Would it be possible to organize the running list by promotion? Not the end of the world if not - I just signed up for NJPW's streaming for G1 and it'd be nice to go back and watch the MOTYCs.

I think after this year I need to revamp how this runs pretty heavily. Mostly because of the very good "problem" that the quality of wrestling the last 2-3 years has exploded and the lists are getting really unwieldy under the current system.

Two intensely desperate men trying to prove to themselves they're better than what everyone else thinks they are, striking at each other with extreme intensity, until one is left standing. Okada vs. Omega was a big burst of catharsis, this was just beauty all the way through.

This is why naito lost to zsj: they can both act like badasses, but ZSJ knows what his coolest moves are and is always on the hunt for newer, cooler moves, whereas naito's repertoire is stagnant

Just looking at that G1 list, the amazing thing is that the G1 had 20 competitors, and 19 of them are accounted for on that list.

The odd man out? Tama Tonga.

EDIT: Also, that's 20 MOTYC matches and 24 HM matches in a tournament that contained 91 matches in total. That's 48% of G1 matches that are on those lists.

EDIT 2: Further breakdown:
B Block had 45 matches. Of the 45, there are 17 MOTYCs and 14 HMs. That's 69% of B Block matches on those lists. Of the 14 matches that are not represented, Tama Tonga is in 9 of those, so of non-Tama matches, only 5 of them failed to make either list.

EDIT 3: Since I figured I might as well finish this out, the 5 non-Tama Tonga matches that missed those lists:
Night 8, Goto vs Yano
Night 10, Goto vs Naito
Night 10, Juice vs Yano
Night 14, Juice vs ZSJ
Night 16, Goto vs ZSJ

Looking in the thread, I think all of those except Goto/Yano and Goto/ZSJ got at least 1 HM vote.

The amazing thing is that unlike last year where at this time Wrestler of the Year was pretty much a race between Okada and maybe Omega we have a wide open field this year. Okada's first half is still amazing, Omega has a great year, and with that G1 Tanahashi has to be in the running. Add in what Rush and La Parka is doing for CMLL and Lucha and you a 5 person race and you could maybe throw Walter and PCO as darkhorse candidates

So, I've run the numbers for the G1 nomination, and the rankings for most matches of the years and HMS are as follows:

Kota: MOTY 7 HM 2
Ishii: MOTY 7 HM: 1
Omega: MOTY 4 HM 4
SANADA: MOTY 4 HM 4
ZSJ: MOTY 4 HM 1
NAITO: MOTY 3 HM 4
Yano: MOTY 3 HM 2
Goto: MOTY 2 HM 3
Tanahashi: MOTY 2 HM 3
Weird Kazu: MOTY 2 HM 2
EVIL: MOTY 1 HM 1
Juice: HM 6
Suzuki: HM 3
Page: HM 2
Knife Pervert: HM 1
Fale: HM 1
Sweets Makabe: HM 1
Elgin: HM 1
Tacos: Hm 1

Kota and Ishii are the MVPs of the tournament. Okada, arguably the best overall worker in the company was clearly holding himself back. Juice earned the title of the Good Enough Bout Machine with more HMs than anyone(and that was with a broken hand!). YOSHI-HASHI and Elgin's only HMs were in their match with each other. I was surprised Hangman Page only had 1 HM, I thought he did better than that. And missing from the list is Tama Tonga with not a single HM or MOTY nomination the whole tournament.

Yeah, I missed that one. There might be more mistakes, the list started running together after a while as I was counting. But it still gives an overall impression of how everyone did in the G1.

Edit: Out of curiousity I went and looked at the MOTY list for the whole year, and Kota and Ishii are still tied with a total of 8 MOTY each so far, which if you think about it is an average of 1 per month so far, which is kind of insane if you think about it. Okada is in the lead for the year overall, with 9 MOTY so far.
