Does anyone have any tips for ship combat? I am by no means struggling with shooting pirates down. It's just boring. During combat all I do is stay in place, kill pirate, boost to what they dropped, turn to the next pirate while braking, stay in place, shoot pirate. They suggest to get behind the ships. But I don't think that is necessary yet because the pirates I've encountered are almost non- threatening at best. I'm playing on PS4.

I stay on their tail; same basic method as you, I just execute a U-Turn at the apex of the joust to chase after them. Makes things simple and easy. Rockets to the face as they approach you in the joust also helps the chase-cleanup part.

I agree Combat doesn't have a lot of flavor, though...I'll give the developers several more months to put further icing on this cake, though. At least the crumb finally tastes something resembling right.

Do freighters not follow you through teleports? I thought they did, but I recently did some stuff in the storyline involving using a portal and going somewhere far, far away, and it definitely isn't now. What sucks is that even back where I started, there's a gap across some stars that my freighter can't make but my ship can, is it just doomed to never cross over? Are freighters basically stuck in the region you started in?

You can call your freighter in anywhere like your ship except you can call it at any time even if you don't have the fuel for it

That's really all there is to it. There was a point when I struggled with all of that and the best tip I have is to brake to turn and accelerate to follow them and to tap the weapon button in order to avoid overheating. It's all in all pretty simple and only gets complicated when you're facing more than one opponent.

That's also disappointing to hear.

I'm saying that a lot but I'm still liking the game and I'm glad I tried it but drat.

The space combat is definitely an area where they can improve but I'd imagine it's not currently a pressing issue. For what it is, it works, but there's no real challenge to it in regards of tactics or strategy.

Yeah the only challenge is getting a ship that can survive and does decent damage and that is basically going to probably be your 2nd or 3rd ship tbh. Once you reach that point and get good at midfight shield recharging then it mostly becomes a chore. Eventually I imagine your dmg can go high enough to end it quickly though, so it only really gets easier and more boring as time goes on.

I might be terribly misremembering and looking through rose-tinted glasses here, but Privateer 2: The Darkening's space combat felt pretty satisfying to me and I'd like for Hello Games to take a leaf from that particular tree when it comes to space fights.

Did Phase Beams get changed with a patch? I watched a video and they said that they were the best dogfighting weapon, but it appears that they no longer consume mats, but also do not lock on, which makes them pretty useless to me and my jank rear end controller aiming.

They're pretty good with a mod and an upgrade or two but even vanilla they're handy for blowing the doors off facilities.

I had two cold weather hazard shields installed and it'd only ever drain energy from one of them. After it was depleted, it'd just go straight to draining my suit hazard shield and ignore the second one.

So I spent too much time nanite hunting and am just getting around to building my bases.

Are the individual walls and floors now the equivalent of the cuboid room of old? I'm getting ready to start doing hydroponics and I don't want to build a huge warehouse by hand if I don't have to.

It seems like the freighters still do rooms/corridors like the old way, but I never trusted freighter bases.

Is there some other mechanic to broken ships? I claimed one and had it sitting on my freighter, but one day (and a few warps) later, I noticed it was gone. Are they supposed to go away if you don't fix them, or is this game just broken as poo poo?

The NPC quality varies too much to do away with it though. The difference between a dangerous one and an elite is huge in terms of damage output. They really need to rethink the entire system but probably not any time soon.

Ca you directly pilot or jump your freighter? I know you can jump in your ship and call it to you, but when I’m in my freighter can I go someplace else in space?

Also I have claimed 4-5 ships now, even fixed the engines in one, and none of them, zero, are in my freighter.

Yes if you are in your freighters control room there is a section that will take you to the stellar map where you can select where you want to jump to. note this will take you and all docked friends.

Dangit I found a nice chill planet and I can't build a base on it. They went and destroyed/refunded the old base I had, which was fine by me because it was two things built underwater on a radioactive planet full of hypervigilant sentinels, because the quest just gave you one at whatever planet was nearest, but I guess that's now borked my ability to build a real base? Pity.

I do wish Chromatic Metal wasn't such a vital thing to get in large quantities. I've got a refiner and it's not too hard to find copper deposits but there's still a grind involved.

Is it possible to have multiple bases on the same planet? I know the computer says uploading a base will wipe all other base data for that planet, but what if I just plop a second computer down somewhere? I wanted to do the base cheese for the eggs, but I didn't want to risk vaporizing my actual base on the planet.

No idea. I just reclaimed an old base and the game plopped it down but it didn't remove the grass and pebbles so most of my rooms have crap in them.
