It exists, but good luck getting small local businesses to use it. The management company I rent from offers credit card payment, but it has a $30 fee. So I mail checks for the cost of a stamp.
I'm in the US as well. My old apartment management did the same thing, credit/debit for some ludicrous "convenience fee" or e-check ACH for free, even if it was drawing from the same exact account. All to dodge like a sixty cent processing fee, it was pathetic. Maybe to prey on those who can't get legit checking accounts and get paid on those scummy ZBA Visas/Mastercards?

My power company here does the same thing, but they're only a little greedy at like $3. But in a city of 315k and and even larger surrounding metro area, that's gotta be like a free $100k+ a month for doing nothing of real value.

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
It's not so much the 60 cent fee, but the fact that credit card transactions can be charged back, and going through the dispute process is a massive pain. Checks and ACH transactions are much harder for the payer to reverse.

Are you saying you didn't host a launch party for Windows 7? Even with instructional videos like this to help you plan it? Come on, the video even was even shot with an inappropriate and distracting (but very trendy, circa-2009) shaky-cam technique! What more do you want?

Some techies were trying to push electronic voting from home in Finland, too, but the recent problems with election interference from some unnamed parties have put that particular discussion to bed for now. You can't forge paper slips as easily as you can break into a badly secured voting system, and we all know that they're gonna have some "unforeseen" security flaws in them. Nordic countries having perfect residential rolls from 17th century onwards of course plays a role, too.

Voting from home is a dumb idea because one of the central tenants of voting is that you are alone and by yourself when you vote so it's impossible for anyone to influence your decision in that moment. Once you take away at-home voting as an idea, switching from paper to electronic voting is 900x more stupid.

Now with less breakage.

E-voting on completely trustworthy, provably correct, unhackable voting hardware and software with a solid audit trail would probably be quite nice. It's also slightly less likely and a bit harder to arrange than lasting world peace, so I don't think it's worth the effort to try.

Yes it is. because they don't even have to throw away a physical thing to do that with electronic voting.

When I vote where I am you get a unmarked ballot, verify it is unmarked with the person that gave it to you, go into the little cardboard booth and mark your vote. Then it folds back up in a specific way and you and you only put it into a locked box that is not to be tampered with or unlocked until all voting has been done. I don't know how places screw up paper voting but there you go.

If it were that easy to futz with paper ballots, the really nice guys would just do that instead of legislate ways to make it harder for certain kinds of people to vote.

One of the oldest election systems in the world -- when Cardinals choose a new Pope -- actually has pretty drat good security, it turns out. The ancient traditions prevent quite a few types of electoral shenanigans.

All voting here in Oregon is vote by mail, and it works really well. Paper voting from home solves so many problems with people trying to block access to voting that even assuming your example happens it still is vastly better than requiring going to an actual polling place.

I do agree that electronic voting is nothing but bad and dumb, though.

Full complement of face and shoulder buttons, two analog pads and access to the same back catalogue as the PSP, this thing should have changed the game, but it came out at the exact same time as the Vita and got zero support from the company.

Every time I see a news article about some upcoming 'gaming phone' I get my hopes up only to have them dashed.
