Not to mention that being genetically predisposed to hypertension and high cholesterol means you will almost definitely get those things, diet and lifestyle changes will just stave them off for a while.

The number of conditions with occurence rates in the 1-5% range that require lifetime medication (epilepsy, asthma, eczema, thyroid problems, diabetes, arthritis) is quite high.
