So far I'm still learning new words, but I'm not sure what the limit is. Additionally the game doesn't track Atlas words, at least yet, so I'm not sure of that progress.

I dunno specifically about predatory animals, but the general "kill X amount of animals" quests, they definitely count for those

I'm playing on a PC and they definitelly count as predatory for me. I cleaned out my mission list twice on them so far - no chasing animals about just pop an egg and pick em off till they subside. Check log and repeat as necessary.

I didn't do it for a couple of days though, I hope to hell one of the last few patches didn't change it. I will not be happy.

The only pure ones I've found are the so called "fingers" - I was going to link to an image but I can't find one. They're dark brown, globes joined by thinner bits (kinda half merged) standing upright in groups. Mostly uranium, some gold or other valuable.

Ah heck, I reached the end of the line on the Atlas path and, while completely unsurprising, I now have do the crafting chain from the stupid things each interface gave me for this next step.

It was pretty funny knocking out like the last 6 stations in one go when your ship can travel from one to the other immediately since they’re always only a couple hundred light years away.

Metal Fingers, secondary from stuff on radiation worlds, and mixing phospherous and ferrite dust in a large refinery (it's inefficient, but with a few automated mining units it's easy to have a ton of phospherous).

Ammonia is a similar element that is pretty tough to find so I just end up refining it (or buying it).

I guess I got lucky that my first system on my fresh save has a temperate planet with no crazy storms. No luck so far on my old save though. Hell I haven't even found a Vykreen system on that save yet, and I have been to like 7 or 8 stations.

New fun bug: Storage units that won't let me grab things from them saying I am too full, when I clearly am not full. Only way to grab things is with the X exchange menu in the inventory. Also fun is things being sent to new slots in storage instead of to the already existing stack in storage.

I have noticed in my game that this leads to a dupe bug. If I empty the first slot in the storage unit manually when it says I am full, the first (non installed upgrade) item in my inventory is duplicated into the storage unit's newly vacated storage unit slot. I think the inventory full message is because the dupe bug fails to move an item into the full storage unit.

I had to reload after I swapped out my ship the first time, because I didn't know I had to manually transfer the inventory over first. I guess it makes sense as a system, given that the new ship might have less inventory space available than the old one, but I do wish there was some kind of alert or something so it wasn't so easy to forget.

Made the mistake of going to an affluent Vy'keen system in the search for a good exotic ship. None of the stupid Vy'keen offered me directions to a trading post. I couldn't find one flying around. Every single structure the beacon found was worthless non-trading posts. Half the time the beacon wouldn't even scan and ate several of my navigation data.

After spending a lot of time building my first main base, I ran into a major problem. You can't place storage containers on top of basic component floors. I started to panic, until I thought that I could figure out a way to cheat the system. I was surprised how quickly I figured a way out.

I took a screenshot to show how I pulled it off, in case anyone else can use this idea. They have to float, otherwise they'd be clipping into the floor and cause invalid placement. I think once the building is finished it won't look bad. Or, I embrace it and place lights under them.

Here's what I've got so far. The ugly man-made hill is where I hid the cylindrical rooms housing my specialists. Hopefully I can complete all their quests before I hit 5000 terrain edits and they end up buried alive. The foundation supports changed materials mid-build; I've decided the concrete works better because they look more plain.

Good news: on a random planet I was finally able to summon 3 of my 6 ships. I got them all to an on planet trading post so I can at least get my crap off those other ships. So every time you board your freighter, the room in the back with a Cargo Container and two Atlas Pass v1 tubes get replenished. Good way to pick up lots of incidental species relics and free Warp Cells for very little effort since you visit your Freighter a lot to manage fleet expeditions.

I feel like a couple of people have complained about this but maybe they're just a bit too picky? Like I don't think I've been on a planet that didn't passively harm my hazard shield but whether it's heat/cold/radioactive there are a bunch of them that damage you so slowly they might as well be neutral. I ended up building my home base on a radioactive planet but the decay is so slow it hardly matters when you spend most of your time indoors anyways. Like sure there are planets where their standard condition drains as much as a storm and the storms are even worse but the vaste majority just have a slow timer that might as well not exist with how plentiful sodium is. It feels pointless to find a completely neutral place.

Agreed, but a thing I find so bizarre about superheated storms is that they're not explicitly tied to the planet and it's resources like the other hazards are.

With all the other hazards you've got situations where you can just dig up the elements to recharge the shield effortlessly.
Like on an ice world where you'll regularly get Dioxide from some of the minerals, and usually enough to keep your shield topped off permanently.

That isn't really the case with the strange, superheated storms. They don't really match the biome. Though sodium is always plentiful as an alternative I guess.
But yeah, the amount of planets without any kind of storm are just vanishingly rare, so I guess it's better to just grit your teeth and weather the storms.

Unless you want earth-like for the looks.

But yes, you can base in a lot of places. Among other things, once you get the ability to build storage containers and the teleporter, you really don’t have to interact with your base's planet at all outside of your little 100m circle.

That questline isn't necessarily integral to the plot from what I've seen but it is something that gets you a bunch of blueprints. I ran into that bug myself (and it's a repeatable quest so I had to deal with it every so often) and as far as I can tell the *easy* fix is:

go to anywhere else in the system you have the icon stuck in, just hyperdrive towards a planet or something
summon your freighter (the z menu on pc)
in the same system, either go to a base computer away from your freighter or if you don't have one in that system build a new one on a planet away from your freighter
save and reload, easiest way to do this is jumping in and out of your ship but if it's a legit base you can put a save point
quest should now be pointing at that base computer
if that doesn't work try summoning your freighter to the planet you have your base on and save/reload again
if that doesn't work god have mercy on your soul

enjoy doing this every time the quest comes up lol. It gives you a base related blueprint and after you use it goes on a 1.5 hour time to give you another one, at which point it'll prolly become stuck on your freighter again and you'll have to repeat the above process. It happened to me like 4x in a row but with reloads I could fix it everytime. It just sorta ended up being one straw on the bugged camel's back that made me give up for the moment, game feels so close to being complete but just a smidge too much is at best improperly balanced and at worst flat out broken.

But instead I have to do that by hand, like some kind of savage
