Yeah Remembrance Day is solemn as gently caress here. Change of the guard, gun salute, minute of silence, wreath, aircraft salute pass, the whole shebang. So many poppies.

It is not in any way a day to scam free food. I never got the impression it was a way to honour veterans so much as it is meant to honour dead people.

I hope to not get chewed out for this, since I never served, but I always thought that is how war memorials should be. A remembrance to the fallen in a war. To how tragic it is/was that we even had to fight one.

As an American it weirds me out to no end how much we jerk off to the military but then not really give a single gently caress about veterans benefits, or the dead. Hell I can’t even go to a baseball game anymore without being subjected to what feels like 30mins of sucking off to our military-industrial complex.

It’s why I prefer memorials. I remember being haunted by the WWII memorial in Normandy. Heck the one in DC is really tasteful too. I’ve never made it to Verdun, but I heard the memorial there is chilling.

That is an excellent series. It still boggles my mind that during the Battle of the Frontiers the French Army lost 20,000 men dead in one day. Not wounded, missing, etc but straight up dead. And that was the first loving month.

Personal interview with Musk to the Times.
Summary is that it's a 800 word piece that basically says "Feel bad for me, I really deserve it" :qqsay:

This would be strategy #1 were I a lawyer trying to establish a case that Musk wasn't aware of what he was doing during the long, drawn out period between the short seller comment, to the earnings call snap, to the tweet storms.

I will come to a time in my backwards trip when November eleventh, accidentally my birthday, was a sacred day called Armistice Day. When I was a boy, all the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one and another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind.

Armistice Day has become Veterans’ Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans’ day is not.

So I will throw Veterans’ Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don’t want to throw away any sacred things.
