comedyblissoption posted:Workers in a capitalist enterprise take on enormous risk regularly. Any time someone signs up for a 30 year mortgage near their workplace that's an enormous risk dependent on their conditions of employment and the relationship of the employers w/ the community. Maybe the employer decides to unilaterally move the factory to a third world country and it fucks up the entire community. Or the employer just lays them off during a recession or fires them in unjust ways while denying unemployment compensation. Maybe the employer does stupid poo poo like make their tesla factory floor look like an apple store so the rate of personal injuries are much higher. Such situations are large risks to any employee. Ever meet someone so broke that investing in a monthly bus pass rather than paying the higher per trip cash fare was a risk that would put them on the street if they didn't manage to get enough hours from the two part time jobs they were juggling? I have. gently caress capitalism.

Like it's incredibly obvious from this post that are you are doing okay financially and have probably not been at any major risk in recent times of being evicted, having essential utilities disconnected or scrambling to get change for some canned chicken to add to your tomato soup that night. It honestly makes me wonder if I too would have this mindset had I been born into wealth and I'm not sure I wanna think about it too much

Why would he lie about such a thing? The thesis that all poor people are only poor because they're lazy is rock-solid, as evidenced by the fact that billionaires are the hardest working people in America. Did you know that Elon Musk sleeps inside his factory? And assembles the cars by hand? That's why the bumpers fall off and the doors are different colors, because he's so just so tired and miserable. The Ambien and acid don't help much, either.

Oddly enough, employees in the federal government get paid more like a socialist system than a capitalist one. Under normal circumstances, the average employee earns around 50-60K. For non-specialized managers/directors (people who aren't surgeons and the like) usually earn around 120K. Then again, you have the same issue where contractors are siphoning off millions is crap deals and probably giving their senator friend a kickback.

I wonder how much correlation / causation is there, like I remember that one study that found that rich people have less empathy but concluded it was likely due to the wealth isolating them socially and physically from other people so their sense of empathy kinda atrophied, rather than them being people with low empathy to begin with.
