Souma is not a romantic character. He isn't interested in Erina romantically. He is focusing 100% on the win over her sense of taste aspect of this challenge where as the other guy wants to actually marry Erina. Its that kind of 2 characters doing the same thing for different reasons gag that will probably only work because all the supporting female characters understand romance manga tropes and won't realize/keep misunderstanding Souma's pov. Like prepare for 100 misunderstanding gags. I think it would be more likely that Souma & erina would open a restaurant together than get married by the end of this arc, for example.

I know I shouldn't expect any better from a WSJ series aimed at young people but I'm extremely bored at this ~nail-biting cliffhanger~ which is going to have Soma (as the person who went first) lose, have to give up his knife and go on a lesson of self discovery. If I had to guess, they're probably to shoehorn the "having someone to cook for" message that Saiba was bringing up by making Souma and Erina work together to try and beat Teacherboy and have that be the reasoning which Soma wins the rematch, because he's not cooking for himself, he's cooking for Erina!!  Optional fields to put on your bingo card: Erina somehow ending up in a shokugeki-enforced engagement References to Hisako's shoujo books and them having a "two boys fighting over the heroine" plot(s) Soma only meaning "cooking for Erina" as a platonic thing that befuddles everyone else to keep the harem alive The appearance of Soma's mother (or someone that knew her who can be a vehicle for flashbacks) to hammer home the message

I have two thoughts on the whole chapter: 1. If Erina kicks Asahi in the face immediately in the next chapter I’ll forgive all of this 2. This is atrocious and I apologize but if the thread title could get renamed Kiss the Cuck it would be  E: not that anyone ever barbecues in this manga
