Ground can be fun but it requires a team that knows what's up, which is pretty rare these days. The Borg ground queues are pretty cool and will make you feel like a goddamn hero if you ever played them prior to the reputation revamp.

Take an echo papa hunter killer drone and complain every 30 seconds about how you can't run with it deployed.

Never stop deploying it.

Compare the performance of your team members to your drone.

The drone lived longer than 3/4 of the team in Miner Instabilities. The guy in Omega armor knew what he was doing at least. People in that costume usually do.

Looks like it's back, but they've made some changes. Hopefully they didn't turn it into a mandatory 15+ minute slog like the mirror event.

The following are some of the bigger changes:

*There is now a 30 second mission briefing time before the queue begins. This allows players time to join the queue and read the briefing if necessary, before taking on the Entity.

*The Entity shards that it deploys are now immune to control effects, this allows the feature more room to breathe as the queue progresses.

*Small Shards will no longer buff the Entity’s damage for the entire queue. Instead, they will give the entity buff stacks towards a more powerful Energy Release after its Absorption Phase.
This change results in a potentially stronger Energy Release attack. In response to that, we’ve added a growing AoE indicator to show the area of the Energy Release and how long it will be before it goes off.

*The Entity Beam attacks no longer apply a Flight Speed debuff to players.
Instead, Large Shards on Advanced Difficulties will apply a Flight Speed debuff if they are able to explode on a player.

*The Entity is now entirely Immune to damage while in its Absorption Phase. We wanted this phase to be about avoiding the Energy Release and preventing the shards from buffing the attack.

*The Entity Absorption Phase is now 15 seconds long rather than 30 seconds. This was the case on Advanced versions of the queue but is now in parity with Normal.

*Once the Entity has been destroyed it will explode into many Small Salvageable Crystal Fragments, these fragments can be destroyed to gain 1-5 Salvage from each of them!

so I have a lovely windows machine that runs this barely, I have a few questions

I recall back in the day something about a keybind that just makes it so you mash the space bar and your spaceship spews everything constantly, otherwise the game was unplayable. I have no idea what anything does anymore and everything costs space bux?

also do any goons even play this, is it a thing that we battle star trek nazis also I have an ancient logitech wingman (?!) joystick, can I make like that scene from insurrection with this game? so many questions I'm sorry friends

The game isn't unplayable without a spacebar macro, but you won't be very effective without it. I think the chat command to set it up is on the wiki.

And while starfleet might be a glorious socialist utopia, STO charges for everything, either with money or grind. But there is some stuff you can get fairly cheap - best bet is probably to ask for advice in the in-game chat.

There's still a handful of goons that play, though it tends to be pretty dead in between content releases.

Actually there's a program you can grab on Sourceforge now that will create macros for you. It can be a bit fiddly when you're getting started, but once you're up and running you can do things like have macro keys for all your attack buffs, all your big cooldown alpha strike buffs, your heals etc.

Just ran the New And Improved CCA!!, the added damage immunity when the Crystal is all CHARGEN MAH LAZER means it takes 1min30 secs to kill instead of the usual 45 secs. 2nd time it did its energy burst thing it 1 shotted over half the people present, myself NOT included because I GTFO'd from the now incredibly obvious damage effect area. Dunno if the people who got nuked were just un-prepared or if the pulse buff they did made it slightly more damaging than its usual wet bee fart level from before  .

People often intentionally face tank the crystal pulse and use whether or not it kills them as an indicator of damage done as opposed to just, you know, looking at the health bar.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a Foundry mission for a Jem’Hadar or Cardassian Captain. The plot may be anything you wish, as long as it is geared toward either or both of these playable races. You’ll have until September 21st to create your mission.

quote:

The challenge will run for 8 weeks total, 5 to build the missions and 3 for the community to play and vote. If there is any unscheduled lengthy downtime during the challenge, the deadlines will be extended by the appropriate time.
There are no right or wrong stories to tell, as long as the mission is geared toward Jem’Hadar or Cardassian player characters..
Missions should take 30-45 minutes for a player to complete, in order to make sure players can play through all the missions in a reasonable amount of time.
Once the mission is published, it should not be withdrawn, even temporarily. The only exception to this would be if for some reason players are saying they can't complete it and you need to fix something so they can. If you find spelling mistakes, feel free to fix them only after the competition ends. In general, we want all the voters to be considering the same version of your mission.
Voting: when the 5-week build period ends, a voting thread will be posted with the information on all submitted missions. When you have played through the missions and selected your favorite, send a forum PM, in-game mail or Twitter DM to @drogyn1701. This will serve as your official vote. Limit 1 vote per person.
In the event of a tie, @duncanidaho11’s cat has been chosen as the impartial tie-breaking judge.
You may leave a review on each mission you play if you wish, but it is not required.

I think the Bijor mission series is a perfect fit!

They want the missions to "take 30-45 minutes", so maybe you should turn them into repetitive epics?

Then you actually have a decent amount of acceptable-to-good content ahead of you, spiced with some truly awful grinds. Most of these grinds are not necessary for you to progress and consume content, save for some of the delta rising garbage. You can now play a Romulan, which was Cryptic’s attempt at an actual story for your character. If you remember how crappy the original fed intro was, make a new character to experience the new one, it’s better and it makes fun of the old one in places. Klingons now actually have an intro. I wouldn’t make your Jim until you’ve played through to the current content on another character first. TOS federation is another viable start, but do it after the regular fed start and decide where you want to go from there; they are identical after their intro series. Skills are now completely different than before and also completely better. Your traits are now configurable on the fly. Efficient barely matters anymore so use whatever boffs you want, except if you’re romulan. Romulans get +crit chance and cloak buffs. There is a new currency called dilithium, you get it from doing everything but can only refine 8k per day.

There is more, but that should be the gist of it if you last played in season 5-ish.

Mondian
Apr 24, 2007

Yeah nearly every system has changed so just look at the wiki for a skill spec or whatever. I would recommend doing the TOS intro I thought that was charming, but you should probably just make some sort of romulan to take to endgame

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Honestly at this point I think every system had changed or added wholesale since F2P, up to and including the rendering engine. It's basically an entirely different game. And for all the bitching that goes on, the core leveling experience is actually pretty fun and the endgame is fairly relaxing and casual as long as you don't go and try to mega-grind.

I definitely suggest making a new character (of whatever faction really) and experiencing it from the start though, at least until you're re-acclimated with the gameplay.

Fedrom is really the master race these days - they get a solid story, access to the best bridge officers in the game and, in a recent change, access to every Federation ship in the game except for the ones that come from lockboxes. If you have any unlocked purchases on your account, you can fly it and more importantly use it for admiralty.

TOS is good but Fedrom is so much better it's not funny.
