If the game is telling me that my home base computer is the one I have to go to for the base archives mission, and puts a red base icon on it, does it matter towards the new permanent base that I'm making?

Building around a shelter in place seemed a good idea but now I kinda feel suffocated. The solution may be to put more coloured lights all over everything. Only one way to find out.

So I'm a bit ambitious with base building and like to get clever with certain things. I discovered that the floor panels you can build individually will automatically flatten out an area quite nicely. So you can use it to "carve" a nice area for a base, or use it to build a base nicely into the terrain. Or so I thought. Turns out, by bug or by design, there are a limited number of these edits you can make in a given save, period. After which panels will simply be built into terrain and stop auto-forming the terrain around them. This limit appears to be permanent. I've tried terraforming the area "back" after removing the panels. I've tried other bases, planets, systems. It seems to be coded into your save. Fortunately, for now at least, the terrain manipulator still works and the "prefab" rooms still carve out the space they need. Unfortunately, I'd only discovered this well into building my base, so now I have an ugly, half-finished section of my base that's kinda ruining the vibe for me. Oh well, honestly wasn't digging what'd I'd done with the panels anyway, might just use what I've learned and start over somewhere else. I feel like prefabs work better with my classic "moon-base/mars colony" aesthetic I had in my head about a space base anyway. td:dr You can use floor panels to nicely carve out flat terrain, but there may be an arbitrary, permanent limit to the number of times you can do so. Edit: Cuboid rooms also stopped carving out space. Viperix fucked around with this message at 23:22 on Aug 13, 2018 |

Seems to me the obvious solution to this would to layer foundations and floor panels over each other until the ground stays flat because all of the terrain is under your foundation.

But definitely wouldn't hurt if you already unlocked everything from your blueprint machine. If you wanted insane bursts of income early on, I would invest in warping to as many systems as possible, collecting as many quests as you can, and doing them all, while scanning everything you can along the way (assuming you managed to grab S class scanner mods.) Combining that with treasure hunting and you can make much more than 1 million in 2 hours. Several times more if you have all three scanner upgrades.

Good to know. I am just at the quest to build my hyperdrive, then it'll be time to look around for better gear, my starting system is pretty damned empty. Is there only ever one spaceport per system, or should I look around harder? Why oh why is there not a system map at least...

Only one per system. Except for the weird dead systems that have the empty station.

It's weird that the v3 pass will open v2 locks, but neither the v2 nor the v3 will work on v1 stuff.

Ammonia is almost always just a secondary item from plants on toxic planets. Your best bet is to find a system that happens to sell it at the station and buy in bulk. Or get enough that you can fluff it up infinitely with enough oxygen. It turns out that the exotic ship with the huge vertical fins clips into the customizable area in your frigate, which may get awkward if it ends up blocking off a hallway you built.

If you have 2 screens, use the windows snipping tool. alt-tab out, hit new snip, select the snip you want, then go to the imgur uploader and hit CTRL+V you don't have to save the pic or anything, just doing the snip saves it into your clipboard, and it can be pasted straight onto imgur's uploader. If you own the game through steam, you can also use steam's screenshot utility

LOL, I found a planet that alternates between freezing cold and boiling storms every few minutes. It’s impossible to see anything because it’s also dusty as hell, and the dust makes the entire planet 10 FPS. If you have a worse planet than this, I’d like to hear about it Oh, and the Po Po Will immediately attack you on sight Steve Yun fucked around with this message at 02:05 on Aug 14, 2018 |

Just curious since I'm not completely done with the blueprint analyzer. Is there a way to put a hole in the ceiling/floor between 2 floors of a building and _not_ have a ladder there? Climbing a ladder is just so much slower than using a jetpack to get up a hole.

Since someone asked earlier, but mentioned it in connection with a bug, can I deconstruct my different terminals (along with their overseer/scientist/mad weapons dude), reconstruct them on a different planet, and not lose the base mission progress? I cannot, for the life of me, find a scorched planet to find solanium for the refiner-unlock from the overseer, and figured I'd just rebuild entirely on a different base before getting serious about refining.
