I always read about how awful it is to be a gamer in Australia. Horrible internet that is both overpriced and slow, and stupidly inflated prices for video games.

I recently lucked into an apartment with VDSL2 rather than NBN and I'm getting 75mb/s download speeds now, it rules. In a different part of the same city, my brother is lucky if he gets 8. E: Game prices are hosed though, especially digitally unless there's a huge sale like the recent one. Coq au Nandos fucked around with this message at 09:15 on Aug 4, 2018 |

I can't even get Shaw to connect me in my temporary place (I leave in February). It's a 115 year old dilapidated house but right in the middle of town (Kitsilano). Got 175Mbps down in my old north shore condo. I was considering retiring as a gamer when I get there anyway. I only got into gaming because it rains for 9 months out of the year here, and being a soft introvert is having increasing consequences to my health as I approach 40. edit: Coq au Nandos posted:E: Game prices are hosed though, especially digitally unless there's a huge sale like the recent one. It's $90 after tax for games here so not a big jump. UnfortunateSexFart fucked around with this message at 14:35 on Aug 4, 2018 |

EB Games is the most expensive place to buy literally anything and is purely designed to prey on unwitting parents buying games as gifts. first week of release most AAA games can be found for $69A in most stores, super big titles/first party sometimes attract a $10 premium for whatever reason. EB Games is consistently selling new release games for $100A each. ($75USD or thereabouts) but yeah sometimes they will price match other stores and they have a return policy so if you like to speed run games it can work out well I suppose.

Lol no, Australians don't make enough more to pay the extortionate prices a bunch of foreign companies decided to slap on their games on both the retail and production ends.

I'm not saying the Australia Tax on stuff doesn't exist, particularly electronics. But also our prices on basic stuff tend to be higher.

At least Australia’s prices aren’t as bad as New Zealand’s.

Microsoft called it the 360 because marketing was concerned that calling it the 2 would make it sound like it was behind, and 360 starts with a 3, which made it sound like it was on par with PS3. I wonder what route Microsoft will take? Will it just be another well designed powerhouse with x86 architecture?

Probably trying to do streaming because Silicon Valley cannot comprehend anyone having less internet speed than they do

punk rebel ecks posted:I wonder what route Microsoft will take? Will it just be another well designed powerhouse with x86 architecture? Rumor is there will be a weaker console that uses streaming to do actual graphics and then an expensive high fidelity console. Im going to go left fielder and say they release the Xbox Cross which is just a switch but has green trim on it

So basically a Switch that doubles as a cloud streaming console. And another system that is powerful enough to run the cloud games natively. Interesting but I don't think streaming games is that popular.

If they do the streaming thing it would be pretty loving stupid not to go Switch style with it. So they will not go Switch style with it. I think they're going to put out a bigger x86 Xbox and have the streaming thing as a cheap alternative.

Am I wrong in thinking the largest segment of customers who would benefit from a cheap streaming console are also the ones least likely to have high speed internet.
