sees a month can get a few hours extra charge as long as you keep yer eyes off his daughter (which may be an old pickup on blocks out back).

Yes. In fact I've eaten at that Burger King.

The map posted earlier did not have a location marked in Wendover, and instead had one marked in the middle of the state.

A bunch? No. But that's about a 400 mile stretch of major coast-to-coast interstate. Which I drove almost monthly for three years. :sigh:

But you seem to be a pretty strong Tesla partisan, so complain away.

I'm still trying to figure out the part at the beginning between the "here we spin the field windings onto a bobbin, and then sort of loosely drape them onto the stator" and "now here's one we made earlier!" where they're all nicely looped, wrapped, and tightly tucked in.

Yeah I wondered about that too. Dropping a bunch of copper wiring on the floor seems just like the non-deterministic thing that would make a Kuka-bot poo poo itself.

No, it was a point about car noises being artificial. You don’t think GM engineers spent a long time tuning the sound of the Corvette, or Jaguar engineers doing the same with the F-Type? They did, because they wanted to make the cars sound more interesting than they would have otherwise. This is no different. So be snooty and turn your nose up about it if you like. You were never going to buy one but if this is the one factor that you can point to as that reason, more power to you I guess.

As one of the few people who post in this forum who’s actually spent some time driving an I-Pace, all I can do is tell you I actually quite liked the option as an alternative to the serene whoosh (and hefty wind and tire noise) that you get otherwise.

So I've driven the Model 3 for about a month now - put over 3,300 KM on the odometer. About half of the mileage is from my regular commute, and the other half is from longer road trips. I'm completely enamored by this car and how it drives. I kept my FRS for summer driving, but to be honest, I'm taking it out once a week while I do all of the other driving with the Model 3. I was expecting a comfortable and practical daily driver, but this thing just drives and handles so drat well. I just hope it's reliable in the long run. I had planned to replace the FRS with a Cayman GTS or 911 GTS in 5 years, but my experience with an EV has owned so hard and has completely changed my mindset - i'm having increasing difficulty believing I would want to purchase an ICE car again.

I think one of the the coolest thing you discover when driving an EV is the one pedal driving. You get better at it with practice and now I can practically drive my entire commute without touching the brake pedal - the act of braking on an ICE car feels pretty wasteful now. It just blows my mind that I drove 400 km today for $3 in electricity.

:hfive: FR-S to Model 3 buddy. I love my FR-S and didn't trade it in for that reason. But now I am filled with sadness when I sit in it, because the Model 3 has ruined me. I had to renew my registration which required me to get the FR-S emissions checked, and I am amazed at how annoying that is all of the sudden.

TL;DR:
-Tesla Whistleblower is informed that a robot arm had a pin on it that was puncturing battery cells, is shown ~1200 punctured battery cells in a container.

-Whistleblower confirms the punctured cells have been short circuited internally.

-Whistleblower later notices the container is empty and finds out other Tesla employees have been filling the puncture holes with glue, and marking them as good.

-Whistleblower uses the inventory tracking system to find out where the cells ended up. 732 of the punctured cells ended up in Tesla Model 3's that were already on their way to customers.

-Tesla disables the inventory tracking system that allowed Whistleblower to do this.

-Musk goes on twitter and says the Whistleblower sabotaged Tesla operations.

I wouldn't rule out reverse vampires, but holy poo poo does that company not have an internal auditing department? I'm guessing the answer is somewhere between "hell no" and "gently caress no" and probably both. I mean, it's pretty standard for individual technicians and engineers to not understand the the complete process, but there should be a department where you can go and raise your safety concern and they're obligated to investigate. Maybe there's a logical explanation for all of it because the employee never saw the whole picture, but that explanation should be fully documented by the internal audit with findings and recommendations.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by working in a heavily regulated industry and thinking that all companies should have an SMS of some kind.
