It's a thing you can request when you have over 18 years and the med board puts you on the permanent disability retirement list. (I've been told you can also request 75 vice 50% pension because who's to say you couldn't have done the 30 years if the Navy hadn't hosed you up. So I'm researching that) For important people and specialists it's probably a duty status for the needs of the Navy and at that level no one gives a poo poo about your fitness.

We have a reserve E-5 whose EAOS was 19yr 10mos (early next year). He hurt himself in his civilian job and got put NPQ. They weren't going to let him extend the extra two months to get his 20. His PRD is this month, and we are FIGHTING the detailer to let him extend for the six months he needs to get his 20 and depart. Because he's a Seabee filling a non-seabee rate, their detailers are forcing all seabees back into their community for lack of manpower. We're trying to use logic and common sense to not steal a billet from someone who actually wants to fill one instead of just coming to drill twelve more times and retire.

I have come to discourse on the profound inequities of the American political system.

One of our new COMETs today said some real wise poo poo. I was bitching about all the cigarette butts in the fire pit when he says "Common sense is not a flower grown in every garden".

If we picture the military, state bureacracy, hell any large organization over time as gardens, then those plots are completely loving overgrown with weeds and infested with gophers.

Yeah, I promoted which gave me another year. I'm trying to promote again and then ride my time til the end of 2019.

One of the most integral lessons I wish I could beat into the heads these COMETs is that you can't change the Cs. You can't change the rules you are forced to operate under. Its a waste of time to try to do so. Unless your C1 is physically/sexually abusive, you're probably stuck with him/her. The food will suck, the work will be hard, your crew will probably suck. But this adversity is good for you. It changes you, and it only took a year of it before I learned its value.

The only thing that changes is you. The sooner this lesson is learned, the sooner lovely corpsmembers morph into people that can be taught important life lessons.

lol you have Stockholm syndrome

In this instance changing the situation would be ending your obligation to CCC, not changing an organization that exists to give probationers and parolees a chance to learn skills in an over-structured prison-akin environment.

Also it's pretty hosed up from a labor perspective to mistreat civilian employees to "teach them a lesson" or whatever. Being enthusiastic about lovely situations is an ok coping mechanism but these are state workers who could otherwise be living the cushy unionized state employee life probably and thus able to support families, contribute to the economy, save towards retirement, etc.

So we have an empty office that use to house some chiefs a few years back and now is about to be utilized again. I was switching out the old NMCI assets and tried jacking them in and found out that the two computers on either side of the room were logged into the jacks on opposite sides of the room and that they had run cabling back and forth along the wall. I have no explanation why except they thought 80ft of extra cable amplified the signal. I rerouted them with two 6ft patch cables instead.

Then we got called out for a special job! Put on your civvies or PT gear for the rest of the day yah!!!!

We trimmed up the trees around the volleyball court. Hooyah yard work in 95-100 degree heat at noon. Still beat scrapping paint on a ship I guess. The actual landscaping crew (who only do things specifially in their contract and not a blade of grass more). were taking naps all around us watching and laughing.

At least I got to home early and now I'm playing with Monty.
